In it, Robinson describes his experiences as an African American at the United States (U.S.) Military Academy and discusses integration in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He also describes combat experiences in Korea, the Chinese, and various commanders. He details his time with the 503rd and 504th Infantry Regiments and discusses the 82nd Airborne Division. Robinson recounts some of his time as a commander in Vietnam and then in Japan. He recalls how race was handled in Japan. According to Robinson, the positions of deputy chief of staff for operations and military representative to the U.S. North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Military Committee are both unique. He discusses the responsibilities of those jobs, his thoughts on them, and the political issues involved.
