Book Status and the Challenge of Rising Powers

Download or read book Status and the Challenge of Rising Powers written by Steven Ward and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The rise of China and other great powers raises important questions about the persistence and stability of the 'liberal international order'. This book provides a new perspective on these questions by offering a novel theory of revisionist challenges to international order. It argues that rising powers sometimes seem to face the condition of 'status immobility', which activates social psychological and domestic political forces that push them toward lashing out in protest against status quo rules, norms, and institutions. Ward shows that status immobility theory illuminates important but often-overlooked dynamics that contributed to the most significant revisionist challenges in modern history. The book highlights the importance of status in world politics, and further advances a new understanding of this important concept's role in foreign policy. This book will be of interest to researchers in international politics and security, especially those interested in great power politics, status, power transitions, revisionism, and order.

This book was released on 2021-06-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having overcome countless trials (without much difficulty), Yogiri and Tomochika finally managed to reunite with their classmates in the capital. But between the efforts of Ayaka, a synthetic classmate who swore revenge against her fellow students, the meddling of Sion, a Sage determined to cull the weak and produce a new superbeing from their class of candidates, and the revival of the Dark God Mana, the majority of the class — not to mention the entire capital — were ultimately wiped out. Somehow, amid the chaos, the unlikely pair were able to draw Sion out and acquire their first concrete clue about how to get home: they will need a number of Philosopher’s Stones, powerful artifacts carried within the bodies of the Sages. After taking one from Sion and finding another dropped into their laps by Risley, the only surviving clone of the Sage Lain, who they killed some time earlier, the two highschoolers set off in search of a third energy source, leaving a trail of ruins behind them.

  • Publisher : Academic Studies PRess
  • Release : 2020-11-10
  • ISBN : 1644693739
  • Pages : 285 pages

Download or read book Judaism s Challenge written by Alon Goshen-Gottstein and published by Academic Studies PRess. This book was released on 2020-11-10 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One cannot think of Judaism without taking some stance relating to Israel’s special status, its election. The present collection highlights the challenges that Judaism faces, as it continues to uphold a sense of chosenness and as it seeks to engage the world beyond it—nations, as well as religions. The challenge is captured by the dual implication of election: divine love on the one hand and enmity with others on the other. Israel’s election, mission and vocation are played out within this tension of love, grounded in God and extending to humanity, and the opposite of love, as this finds expression in Israel’s relations with others. Israel must work out the purpose of its election and its realization in history in the tension between these two extremes. This challenge takes on great urgency in the context of advances in interfaith relations. These lead us to reflect on the meaning of Israel’s election as part of developing a contemporary Jewish theology of world religions.

Book The BRICs Superpower Challenge

Download or read book The BRICs Superpower Challenge written by Professor Kwang Ho Chun and published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd.. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an imaginative and interesting way, Kwang Ho Chun seeks to capture the dynamics of the changing international system and the prospects for a change in the international distribution of power. The idea that new superpowers could rise and that some of the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India and China) could be such superpowers, is particularly intriguing and the main idea explored in this study. In line with neo-realist approaches, this book argues that in a unipolar world competitors will rise to challenge the global hegemon. As the power profiles of the BRICs rise and they gain greater control of geo-global politics, they are likely to attain significant regional dominance among other regional powers although their underdeveloped tradition of hard power and internal challenges could prevent them from gaining superpower status. This book captures the dynamics of the changing international system and the prospects for a change in the international distribution of power.

Book Rising China in a Changing World

Download or read book Rising China in a Changing World written by Jin Kai and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-21 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, Jin Kai provides an alternative perspective on the power interactions between a rising China and a "relatively" declining U.S. in the changing world situation. Grounded in previous scholarship, Jin argues that China's rise is historically, culturally, and structurally different; a peaceful power transition requires engagement by the U.S. in international institutions. Grounded in case studies and theory, this study will be of relevance to any reader interested in the evolving great power relationship between China and the U.S.

Book The Intertextuality of Terry Pratchett s Discworld as a Major Challenge for the Translator

Download or read book The Intertextuality of Terry Pratchett s Discworld as a Major Challenge for the Translator written by Aleksander Rzyman and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-01-06 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the translator, intertexts are among chief problems posed by the source text. Often unmarked typographically, direct or altered, not necessarily well-known and sometimes intersemiotic, quotations and references to other writings and culture texts call for erudition and careful handling, so that readers of the translation stand a chance of spotting them, too. For the reader, the rich intertextuality of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is among its trademark features. Consequently, it should not be missed in translations whose success thus depends significantly on the quality of translation of the intertexts which, as is highlighted here, cover a vast and varied range of types of original texts. The book focuses on how to deal with Pratchett’s intertexts: how to track them down, analyse their role, predict obstacles to their effective translation, and suggest translation solutions – complete with a discussion of the translation of selected intertextual fragments in the Polish version, Świat Dysku, a concise overview of intertextual theories, and an assessment of the translator’s work.
