Download or read book Julian Bond s Time to Teach written by Julian Bond and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A masterclass in the civil rights movement from one of the legendary activists who led it. Compiled from his original lecture notes, Julian Bond’s Time to Teach brings his invaluable teachings to a new generation of readers and provides a necessary toolkit for today’s activists in the era of Black Lives Matter and #MeToo. Julian Bond sought to dismantle the perception of the civil rights movement as a peaceful and respectable protest that quickly garnered widespread support. Through his lectures, Bond detailed the ground-shaking disruption the movement caused, its immense unpopularity at the time, and the bravery of activists (some very young) who chose to disturb order to pursue justice. Beginning with the movement’s origins in the early twentieth century, Bond tackles key events such as the Montgomery bus boycott, the Little Rock Nine, Freedom Rides, sit-ins, Mississippi voter registration, the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church Bombing, the March on Washington, the Civil Rights Act, Freedom Summer, and Selma. He explains the youth activism, community ties, and strategizing required to build strenuous and successful movements. With these firsthand accounts of the civil rights movement and original photos from Danny Lyon, Julian Bond’s Time to Teach makes history come alive.

This book was released on 101-01-01 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a young adult, i was in a relationship with a man that was verbally abusive, we would argue, and then he would apologize and promise never again to be that cruel. He would put the world on a plate, until the next time. His abusive behaviors became more frequent and more violent. One day he laid his hands on me, and i realized the situation could become very dangerous if i allowed it to go on. I knew i had to escape. The cycle of abuse and love changes our mindset and keeps us trapped in these relationships. This cycle is done to us, it is not our fault, but this is trauma bonding. Inside, you will discover: • Signs and characteristics of trauma bonding • How it feels when you are trauma bonded to a narcissist • The emotional dynamics of trauma-bonding • How to pull yourself out of the toxic bond • Detoxing after a trauma bond and live the life you desire. • ... & lot more! You have been spending years being accepted and loved by your parent or partner without success, and you still suffer a lot for that; many times, you have thought probably they are right, something is wrong with you, and you don't deserve to be loved and respected. You just feel useless and frustrated. By making you feel guilty and confused all the time, they turn you into a helpless victim.

Download or read book Treacherous Bonds and Laughing Fire Politics and Religion in Wagner s Ring written by Mark Berry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-07-05 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mark Berry explores the political and religious ideas expounded in Wagner's Ring through close attention to the text and drama, the multifarious intellectual influences upon the composer during the work's lengthy gestation and composition, and the wealth of Wagner source material. Many of his writings are explicitly political in their concerns, for Wagner was emphatically not a revolutionary solely for the sake of art. Yet it would be misleading to see even the most 'political' tracts as somehow divorced from the aesthetic realm; Wagner's radical challenge to liberal-democratic politics makes no such distinction. This book considers Wagner's treatment of various worlds: nature, politics, economics, and metaphysics, in order to explain just how radical that challenge is. Classical interpretations have tended to opt either for an 'optimistic' view of the Ring, centred upon the influence of Young Hegelian thought - in particular the philosophy of Ludwig Feuerbach - and Wagner's concomitant revolutionary politics, or for the 'pessimistic' option, removing the disillusioned Wagner-in-Swiss-exile from the political sphere and stressing the undoubtedly important role of Arthur Schopenhauer. Such an 'either-or' approach seriously misrepresents not only Wagner's compositional method but also his intellectual method. It also sidelines inconvenient aspects of the dramas that fail to 'fit' whichever interpretation is selected. Wagner's tendency is not progressively to recant previous 'errors' in his oeuvre. Radical ideas are not completely replaced by a Schopenhauerian world-view, however loudly the composer might come to trumpet his apparent 'conversion'. Nor is Wagner's truly an Hegelian method, although Hegelian dialectic plays an important role. In fact, Wagner is in many ways not really a systematic thinker at all (which is not to portray him as self-consciously unsystematic in a Nietzschean, let alone 'post-modernist' fashion).

Download or read book Alienation and Identity in Romantic Love written by Gary Foster and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The concept of romantic love, influenced as it is by the theme within Romanticism of alienation and identification, suggests an important connection between love and personal identity. Love in this context recognizes both the sense in which one’s beloved is a separate human being and is, at the same time, a constitutive aspect of one’s identity. Alienation and Identity in Romantic Love explores this connection in the context of discussions of both metaphysical views of personal identity and practical or ethical accounts. To this end, Gary Foster discusses the work of influential philosophers in both the analytic and continental traditions as well as the findings of sociologists. He explores the love and personal identity relationship through moral and narrative perspectives and examines certain aspects of the modern love experience such as the phenomenon of online dating. Ultimately, Foster finds in Jean-Paul Sartre’s work a promising approach to understanding this connection through his emphasis on embodied identity.
