Book Cognitive Phase Transitions in the Cerebral Cortex Enhancing the Neuron Doctrine by Modeling Neural Fields

Download or read book Cognitive Phase Transitions in the Cerebral Cortex Enhancing the Neuron Doctrine by Modeling Neural Fields written by Robert Kozma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This intriguing book was born out of the many discussions the authors had in the past 10 years about the role of scale-free structure and dynamics in producing intelligent behavior in brains. The microscopic dynamics of neural networks is well described by the prevailing paradigm based in a narrow interpretation of the neuron doctrine. This book broadens the doctrine by incorporating the dynamics of neural fields, as first revealed by modeling with differential equations (K-sets). The book broadens that approach by application of random graph theory (neuropercolation). The book concludes with diverse commentaries that exemplify the wide range of mathematical/conceptual approaches to neural fields. This book is intended for researchers, postdocs, and graduate students, who see the limitations of network theory and seek a beachhead from which to embark on mesoscopic and macroscopic neurodynamics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the CRM Conference Series is based on a carefully refereed selection of contributions presented at the "11th International Symposium on Quantum Theory and Symmetries", held in Montreal, Canada from July 1-5, 2019. The main objective of the meeting was to share and make accessible new research and recent results in several branches of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics, including Algebraic Methods, Condensed Matter Physics, Cosmology and Gravitation, Integrability, Non-perturbative Quantum Field Theory, Particle Physics, Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Theory, and String/ADS-CFT. There was also a special session in honour of Decio Levi. The volume is divided into sections corresponding to the sessions held during the symposium, allowing the reader to appreciate both the homogeneity and the diversity of mathematical tools that have been applied in these subject areas. Several of the plenary speakers, who are internationally recognized experts in their fields, have contributed reviews of the main topics to complement the original contributions. .

Book excerpt: This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex advancements in the field of thermodynamics. It explores the modern systems and principles introduced in this field. Thermodynamics is the study of the relation of heat and temperature with forms of energy. It is based on four principal laws that define and characterize physical quantities. The technological progress over the years has fueled the advancements in the field of thermodynamics. The prevalent thermodynamic principles and concepts have applications across a range of fields such as chemical engineering, industrial ecology, physical chemistry, etc. The data collated in this book provides in-depth knowledge about the modern theories of thermodynamics. The extensive content herein will be helpful for those who want to broaden the expanse of their knowledge in this area of study.

  • ISBN : 1785615823
  • Pages : 601 pages

Download or read book Many Core Computing written by Bashir M. Al-Hashimi and published by Institution of Engineering and Technology. This book was released on 2019-05-31 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computing has moved away from a focus on performance-centric serial computation, instead towards energy-efficient parallel computation. This provides continued performance increases without increasing clock frequencies, and overcomes the thermal and power limitations of the dark-silicon era. As the number of parallel cores increases, we transition into the many-core computing era. There is considerable interest in developing methods, tools, architectures and applications to support many-core computing.

Book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers

Download or read book Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers written by Lieng-Huang Lee and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Honolulu is a most beautiful place, suitable for all occa sions. Its choice as the meeting site for the first Joint Chemical Congress between the American Chemical Society and the Chemical Society of Japan was praised by scientists from both sides. During this Congress, the International Conference on Adhesion and Adsorption of Polymers was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel between April 2 and 5, 1979. We had speakers from ten nations presenting over forty papers related to the subject matter. It was a memorable event. Unlike our two previous adhesion symposia held in 1971 and 1975, this was the first time in the same conference that we discussed both adhesion and adsorption of polymers simultaneously. These two important phenomena are not only inter-related, but also equally important in adhesive technology as well as biochemical processes. The papers presented to this Conference deal with these two phenomena from both fundamental and practical viewpoints. Furthermore, with the advance of new surface analytical techniques, the actual, microscopic happenings at the interfaces can be pin pointed. Thus, characterization of interface became one of the major focuses of this Conference. As a result, a broad coverage of the subject matter includes statistical thermodynamics, surface physics, surface analysis, fracture mechanics, viscoelasticity, failure analysis, surface modification, adsorption kinetics, bio polymer adsorption, etc. Thanks to the diligence of our contri butors, we are now able to publish the final papers in these two volumes.

Book Polymer Physics Twenty Five Years of the Edwards Model

Download or read book Polymer Physics Twenty Five Years of the Edwards Model written by S. M. Bhattacharjee and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992-03-01 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The proceedings of this workshop contains 5 important papers by S A Edwards on the Edwards Model and includes discussions on recent theoretical developments in polymer physics.A few decades ago, polymers were not considered part of conventional physics. However, the scenario changed drastically in the sixties and seventies with the introduction of path integral methods, fields theory in the n limits, and renormalization group approach. A vital step in this progress is the path integral Hamiltonian that S F Edwards proposed in 1965-66 to study a single chain. This model now called the Edwards model, is considered to be the minimal model for polymers, and it has been phenomenal in unraveling the universal properties of polymers, be it a single chain or many, equilibrium or dynamics. It has now crossed the boundary of polymers and is finding applications through appropriate generalizations in many other problems.
