Book Overproduction and Crises

Download or read book Overproduction and Crises written by Karl Rodbertus and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Overproduction and Crises The modern world regards business crises much as the ancient Egyptians regarded the overflowings of the Nile. The phenomenon recurs at intervals; it is of great importance to everyone, and natural causes of it are not in sight. An economist may make a formula that tells, to his own satisfaction, why a convulsion in business takes place about once in a decade; but if the statement is at all complete, it will hardly be understood by the public. It will necessarily be intricate. The phenomenon is complex, and a statement that accurately accounts for it must be so. The most available reasons that can be assigned for business crises are vaguely expressed in single terms, such as "overproduction," "inflation," "speculation," and "liquidation." Book Marx s Theory of Crisis

Download or read book Marx s Theory of Crisis written by Simon Clarke and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-27 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of crisis has always played a central role within Marxism, and yet has been one of its weakest elements. Simon Clarke's important new book provides the first systematic account of Marx's own writings on crisis, examining the theory within the context of Marx's critique of political economy and of the dynamics of capitalism. The book concentrates on the scientific interpretation and evaluation of the theory of crisis, and will be of interest to mainstream economists, as well as to sociologists, political scientists and students of Marx and Marxism.

Book The Age of Oversupply

Download or read book The Age of Oversupply written by Daniel Alpert and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Governments and central banks across the developed world have tried every policy tool imaginable, yet our economies remain sluggish or worse. How did we get here, and how can we compete and prosper once more? Daniel Alpert argues that a global labor glut, excess productive capacity, and a rising ocean of cheap capital have kept the Western economies mired in underemployment and anemic growth. We failed to anticipate the impact of the torrent of labor and capital unleashed by formerly socialist economies. Many policymakers miss the connection between global oversupply and the lack of domestic investment and growth. But Alpert shows how they are intertwined and offers a bold, fresh approach to fixing our economic woes. Twitter: @DanielAlpert

Book A People s Guide to Capitalism

Download or read book A People s Guide to Capitalism written by Hadas Thier and published by Haymarket Books. This book was released on 2018-06-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lively, accessible, and timely guide to Marxist economics for those who want to understand and dismantle the world of the 1%. Economists regularly promote Capitalism as the greatest system ever to grace the planet. With the same breath, they implore us to leave the job of understanding the magical powers of the market to the “experts.” Despite the efforts of these mainstream commentators to convince us otherwise, many of us have begun to question why this system has produced such vast inequality and wanton disregard for its own environmental destruction. This book offers answers to exactly these questions on their own terms: in the form of a radical economic theory. “Thier’s urgently needed book strips away jargon to make Marx’s essential work accessible to today’s diverse mass movements.” —Sarah Leonard, contributing editor to The Nation “A great book for proletarian chain-breaking.” —Rob Larson, author of Bit Tyrants: The Political Economy of Silicon Valley “Thier unpacks the mystery of capitalist inequality with lucid and accessible prose . . . . We will need books like A People’s Guide to help us make sense of the root causes of the financial crises that shape so many of our struggles today.” —Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, author of Race for Profit: How Banks and the Real Estate Industry Undermined Black Homeownership “Ranging from exploitation at work to the operations of modern finance, this book takes the reader through a fine-tuned introduction to Marx’s analysis of the modern economy . . . . Thier combines theoretical explanation with contemporary examples to illuminate the inner workings of capitalism . . . . Reminds us of the urgent need for alternatives to a crisis-ridden system.” —David McNally, author of Blood and Money
