Book Artificial Intelligence In Highway Location And Alignment Optimization Applications Of Genetic Algorithms In Searching Evaluating And Optimizing Highway Location And Alignments

Download or read book Artificial Intelligence In Highway Location And Alignment Optimization Applications Of Genetic Algorithms In Searching Evaluating And Optimizing Highway Location And Alignments written by Min-wook Kang and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-08-14 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph provides a comprehensive overview of methods for searching, evaluating, and optimizing highway location and alignments using genetic algorithms (GAs), a powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique. It presents a two-level programming structure to deal with the effects of varying highway location on traffic level changes in surrounding road networks within the highway location search and alignment optimization process. In addition, the proposed method evaluates environmental impacts as well as all relevant highway costs associated with its construction, operation, and maintenance. The monograph first covers various search methods, relevant cost functions, constraints, computational efficiency, and solution quality issues arising from optimizing the highway alignment optimization (HAO) problem. It then focuses on applications of a special-purpose GA in the HAO problem where numerous highway alignments are generated and evaluated, and finally the best ones are selected based on costs, traffic impacts, safety, energy, and environmental considerations. A review of other promising optimization methods for the HAO problem is also provided in this monograph.

Book The Highway Design and Maintenance Standards Model User s manual for the HDM III model

Download or read book The Highway Design and Maintenance Standards Model User s manual for the HDM III model written by Thawat Watanatada and published by Johns Hopkins University Press. This book was released on 1987 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes the Highway Design and Maintenance Standards model (HDM-III) and its constituent components and provides a comprehensive discussion of the submodels, their interaction, and the operational parameters involved. The HDM-III is designed to make comparative cost estimates and economic evaluations of different construction and maintenance options, including different time-staging strategies, either for a given road project on a specific alignment or for groups of links on an entire network. The user can search for the alternative with the lowest discounted total cost and can call for rates of return, net present values, or first-year benefits. If the HDM is used in conjunction with the Expenditure Budgeting Model, the set of design and maintenance options that would minimize total discounted transport costs or maximize net present value of an entire highway system under year-to-year budget constraints can be determined. The HDM-III model is not only a readily usable program for handling voluminous computations automatically, it is also a repository of the most extensive and consistent set of empirical data on the subject. The information includes the qualitative structure and quantitative parameters of relationships among construction standards, maintenance, traffic characteristics, road deterioration, and vehicle operating costs.

Book Pavement Management Methodologies to Select Projects and Recommend Preservation Treatments

Download or read book Pavement Management Methodologies to Select Projects and Recommend Preservation Treatments written by Kathryn A. Zimmerman and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 1995 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This synthesis will be of interest to highway administrators; pavement management system (PMS), maintenance, and computer engineers; and technologists involved with data collection and computer programming for the purposes of a PMS. This synthesis describes the state of the practice with respect to pavement management methodologies to select projects and recommend preservation treatments. This report of the Transportation Research Board also describes the predominant pavement management methodologies being used by U.S. state and Canadian provincial transportation agencies; provides a general description of each methodology; and summarizes the requirements, benefits, hindrances, and constraints associated with each. It includes a review of domestic literature and a survey of current practices in North America. In addition, case studies are included to illustrate the use of these methodologies within transportation agencies. Operational and soon-to-be implemented technologies are also discussed, and an extensive bibliography is provided for further reference.

Book User and Non user Benefit Analysis for Highways

Download or read book User and Non user Benefit Analysis for Highways written by and published by American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document updates and expands the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) User Benefit Analysis for Highways, also known as the Red Book. This AASHTO publication helps state and local transportation planning authorities evaluate the economic benefits of highway improvements. This update incorporates improvements in user-benefit calculation methods and, for the first time, provides guidance for evaluating important non-user impacts of highways. Previous editions of the Red Book provided guidance regarding user benefit measurement only. This update provides a framework for project evaluations that accurately account for both user and non-user benefits. The manual and accompanying CD-ROM provide a valuable resource for people who analyze the benefits and costs of highway projects.
