Mother St. Paul is always a heart-searcher. She presses self-reform upon souls, who to the eye of outward observers and perhaps in their own conceit, have little or nothing to amend. We must always be following Christ, and Christ is ever moving forward. Deliberately to stand still is to widen the distance between ourselves and Him, an ungenerous, not to say a dangerous thing to do. What are called here Meditations may well be taken for daily spiritual reading in preparation for Christmas. Advent after all is a season of joy, and these Meditations must be taken in a joyful spirit. Courage and enthusiasm in the cause of Christ is the supreme need of all Catholics who really love His coming. (2 Tim. iv. 8)

Book Orthus Christi Meditations for Advent

Download or read book Orthus Christi Meditations for Advent written by Mother Paul and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-01-28 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The word Advent derives from the Latin word meaning coming. The Lord is coming. We may reflect that every year at this time we celebrate his coming, so that in a sense we can lose the feeling of expectancy and joyful anticipation, because at the end of the season, everything seems to return to pretty much the same routine. If that is the case, then our preparation may have been lacking and we have therefore been robbed of much of the true meaning of this season. During Advent we recall the history of God's people and reflect on how the prophecies and promises of the Old Testament were fulfilled. This gives us a background for the present. Today we can reflect on the past track record of God and so begin to understand what it means to us now for the sake of what is to come, in our own future and that of our world. Reading these Meditations we discover with surprise how much spiritual food is obtainable from a study of the lessons and liturgy of Advent. Advent after all is a season of joy, and these Meditations must be taken in a joyful spirit. Courage and enthusiasm in the cause of Christ is the supreme need of all Catholics who really love His coming. (2 Tim. iv. 8) JOSEPH RICKABY, S. J.

Book A Growing Light Advent Meditations

Download or read book A Growing Light Advent Meditations written by John L. Hoh, Jr. and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-11-17 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In all the hustle and bustle of Christmas preparations one often overlooks the meditation oasis known as the Advent season. Advent is the four week pre-Christmas season of the Church year that focuses on the coming fulfillment of Messianic prophecy as well as our own anticipated return of our Lord for the Judgment. "Advent" means "to come" and is appropriate as the focus is on both the Old Testament believers looking for the coming Messiah and New Testament believers looking for the return of the Christ. This book contains sermons and meditations for this season as well as an explanation of the Advent wreath and the candles within that wreath.
