It has been demonstrated that fourth-grade pupils can do the work here outlined not only with an intelligent understanding of the subject, but with keen enjoy ment of it. In this grade, therefore, it seems wise to lay the necessary foundation for more advanced work, and begin the actual study of the dictionary. Book An Outline of History for the Grades

Download or read book An Outline of History for the Grades written by Ellwood Wadsworth Kemp and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Outline of History, for the Grades The aim of this outline is to present the connected threads and principles which the author has worked out in detailed form for children in A History for Graded and District Schools. Two chief ends have been aimed at: first, to present a plan of work which will, if followed by the teacher, tend to develop in her mind a real sense of history, - of its growth and unity; second, to suggest such material for the use of pupils as will tend to develop in their minds the true historic sense and lift them from grade to grade into ever wider and richer historical views. The outline is based upon the idea that pupils in history should be led to feel and participate in the life of the people they are studying, - feel the problems of daily living which confronted them and strive to solve them. Like all outlines, it must be filled in with material drawn from books, pictures, maps, stories, poems, and other illustrative material, in order to be made effective. It is simply a skeleton; the teacher and pupil must clothe it with flesh, and breathe into it the pulsating life of history. To aid toward this end, in addition to the history of which this book is an outline, a list of books has been suggested at the close of the outline of work for each grade. In making these lists care has been taken to give teachers such information as will enable them easily to judge something of the nature and fitness of each book for their particular needs. Book Manual for Primary Grades Including Outline by Lessons

Download or read book Manual for Primary Grades Including Outline by Lessons written by George G. White and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual for Primary Grades, Including Outline by Lessons: With Suggestions for Teaching White's New Course in Art Instruction embodies the ideas and experience of many persons who, starting at widely separated points and working along different lines, have arrived almost simultaneously at the same conclusions. It differs from other courses in plan, method, aims, and in its order of lessons. I. Its plan comprehends the entire subject of art instruction, from which the several departments of the work and their subdivisions are derived. It follows, therefore, that the divisions are logical, natural, and recognized by established usage. Thus, the department of Geometric Drawing naturally and logically includes measurements, geometry, working drawings, developments, and, in short, the whole realm of mathematical, or instrumental, drawing. The department of Decorative Drawing embraces the study of color, historic ornament, botanical drawing, and the employment of the information thus gained in making original decorative designs, in paper-cutting, etc. Pictorial Drawing is the comprehensive term employed to cover all the elements of freehand drawing from regular solids, simple objects, sketching from nature, etc. II. The methods employed are determined by the laws of the mind. Since the object itself impresses the mind more vividly and accurately than any representation of the object, models and objects take the place of pictures to be copied throughout the course; that is, pupils draw from real things, not from pictures. Book Course of Study for Primary Grades

Download or read book Course of Study for Primary Grades written by Philippines; Bureau of Education and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-13 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Course of Study for Primary Grades: With Suggestions to Teachers It is believed that conditions existing in the public primary schools of the Philippine Islands demand that the Bureau of Education issue something more than a mere outline of the academic work as a guide for teachers. Preceding the revised outlines, therefore, are suggestions concerning aims, emphasis; and method. These suggestions are known to be incomplete, but it has been considered better to send out material that is admittedly lacking in completeness than to wait until better and more complete suggestions could be prepared. This course is tentative, for it is hoped that in the near future a course worked out in greater detail can be prepared and more adequate suggestions offered. The opinion of those at work in the field will largely determine any future revisions that may be made. The course and suggestions, therefore, are not offered as in any sense final; but it is believed that they constitute an improvement over the outlines formerly in use. The outlines of the various subjects in the different grades approximate a distribution of time only, for it is recognized that no one set of outlines for a certain grade can be suitable for every class. Some deviation from the time schedule given in these outlines, therefore, is authorized. In certain grades strong classes will go faster than the outline course suggests, while it is also true that weaker classes can best take up the work at a slower rate than that suggested. Division superintendents, academic supervisors, supervising teachers, and teachers should use their judgment in adapting these outlines to the needs of classes. Book Public School Methods Vol 1 Classic Reprint

Download or read book Public School Methods Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-08 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Public School Methods, Vol. 1 Many people who purchase books fail to derive the greatest benefit from their purchase because they do not at first take the trouble to become acquainted with the plan and Scope Of the work. The editor Of Public School Methods wishes to forestall this difficulty by urging every purchaser of a set Of these volumes to read the Preface and Foreword as the first step in the use of the work. In vol. III, Chapter IX, Books and Libraries, will be found specific directions for using books, and every teacher will find these directions helpful in showing her how to use Public School Methods. The second feature to which we wish to call special atten tion is Plans for Teaching. These plans follow the chapters on all the common branches, and carry the work Of each subject through the year for each grade. In the first grade they even go into details for each day's lesson. In the others they outline the work for each month. The plans follow the most recent courses Of study. They have been prepared by those who have devoted many years as practical teachers; consequently, they are thoroughly practicable. Nothing is suggested that has not proved successful wherever it has been tried. Teachers will find these plans a safe guide, and their use will save much time and effort which can be profitably spent in other ways. The close relation existing between the Kindergarten and the first grade in the public schools has been recognized, and both the Kindergarten and primary teacher will find the chapter Kindergarten especially helpful. This Chapter was pre pared by Miss Katharine Martin Of the School of Education, University of Chicago, and is strong and practical throughout. Many new stories with illustrations have been added to the chapters on Reading, and the teachers will find this new material valuable in making the connection between the lessons on the blackboard and those in the primer. It also furnishes excellent material for supplementary reading. The chapter on Language by Miss Achsah May Harris Of the State Normal School, Emporia, Kansas, is replete with methods, suggestions and material covering this important work for the first three grades. Every page Of this chapter is practical and the suggestions can be applied in any school. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
