A manager who can cope with their emotions indirectly contributes to organizational effectiveness. This situation is especially important in human-oriented organizations providing services rather than goods, such as educational institutions. Leadership is a process of social influence, which maximizes the efforts of others towards the achievement of a goal. Leadership stems from social influence rather than authority or power. In terms of system approach, the input, output, process, and feedback of educational organizations are always related to human behaviors. Therefore, organizations must address the nature of human beings in all of their managerial processes. Although organizations, in which people are at the foreground, try to continue their functioning on a rational and formal basis throughout the managerial process, they sometimes have to manage emotional and informal phenomena. In this case, there is a need for managers and school leaders who can shape the rationale in line with the requirements of human nature. What is expected from this administrator is that they do not ignore human needs and emotions while providing the management of educational institutions. For this reason, these managers should be "leaders" rather than "executives" who only work in a formal framework of organization management. Moreover, principals and teachers should also be leaders in all educational processes. Emotions are the main catalyst of positive organizational culture. Leaders can create an effective organizational culture with the main source of positive emotions between employers. Positive emotions also motivate employees for organizational purposes. If a leader wishes to create and maintain an effective organizational culture, it is essential to support positive behavior and emotional climate in their institutes and schools. Leaders-school-managers and teachers, therefore, need to develop emotion management abilities. Educational organizations need to shape their organizational culture, climate, and psychology to support their leaders in efficiently managing their employees’ emotions. Up to now, this topic has been usually addressed as the main catalyst and a sub-dimension of emotional intelligence. Moreover, current evidence classifies social and empathy skills as other sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence. For this reason, this collection of peer-reviewed articles will draw attention to the contemporary term "emotional management" and contribute to educational fields by means of exploring the relationship between emotions and leadership.

Book excerpt: The international literature on non-standard employment has mostly focussed on its impact on employment, and more recently on working and living conditions. This volume explores these issues with special reference to Italy. Italy is characterized by very low participation rates (particularly women’s), a high degree of fragmentation of labour contracts and a very intense non-standard work diffusion that make this context a particularly interesting case for analysis. New elements of discussion are provided with reference to the interaction of non-standard work, employment probability and living conditions. Interesting insights on the impact of non-standard work on the transition to stable employment and workers’ careers emerge, suggesting a possible failure of companies’ internal systems of work evaluation. The effects on labour productivity and on companies’ performance are analysed. Within this framework, a new perspective on quality of work is suggested.

Book excerpt: Moral behavior is subject to socially accepted moral norms and also has a pervasive influence on organizational performance. With the emergence of ethical issues found in organizations, practitioners and scholars pay increasing attention to ethics management. Therefore, workplace moral behavior (e.g., pro-social behavior and organizational citizenship behavior - OCB) and immoral behavior (e.g., interpersonal abusive behavior, deviant/counterproductive behavior, and unethical pro-organizational behavior) have also received substantial research interests over the past decades. To date, the most common framework used to study moral behavior has been the cognitive approach, with abundant evidence demonstrating that emotion and cognition are the two core elements in generating and influencing workplace (im)moral behavior. However, limited studies have been conducted to explore the emotional/cognitive processes or integrative moral emotion-cognition system relevant to workplace moral behavior. Despite our knowledge of the antecedents and consequences of workplace (im)moral behaviors, more research on the generating mechanism, influencing mechanism, transformation mechanism, and governance strategies is needed. For example, it is unclear how exhibiting (im)moral behavior in the workplace would impact the actor’s and the third-party observer’s emotions, thoughts, feelings, and subsequent behavior. Besides, the question of whether ethical/unethical leader behavior would trigger a “trickle-down effect” is underdeveloped, which refers to the fact that how the behavior or perception of the top leaders affects employees from top to bottom along the formal vertical power chain. In addition, we have little knowledge on when, how, and why the ethical employees (the so-called “good soldiers”) would engage in workplace immoral behavior, and vice-versa.

Undeniably, the pace with which Industry 4.0 has been accelerating has bypassed the first three industrial revolutions, which is definitely a consequence of the fast introduction of new and cutting-edge technologies. Book excerpt: Enhancing employees' performance has always been a major concern for leaders and Human Resources (HR) practitioners in public and private sectors. Employees are regarded as the most valuable asset of an organization and the key to growth and development. Moreover, leaders have a significant and essential influence on employees' performance. In this regard, authentic leadership theory is considered a newly emerging and promising theory in the field of leadership. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between employees' perceptions of authentic leadership and positive employees outcomes, such as work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB), in the petroleum industry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as to assess the mediating role of psychological empowerment between authentic leadership, work engagement and OCB. The petroleum industry makes a vital contribution to the national and global economy and as such, small changes in the performance of the petroleum industry can have a great impact from both the local and international perspectives. The study is guided by the following general research question: Is there a relationship between authentic leadership, work engagement and OCB among UAE nationals in the petroleum industry, with psychological empowerment as the mediating factor? This relationship is examined using a non-experimental, quantitative approach. A total of 367 UAE nationals working in one of the major petroleum companies in the UAE were selected as survey participants, and 189 employees fully completed the online survey. Participants were asked to complete a questionnaire consisting of basic demographics and previously validated scales to measure employees' perceptions of authentic leadership, work engagement, OCB, and psychological empowerment. In addition, the collected data were analyzed through several statistical techniques, suh as structural equation modeling (SEM) and statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS). The study assumed that there is a positive relationship between the independent and dependent variables based on the literature review and developed theoretical framework. The findings suggest that first, there is a positive and significant relationship between authentic leadership and positive organization outcomes, namely work engagement and OCB. Second, authentic leadership is positively and significantly related to psychological empowerment. Third, psychological empowerment acts as a mediator between authentic leadership, work engagement and OCB. In summary, authentic leaders in the UAE's petroleum industry have a significant impact on organizational performance as a result of the positive influence of leaders on employee behaviors. Consequently, several practical and theoretical implications of the findings, as well as future research recommendations are discussed.
