Book Ordovician and Silurian Formations of Anticosti Island Quebec

Download or read book Ordovician and Silurian Formations of Anticosti Island Quebec written by Thomas E. Bolton and published by Ottawa, Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1961 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report summarizes field work initiated in 1957 along Salmon River in the eastern part of Anticosti Island and continued in the western half in 1958. It incorporates information from surveys undertaken in 1941 and 1942. The rock units recognized on the island and the lateral variations present are described here; detailed paleontological studies are in progress.

Book Geological Map 22 H 12E F and Notes on the Ordovician and Silurian Litho and Biostratigraphy Anticosti Island Quebec

Download or read book Geological Map 22 H 12E F and Notes on the Ordovician and Silurian Litho and Biostratigraphy Anticosti Island Quebec written by Thomas E. Bolton and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The six formations detailed on the preliminary geological map of Anticosti Island, Quebec, represent an uninterrupted sequence of nearly flat-lying rocks of Upper Ordovician to Middle Silurian ages. The Upper Ordovician strata, divisible into two formations, Vaureal and Ellis Bay, are persistent, alternating calcareous and argillaceous units, each bearing distinct marine faunal assemblages. These rocks occupy the northwestern one-third of the island. The succeeding Lower and Middle Silurian strata of the Becscie, Gun River and Jupiter Formations are more variable lithological units, the uppermost Chicotte Formation, occurring only along the southern coast of the island, being everywhere a massive, cronoidal limestone. These Silurian formations, of Llandoverian and early Wenlockian ages (Alexandrian and early Niagaran), are highly fossiliferous and divisible into several tentative faunal units. Characteristic fossils from each of the six formations are illustrated in a preliminary fashion and grouped by formation.

Book Ostracoda from the Ellis Bay Formation Ordovician Anticosti Island Quebec

Download or read book Ostracoda from the Ellis Bay Formation Ordovician Anticosti Island Quebec written by Murray John Copeland and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 200- to 300- foot-thick Ellis Bay Formation on Anticosti Island has yielded a well preserved and distinctive ostracode fauna. This fauna is closely related to that of the underlying Vaureal Formation and contains elements common to the Porkuni beds of Estonia and the Dalmanitina Series (5a, 5b) of Norway. The Late Ordovician age of these faunas is indicted.

Book Conodonts from Ordovician Silurian Boundary Strata Whittaker Formation Mackenzie Mountains Northwest Territories

Download or read book Conodonts from Ordovician Silurian Boundary Strata Whittaker Formation Mackenzie Mountains Northwest Territories written by Godfrey S. Nowlan and published by Geological Survey of Canada. This book was released on 1988 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The taxonomic work provides detailed descriptions and illustrations of almost fifty species belonging to twenty-three genera. One new genus and five new species are erected. The resulting taxonomic framework is used to provide a correlation with strata of this age in other sedimentary basins in Canada and elsewhere.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A monographic study that deals with a major marine faunal turnover during the Late Ordovician global greenhouse/icehouse episodes. It aims to document the diversity change of brachiopods (one of the major groups of marine life during the Ordovician Period) from pre-extinction to extinction times.

Book Late Ordovician Articulate Brachiopods from the Red River and Stony Mountain Formations Southern Manitoba

Download or read book Late Ordovician Articulate Brachiopods from the Red River and Stony Mountain Formations Southern Manitoba written by Jisuo Jin and published by NRC Research Press. This book was released on 2001 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of their generally great abundance and high diversity, brachiopods from the Red River and Stony Mountain formations of southern Manitoba are important to understanding the pattern, process, and rate of evolution, radiation, and extinction of the North American epicontinental marine shelly benthos during the Late Ordovician. This report presents a detailed taxonomic treatment of these brachiopods, coupled with an assessment of their implications for biostratigraphy, palaeoecology, and palaeobiogeography at continental and global scales.
