Book Oxygen Disorder Effects in High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Oxygen Disorder Effects in High Tc Superconductors written by Ivan K. Schuller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this book represent the proceedings for the International Conference on Oxygen Disorder Effects in High~Tc Superconductors, held April 18-21, 1989 at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. It was recognized very early in the field of ceramic superconductors that oxygen plays a crucial role as far as the physical properties of these ma terials are concerned. The preparation requires special heating and cooling cycles which allow proper uptake of oxygen, relationships were found between the oxygen concentration and the superconducting transition temperature in many of the compounds and quite recently it was recognized that many (if not all) of the compounds present oxygen ordering in the intercalating planes. Moreover, it seems that the presence of superconductivity is strongly correlated with the presence of orthorhombic phases although several groups have also claimed the presence of superconductivity in tetragonal phases. Whether oxygen ordering plays or not a crucial role for the superconductivity remains to be seen. However it is clear that the ordering of oxygens and their thermodynamic properties is an interesting subject on its own right. All these reasons led us to organize a Conference on Oxygen Disorder Effects in High-Tc Superconductors in attempt to identify unsolved problems and to have an open discussion of the presently known facts.

Book Lattice Effects In High Tc Superconductors Proceedings Of The Conference

Download or read book Lattice Effects In High Tc Superconductors Proceedings Of The Conference written by T Egami and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-12-21 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The focus of the workshop is the role of crystal lattices, i.e. atomic structure, phonons, lattice distortions, in the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity in oxides. In spite of the intense research effort during the last five years the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity still remains unknown. While earlier theories forcused primarily on the role of magnetic interaction, recent experimental results strongly suggest that anharmonic local atomic displacements, in particular those induced by charge carriers, are critically involved in creating high temperature superconductivity. In this workshop, experimentalists and theoreticians address this issue with the hope of stimulating real progress in this area.

Book Studies of High Temperature Superconductors

Download or read book Studies of High Temperature Superconductors written by A. V. Narlikar and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 1993 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six papers by physicists from the Japan, India, Brazil and the US address some of the broad frontal issues of superconductivity, which include the mechanisms of high-temperature superconductivity, extra-high-temperature phenomena, the normal state pseudogap, the observations of the isotope effect in a host of different superconducting systems and their explanations, and the unusual features of strongly correlated electron systems like heavy fermions. Two extended papers explore the importance of positron annihilation and using electron spin resonance techniques to study superconducting materials. The treatments should be accessible to working scientists and engineers and to graduate students of physics, chemistry, materials science, solid-state electronics, and other disciplines.

Book High Temperature Superconductivity

Download or read book High Temperature Superconductivity written by Jeffrey W. Lynn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1990-03-01 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most exciting developments in modern physics has been the discovery of the new class of oxide materials with high superconducting transition temperature. Systems with Tc well above liquid nitrogen temperature are already a reality and higher Tc's are anticipated. Indeed, the idea of a room-temperature superconductor, which just a short time ago was considered science fiction, appears to be a distinctly possible outcome of materials research. To address the need to train students and scientists for research in this exciting field, Jeffrey W. Lynn and colleagues at the University of Maryland, College Park, as well as other superconductivity experts from around the U.S., taught a graduate-level course in the fall of 1987, from which the chapters in this book were drawn. Subjects included are: Survey of superconductivity (J. Lynn).- The theory of type-II superconductivity (D. Belitz).- The Josephson effect (P. Ferrell).- Crystallography (A. Santoro).- Electronic structure (C.P. Wang).- Magnetic properties and interactions (J. Lynn).- Synthesis and diamagnetic properties (R. Shelton).- Electron pairing (P. Allen).- Superconducting devices (F. Bedard).- Superconducting properties (J. Crow, N.-P. Ong).

Book Electron Phonon Interaction and Lattice Dynamics in High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Electron Phonon Interaction and Lattice Dynamics in High Tc Superconductors written by Zhang Han and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanism of the high-temperature superconductors has been a very important topic in condensed matter physics. Researchers have been trying to explain the role of electronphonon interaction (EPI) in cuprates. Some important properties of the cuprates could not be explained by conventional BCS theory. This book contains the experimental and theoretical studies on the EPI. The experimental part covers the results of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), isotopic effect, elastic neutron scattering study of electronphonon, lattice role and so on. The theoretical part covers the electronphonon, polaron and bipolaron, effect of lattice, fine structure in the tunnelling spectra of electron-doped cuprates, identification of the bulk pairing symmetry in high-temperature superconductors and effect of lattice. Students and researchers interested in high-temperature superconductors, especially the EPI in cuprates will find this title very useful.

Book Physics and Materials Science of High Temperature Superconductors IV

Download or read book Physics and Materials Science of High Temperature Superconductors IV written by R. Kossowsky and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five questions dominated the ARW on Physics and Materials Science of High Temperature Superconductors, of which this book forms the permanent record. Briefly, these are: (i) How close are we to a unified theory? The consensus is that we are not. (ii) Flux pinning: can it be achieved in bulk materials? Still an open question. The following three questions are related. (iii) Can grain boundary contributions be brought under control? (iv) What is the real requirement for purity and general chemistry control? (v)What is the practical outlook for bulk products - tapes and wires? One of the conclusions is that the geometry and dimensions in thin films are the key parameters that facilitate the realization of high current densities and, consequently, their commercial application. On the other hand, the very large number of poorly understood microstructural, chemical and mechanical variables involved in the preparation of bulk materials are currently prohibiting large scale commercialization of wires and tapes.

Book Physical Properties of High Temperature Superconductors IV

Download or read book Physical Properties of High Temperature Superconductors IV written by Donald M. Ginsberg and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains two chapters of direct interest for applications: The magnetic vortex states and transformations and the effects of c-axis coupling on the transport properties. In addition, the isotope effect is reviewed, since reliable data on ultra-pure samples are now available. The lattice vibrations (phonons) have been explored extensively by inelastic neutron scattering and infrared absorption and these types of data are reviewed as well. The interesting properties of the superconducting doped fullerenes are described; some of their most fundamental properties are shared by the superconducting cuprates. This book with its subject index, like the earlier three volumes in this series, will be found useful both by people entering the field and by workers who are already active in it.

Book Specific Heat Jump in High Tc Superconductors

Download or read book Specific Heat Jump in High Tc Superconductors written by P. W. O. Nyawere and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Superconductivity of high-Tc cuprates and their transition temperature is strongly dependent on the content and ordering of oxygen deficiencies. It is not clear how pairing of oxygen atoms occur in these structures, but it is believed that the existence of several equivalent positions of oxygen atoms causes a strong anharmonic perturbation. In this work we seek to confirm that BCS theory is insufficient in explaining the electron-electron pairing in high-Tc superconductors and that the type of pairing is exotic as has been reported in (18). The nature of characteristic curves are similar confirming that this exotic pairing applies to all materials which have high-Tc. The transition is smooth and not abrupt jump as is known in normal superconductors. We report various values of specific heat jump and various ratios between normal state and superconducting states. These values are close to the experimental values so far reported though in some few cases their are divergence from the expected values. These values can be used to explain the thermodynamic characteristics of high-Tc superconductors.
