Techniques and equipment which represent the current state-of-the-art and which are suitable for obtaining quantitative and objective measurements of the various aspects of optical quality in a production process have been identified. A draft specification for optical quality germanium is included. Personnel of the Frankford Arsenal optical shop were interviewed to document the equipment, material and procedures which are currently in use at Frankford Arsenal for the fabrication of germanium lenses.
