Download or read book Ghazali on the Principles of Islamic Spirituality written by Ghazzālī and published by SkyLight Paths Publishing. This book was released on 2012 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The wisdom of one of the greatest scholars of Islam can be a companion on your own spiritual journey. Considered by many to be the all-time greatest scholar of Islam, Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (1058-1111) was also one of the foremost sages of theology, philosophy and Sufism. His writings on the interrelation of law, theology and mysticism were central in establishing Sufism as a core dimension of orthodox Islamic practice. Muslim communities all across the world today still base much of their practice of Islam on Ghazali's writings. The Forty Foundations of Religion, Ghazali's own summary of his magnum opus, The Revival of the Religious Sciences, serves as a brief and powerful summary of Islamic faith, worship, law and spirituality. It outlines the basis of Islamic belief, the foundational matters of ritual and practice, and the character traits a person must cultivate and avoid in the perfection of faith. Now you can experience the wisdom of Ghazali even if you have no previous knowledge of The Forty Foundations of Religion or Islam. This SkyLight Illuminations edition--the first publication of significant portions of The Forty Foundations of Religion in English--provides original translations of selected highlights accompanied by insightful commentary that makes the core message of this great spiritual master relevant to anyone seeking a balanced understanding of Islam.

Book excerpt: Lessons from a lifetime spent at MIT, the Pentagon, White House, and Los Angeles City Hall. I learned leadership and management by trial and--often--error. Many of the lessons were profound and imprinted on my heart. Some were things that "everybody knows," but I didn't yet. The stories in this little book are about the lessons that were imprinted on my heart, never to be forgotten. Many are about leadership, some merely about life. Tom Peters loved this book and wrote, "This is as fine a leadership book as I have read in many many a year. Read. Act. ASAP."

Download or read book The Dynamics of Cultural Evolution written by Michael Rosenberg and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-07-09 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the nature of cultural and culturally structured social and behavioral entities, their evolutionary interactions, and the central role purposive behaviors play in those interactions. It, first, makes the case for cultural and cultural structured systems being considered as true entities bounded in time and space, and not ephemera in a constant state of becoming another system. Second, it examines how these entities interact to produce evolutionary culture change. It then argues that the intent of purposive behaviors is reliably knowable in the aggregate, at least when dealing with expressions of behavioral tendencies in the animal kingdom, humans included. Finally, the book references well documented behavioral tendencies for examples of proximate causation in the evolution of settled village societies and, following that, socially complex societies. Through these efforts, the book synthesizes the various approaches to the evolution of culture and provides a complete and comprehensive picture of the process. It provides a corrective to the tendency to view cultural systems as entirely open ended and as capable of changing in any direction; and also to treating cultural evolution as solely a result of selective forces, that is, in terms of only ultimate causation. This book provides an engaging and critical counterview to established theories of cultural evolution and is of interest to scholars and students of different disciplines, from anthropology and archeology, to evolutionary biology and epigenetics.
Download or read book Secundum Naturam According to Nature written by Ron Hall and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-04-09 with total page 740 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stoicism is a logical philosophy. Herein, one may learn to reason like a Stoic, which leads to making progress toward living in accord with nature, and from which an abiding happiness is produced. Secundum Naturam is an exploration of Stoicism, given the thesis that the philosophical doctrines derive from Stoic logic. Itself, Stoic logic derives from one, first principle: contradiction does not exist in nature, although we contradict nature when we err. The connectives, modalities, and argument resolutions are all defined with respect to contradiction as conflict (between Both p and Not p). And when your will contradicts nature, you are living contrary to nature, while the goal is to live secundum naturam, according to nature. Best of all, learn how to improve yourself with Stoic logic, according to reason, according to nature, only with Secundum Naturam.
