Book Optimizing Wireless Communication Systems

Download or read book Optimizing Wireless Communication Systems written by Francisco Rodrigo Porto Cavalcanti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-07-31 with total page 542 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 2000, GTEL (Wireless Telecommunications Research Group) at the F- eral University of Ceara ́ was founded by Professor Rodrigo Cavalcanti and his c- leagues with the mission of developing wireless communications technology and impact the development of the Brazilian telecommunications sector. From the start, this research effort has been supported by Ericsson Research providing a dynamic environment where academia and industry together can address timely and relevant research challenges. This book summarized much of the research output that has resulted from GTEL’s efforts. It provides a comprehensive treatment of the physical and multiple access layers in mobile communication systems describing different generations of systems but with a focus on 3G systems. The team of Professor C- alcanti has contributed scienti cally to the development of this eld and built up an impressive expertise. In the chapters that follow, they share their views and kno- edge on the underlying principles and technical trade-offs when designing the air interface of 3G systems. The complexity of 3G systems and the interaction between the physical and m- tiple access layers present a tremendous challenge when modeling, designing, and analyzing the mobile communication system. Herein, the authors tackle this pr- lem in an impressive manner. Their work is very much in line with the developments in 3GPP providing a deeper understanding of the evolution of 3G and also future enhancements.

Book MIMO Transceiver Design Via Majorization Theory

Download or read book MIMO Transceiver Design Via Majorization Theory written by Daniel P. Palomar and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels provide an abstract and unified representation of different physical communication systems, ranging from multi-antenna wireless channels to wireless digital subscriber line (DSL) systems. They have the key property that several data streams can be simultaneously established. MIMO Transceiver Design via Majorization Theory presents an up-to-date unified mathematical framework for the design of point-to-point MIMO transceivers with channel state information (CSI) at both sides of the link according to an arbitrary cost function as a measure of the system performance. In addition, the framework embraces the design of systems with given individual performance on the data streams. MIMO Transceiver Design via Majorization Theory is an invaluable resource for researchers and practitioners involved in the state-of-the-art design of MIMO-based communication systems.

Book Analysis and Transceiver Design for the MIMO Broadcast Channel

Download or read book Analysis and Transceiver Design for the MIMO Broadcast Channel written by Raphael Hunger and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-29 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with the optimization-based joint design of the transmit and receive filters in MIMO broadcast channel in which the user terminals may be equipped with several antenna elements. Furthermore, the maximum performance of the system in the high power regime as well as the set of all feasible quality-of-service requirements is analyzed. First, a fundamental duality is derived that holds between the MIMO broadcast channel and virtual MIMO multiple access channel. This duality construct allows for the efficient solution of problems originally posed in the broadcast channel in the dual domain where a possibly hidden convexity can often be revealed. On the basis of the established duality result, the gradient-projection algorithm is introduced as a tool to solve constrained optimization problems to global optimality under certain conditions. The gradient-projection tool is then applied to solving the weighted sum rate maximization problem which is a central optimization that arises in any network utility maximization. In the high power regime, a simple characterization of the obtained performance becomes possible due to the fact that the weighted sum rate utility converges to an affine asymptote in the logarithmic power domain. We find closed form expressions for these asymptotes which allows for a quantification of the asymptotic rate loss that linear transceivers have to face with respect to dirty paper coding. In the last part, we answer the fundamental question of feasibility in quality-of-service based optimizations with inelastic traffic that features strict delay constraints. Under the assumption of linear transceivers, not every set of quality-of-service requirements might be feasible making the power minimization problem with given lower bound constraints on the rate for example infeasible in these cases. We derive a complete description of the quality-of-service feasibility region for arbitrary channel matrices.

Book Multi antenna Transceiver Techniques for 3G and Beyond

Download or read book Multi antenna Transceiver Techniques for 3G and Beyond written by Ari Hottinen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-08-13 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multi-antenna techniques are widely considered to be the most promising avenue for significantly increasing the bandwidth efficiency of wireless data transmission systems. In so called MIMO (multiple input multiple output) systems, multiple antennas are deployed both at the transmitter and the receiver. In MISO (multiple input single output) systems, the receiver has only one antenna, and the multiple transmit antennas are used for transmit diversity. The key aspects of multiple antenna transceiver techniques for evolving 3G systems and beyond are presented. MIMO and MISO (transmit diversity) techniques are explained in a common setting. In particular, the book covers linear processing transmit diversity methods with and without side information at the transmitter (feedback), including the current transmit diversity concepts in the WCDMA standards, as well as promising MIMO concepts, crucial for future high data rate systems. As an example, MIMO and MISO aspects of 3GPP HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access) will be considered. Furthermore, examples of high throughput, low complexity space-time codes will be provided, when signalling without side information (open loop concepts). The theory of linear space-time block codes will be developed, and optimal non-orthogonal high throughput codes will be constructed, both for MIMO and MISO systems. Performance may be further improved by feedback from receiver to transmitter. The corresponding closed loop modes in the current 3GPP specifications will be discussed, along with their extensions for more than two transmit antennas. In addition, feedback signalling for MIMO channels will be addressed. Optimal quantisation methods of the feedback messages will be discussed. Finally, hybrid schemes are constructed, where the amount of feedback is reduced using partly open, partly closed loop signalling. * Provides a concise and up-to-date description of perhaps the most active area of research in wireless communications * Unique in presenting recent developments in both WCDMA and MIMO * MIMO and MISO techniques are explained in a common setting * Special emphasis is placed on combining theoretical understanding with engineering applicability For Research engineers in academia and industry, and development engineers in 3G system design as well as research students.
