Lehman and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report contains the results of a survey conducted in 1977 and 1978 on how the U.S. Aerospace Industry manages its software development projects. The sample of the U.S. Aerospace Industry that was surveyed consisted of those firms and companies with a membership in the AIAA Technical Committee on Computer Systems. These committee members represented 47 major corporations or major corporation subdivisions and occupied top positions in software management within their firms. The survey used a rather lengthy questionnaire containing 225 numbered questions, however approximately 1,328 separate responses were possible. The survey was divided into three parts. Part One deals with defining the total organization, management structure, requirements, and philosophy of the firm and was intended to be answered by top management to provide the backdrop against which the individual projects would be viewed. Part Two concerns questions about individual projects which were aimed at, and intended to be completed by, the project manager. Part Three was primarily designed to obtain the opinions and perceptions of the project managers developing software on how they viewed major issues and/or major projects of software engineering project management. Book Managing Aerospace Projects

Download or read book Managing Aerospace Projects written by Jimmy Williams and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the next twenty years, the role and contributions of successfully managed projects will continue to grow in importance to aerospace organizations, especially considering the demands of emerging markets. The accompanying challenges will be how to effectively reduce product and process cost where known (incremental) and unknown (transformational) technological innovation is required. Managing Aerospace Projects brings together ten seminal SAE technical papers that support the vision of a more holistic and integrated approach to highly complex projects. Using the concept of project management levers, Dr. Jimmy Williams, Jr., the editor of this title, expands on the critical importance of correctly deciding on •Organizational strategies •Technology and product strategy •Global portfolio strategy •Project portfolio strategy Sub-optimized strategies result in and contribute to a portfolio of misdirected projects and organizational dissatisfaction with project management outcomes unrelated to the actual project management process. As an example, ensuring the convergence and readiness of technologies that are critical for the design, development, and assembly of aircraft requires a disciplined and flexible approach for product and technology development. Operating in an environment in which customer needs and supplier capabilities are dynamic requires continual focus on a portfolio of projects, initiatives, and capabilities that result in sustaining competitive advantage and influence. Managing Aerospace Projects stresses the positive impact of project classification and the specific handling and leadership knowledge requirements so that these endeavors are indeed successful. Some comparisons and lessons from the automotive industry are offered. The notion that project management competence and capabilities are embedded in distinct ways of coordinating and combining multiple competencies suggests that failing to recognize the required organizational adaptations could be a major contributor to sub-optimized project management outcomes.

Book Creative Efficient and Effective Project Management

Download or read book Creative Efficient and Effective Project Management written by Ralph L. Kliem and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2013-10-23 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Creative companies are distinguished by their ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic, changing economy. Their products and services stand out in the market, and these companies’ ability to be agile and innovative is key to their success. Creative, Efficient, and Effective Project Management supplies an in-depth discussion of creativity and its relationship to project management. Specifically, it explains how the tools and techniques of creativity can be used to enhance the five processes executed during a project: defining, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. Establishing the groundwork for encouraging and sustaining creativity in your projects, the book details the benefits of integrating creativity in projects. It discusses common, and not so common, tools and techniques for developing project management deliverables and identifies the challenges that can arise when using creativity in a project. It also details ten little-known facts that can help you overcome the obstacles that often prevent organizations from tapping into the power of creativity in their projects. Each chapter includes a checklist and a case study on the application of the concepts presented. The book also indicates, where applicable, how the topics of discussion relate to the Project Management Institute's (PMI®) Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®). Creativity resides in everyone, but for the most part remains untapped. In this book, you will find thoughts, tools, and techniques that will enable you to tap into your team’s creative energy and direct it towards achieving your project goals and objectives.
