Book Nitrification and Denitrification in the Activated Sludge Process

Download or read book Nitrification and Denitrification in the Activated Sludge Process written by Michael H. Gerardi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nitrification and Denitrification in the Activated Sludge Process, the first in a series on the microbiology of wastewater treatment, comprises the critical topics of cost-effective operation, permit compliance, process control, and troubleshooting in wastewater treatment plants. Avoiding the technical jargon, chemical equations, and kinetics that typically accompany such texts, Nitrification and Denitrification in the Activated Sludge Process directly addresses plant operators and technicians, providing necessary information for understanding the microbiology and biological conditions that occur in the treatment process. Of special interest to wastewater treatment plant operators are the bacteria that degrade nitrogenous wastes–the nitrifying bacteria–and the bacteria that degrade carbonaceous wastes–the cBOD-removing bacteria. Both groups of bacteria need to be routinely monitored and operational conditions favorably adjusted to ensure desired nitrification. Each chapter in this groundbreaking study offers a better understanding of the importance of nitrification and denitrification and the bacteria involved in these crucial processes. Chapters include: Organotrophs The Wastewater Nitrogen Cycle Nitrite Ion Accumulation Dissolved Oxygen Denitrifying Bacteria Gaseous End Products Free Molecular Oxygen The Occurrence of Denitrification

Book Design and Operation of Activated Sludge Processes Using Respirometry

Download or read book Design and Operation of Activated Sludge Processes Using Respirometry written by Alan Rozich and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1992-02-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a thorough overview of respirometry and its scientific and engineering basis. The book describes the fundamentals of biological waste treatment, development of predictive models for system design and operation, and how respirometry fits in with these operations. It also presents case studies, which give you concrete examples of the application of respirometry. This book will help activated sludge process control designers, operators, and managers of biological wastewater treatment facilitieslearn how to improve methods for the analysis of biological wastewater systems, enhance design and treatability projects, optimize and troubleshoot plant operations, and accurately predict the impact of new loads or streams on biological wastewater facilities.

Book Continued Evaluation of Oxygen Use in Conventional Activated Sludge Processing

Download or read book Continued Evaluation of Oxygen Use in Conventional Activated Sludge Processing written by Union Carbide Corporation. Linde Division and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A process (called UNOX) for treating municipal wastewater using high-purity oxygen in the activated sludge process was further evaluated at Batavia, New York in a full scale wastewater treatment plant. The present evaluation places emphasis on the production rate, filtration, and digestion characteristics of oxygenated waste activated sludge. Operation was conducted at two different system loadings over a period of three months. The filtering characteristics of waste activated sludge from an oxygenation system were investigated. Waste activated sludge was aerobically digested in 800-gallon batches using high-purity oxygen. The economics of oxygenation systems as compared with conventional diffused air aeration systems were revised from the cost estimates presented in initial work.
