The organizational structure and text are fully integrated to reflect current developments, including codification of the economic substance doctrine; impact of corporate tax shelters and application of substance-over-form doctrine; increased importance of passthrough tax principles; comparable treatment of dividends and long-term capital gain; recent changes affecting acquisitive and divisive reorganizations; and policy implications of current corporate tax reform options

Book Housing and Social Change in Europe and the USA

Download or read book Housing and Social Change in Europe and the USA written by Ball Michael and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-28 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988. This book argues that there is a growing structural crisis in the provision of housing in advanced capitalist countries and that the steady improvement in housing conditions since 1945 is unlikely to continue. The dilemmas facing housing policy makers can no longer be seen as concerned just with distributional questions but with problems generated by the restructuring of key elements of housing provision, including private housing finance and the housebuilding industry. It looks at housing markets, housing policies and specific institutions connected with housing provision in many advanced capitalist countries, including Britain, the USA, France, West Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark. It considers the different sectors and the changes taking place there, using case study material where appropriate to support its varied and convincing arguments.

Book Baseball s Power Shift

Download or read book Baseball s Power Shift written by Krister Swanson and published by U of Nebraska Press. This book was released on 2016-03 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Major League Baseball's inception in the 1880s through World War II, team owners enjoyed monopolistic control of the industry. Despite the players' desire to form a viable union, every attempt to do so failed. The labor consciousness of baseball players lagged behind that of workers in other industries, and the public was largely in the dark about labor practices in baseball. In the mid-1960s, star players Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale staged a joint holdout for multiyear contracts and much higher salaries. Their holdout quickly drew support from the public; for the first time, owners realized they could ill afford to alienate fans, their primary source of revenue. Baseball's Power Shift chronicles the growth and development of the union movement in Major League Baseball and the key role of the press and public opinion in the players' successes and failures in labor-management relations. Swanson focuses on the most turbulent years, 1966 to 1981, which saw the birth of the Major League Baseball Players Association as well as three strikes, two lockouts, Curt Flood's challenge to the reserve clause in the Supreme Court, and the emergence of full free agency. To defeat the owners, the players' union needed support from the press, and perhaps more importantly, the public. With the public on their side, the players ushered in a new era in professional sports when salaries skyrocketed and fans began to care as much about the business dealings of their favorite team as they do about wins and losses. Swanson shows how fans and the media became key players in baseball's labor wars and paved the way for the explosive growth in the American sports economy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Use BIM to develop strategies, expedite projects, improve outcomes, and save money. BIM is far more than an "upgrade" to the latest CAD software. It is a process improvement tool that leverages data to analyze and predict outcomes throughout the different phases of the building life cycle. The time for a building owner to get involved with the BIM process is not at the end of the building project but from the very beginning. BIM for Building Owners and Developers is the only guide that will help you, the owner and client, use BIM to increase transparency and create a more integrated design and construction process, which will result in better quality buildings at lower cost and in a shorter time frame. It will also help you understand what BIM can do for you and what you can expect in terms of process and commitments. You'll discover how BIM can help improve your strategic planning, maximize ROI, support the decision-making processes, and fine-tune GAP analysis. In addition, BIM for Building Owners and Developers can help you: Understand, manage, and take advantage of the BIM paradigm shift Assemble a building as it would be constructed on site to help eliminate many inefficiencies of the construction process Achieve a high level of coordination through better integration of information and process optimization Reduce the overall cost of a project by identifying problems while they still can be corrected inexpensively Make every project easier, faster, and more profitable with BIM for Building Owners and Developers.
