When Our Lady lived in Nazareth two thousand years ago, she was very poor and probably didn’t have many nice things to wear. But now that she’s in Heaven, she has an enormous mansion. And in that mansion she has an incredibly beautiful wardrobe filled with a great variety of dresses, veils, slippers, sashes, robes, rings and crowns. Over the centuries, Our Lady has visited the people of Earth many times. On each of these occasions she has dressed very differently. Our Lady’s Wardrobe tells the story of some of her most famous apparitions, highlighting the clothes she wore and the things she did. By reading this book, children will not only learn about the Mother of God, but will also learn the main purpose of her life—to love and serve her son, Jesus Christ, and to lead others to do the same.

Our Lady, Undoer of Knots: A Living Novena is a unique guided meditation from veteran Catholic journalist Marge Fenelon, who has created a new devotional practice from this classic novena that is a favorite of Pope Francis. Since the seventeenth century, Catholics facing seemingly insurmountable obstacles have turned to Our Lady, Undoer of Knots through a special novena--nine days of prayer for divine intervention. Catholic columnist Marge Fenelon resurrects this ancient tradition, also known as the Unfailing Novena, by reflecting on nine sacred sites associated with Pope Francis's 2014 pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Reflecting on such holy places as Bethlehem, the Mount of Olives, and the Temple Mount, Fenelon helps readers explore the "knots" or impossible situations in their own lives in order to find peace.

Parents send their daughters to Our Lady of the Nile to be molded into respectable citizens and to escape the dangers of the outside world. Fifteen years prior to the 1994 Rwandan genocide, we watch as these girls try on their parents’ preconceptions and attitudes, transforming the lycée into a microcosm of the country’s mounting racial tensions and violence. In the midst of the interminable rainy season, everything unfolds behind the closed doors of the school: friendship, curiosity, fear, deceit, prejudice, and persecution. With masterful prose that is at once subtle and penetrating, Mukasonga captures a society hurtling towards horror.

Book excerpt: One Monday morning in April, a middle-aged writer walks into her living room to water the plants and finds a woman standing beside her potted fig tree. Dressed in a navy blue trench coat and white Nikes, the woman introduces herself as "Mary. Mother of God.... You know. Mary." Instead of a golden robe or a crown, she arrives bearing a practical wheeled suitcase. Weary after two thousand years of adoration and petition, Mary is looking for a little R & R. She's asked in for lunch, and decides to stay a week. As the story of their visit unfolds, so does the story of Mary-one of the most complex and powerful female figures of our time-and her changing image in culture, art, history, as well as the thousands of recorded sightings that have placed her everywhere from a privet hedge to the dented bumper of a Camaro. As this Everywoman and Mary become friends, their conversations, both profound and intimate, touch upon Mary's significance and enduring relevance. Told with humor and grace, Our Lady of the Lost and Found is an absorbing tour through Mary's history and a thoughtful meditation on spirituality, our need for faith, and our desire to believe in something larger than ourselves.

Here is the whole remarkable story of the appearance of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three simple children at an obscure Portuguese village in 1917. Her prophecies of World War II and the rise of communism, her plea to humanity to do penance, her promise that world peace and the conversion of Russia would take place if her messages were heeded -- these are some of the dramatic events in this fascinating account of a modern miracle. Our Lady of Fatima is a magnificent re-creation of an event whose effects are still reverberating throughout the world -- the appearance in person of the Mother of God with a "peace plan from heaven."

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For Mexican Catholic women in the United States, devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe-La Virgen-is a necessary aspect of their cultural identity. In this masterful ethnography, Mar a Del Socorro Casta eda-Liles considers three generations of Mexican-origin women between the ages of 18 and 82. She examines the Catholic beliefs the women inherited from their mothers and how these beliefs become the template from which they first learn to see themselves as people of faith. She also offers a comprehensive analysis of how Catholicism creates a culture in which Mexican-origin women learn how to be "good girls" in a manner that reduces their agency to rubble. Through the nexus of faith and lived experience, these women develop a type of Mexican Catholic imagination that helps them challenge the sanctification of shame, guilt, and aguante (endurance at all cost). This imagination allows these women to transgress strict notions of what a good Catholic woman should be while retaining life-giving aspects of Catholicism. This transgression is most visible in their relationship to La Virgen, which is a fluid and deeply engaged process of self-awareness in everyday life.

Book Our Lady s Psalter

Download or read book Our Lady s Psalter written by Fr. Marco Testa and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2012-04-30 with total page 67 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume, reminiscent of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, contains the oldest rosary clausulae in Latin and their English counterparts. It brings together different traditional elements of a prayer that over centuries has evolved and which continues to form the faithful in the Gospel. By combining these deeply spiritual and theological formulae with the Hail Mary, the more ancient form of the rosary is wedded to its more recent expression. There are three Psalters or groupings of fifty meditations in this collection. The clausular rosary consecrates a particular mystery of the life of Jesus to each Hail Mary. Since this form of prayer aims to lead towards contemplation of the Mystery of Christ, the quantity of prayers is not what matters. It is for you to determine the number of themes you wish to contemplate. This ancient form of the Rosary is eminently suited to the observance of the Year of Faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Help me help you. Our Lady of Unity is pleading to all Gods children to help her in helping us reached the most difficult and demanding journey to our heavenly homeland. A hundred years ago at Fatima, Portugal, she appeared to the three little children and brought the message of repentance, prayer, penance and fasting and the whole world paid serious attention when thousands saw the miracle of the spinning sun. The miraculous event drove millions back to the church. However, the new age had strayed adopting a new culture of life contrary to the Gospel leading so many to eternal death. She revealed to the community that tens of thousands of souls were lost every single day because of gross negligence in taking great care of their immortal soul with their refusal to believe and embrace the message of the Gospel. As the world closes in of its final phase of existence, our Lady with the assistance of her community are working fervently and devoutly for the conversion of Gods wayward children to the true church. She is calling all to be baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit so one can be integrated to the Body of her Son so salvation is possible. She repeatedly warns that no one can come to the heavenly Father except through her Son. Our Lady reminded us that through her we can be united with Jesus making us truly a real part of Him. But her greatest enemy had deceived billions including Christians by ignoring or marginalizing her intercessory powers to the Triune God. To ensure ones salvation it is truly wise to have both Jesus and Mary on our side.
