Book Output Model Following Control Synthesis for an Oblique Wing Aircraft

Download or read book Output Model Following Control Synthesis for an Oblique Wing Aircraft written by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-07-09 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent interest in oblique-wing aircraft has focused on the potential aerodynamic performance advantage of a variable-skew oblique wing over a conventional or symmetric sweep wing. Unfortunately, the resulting asymmetric configuration has significant aerodynamic and inertial cross-coupling between the aircraft longitudinal and lateral-directional axes. Presented here is a decoupling control law synthesis technique that integrates stability augmentation, decoupling, and the direct incorporation of desired handling qualities into an output feedback controller. The proposed design technique uses linear quadratic regulator concepts in the framework of explicit model following. The output feedback strategy used is a suboptimal projection from the state space to the output space. Dynamics are then introduced into the controller to improve steady-state performance and increase system robustness. Closed-loop performance is shown by application of the control laws to the linearized equations of motion and nonlinear simulation of an oblique-wing aircraft. Pahle, Joseph W. Book Optimal Model Following Techniques Applied to the Lateral Directional Axes of a Fighter Aircraft

Download or read book Optimal Model Following Techniques Applied to the Lateral Directional Axes of a Fighter Aircraft written by Kenneth Wayne Bassett and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A lateral-directional controller was designed for the F-4C/D aircraft utilizing two optimal model following techniques. The 'model in the performance index' method incorporates a model of the desired lateral dynamics into the performance index and minimizes the error between the model and system state derivatives. The 'model in the system' method of design incorporates a model of the desired dynamics into the actual control system and minimizes the difference between the system and model state vectors. A model of the lateral-directional axes was formulated which incorporated dutch roll natural frequency, dutch roll damping factor, and the roll time constant. The values of these parameters were selected to correspond to the operational aircraft over five flight conditions. For the 'model in the performance index' method, a four gain controller was arrived at employing rudder and ailerons as the controls. (Author).

Book Nonlinear Optimal Model Following Control of Flexible Aircraft

Download or read book Nonlinear Optimal Model Following Control of Flexible Aircraft written by André Luís da Silva and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every aircraft is a flexible body and its motion should be evaluated by the continuum mechanics. However, in the flight mechanics, they are commonly treated as rigid. In other way, in the structural dynamics scenario, rigid body modes are usually neglected. Such segregation is acceptable when sufficient separation exist between the frequencies of rigid and flexible modes. But, trends in the aircraft industry are leading to longer fuselages, larger aspect ratios, smaller thicknesses and the use of composite materials. Such configurations are more flexible and integrated models for flight mechanics and structural dynamics should be taken. This book develops the theme in a scenario of modelling, simulation and optimal control. Models of conceptual flexible aircraft are built in order to be used in control studies. A nonlinear optimal model following control is proposed. Linear solutions are developed, nonlinear approaches are also investigated, via neural networks. The technique is used to approximate the flexible aircraft as a rigid body, letting the job of controlling flexible modes to the automatic control, while an human or autopilot can see the aircraft as a usual rigid body.
