Book Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications

Download or read book Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications written by Colin Campbell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface Acoustic Wave Devices and Their Signal Processing Applications is a textbook that combines experiment and theory in assessing the signal processing applications of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices. The operating principles of SAW devices are described from a circuit design viewpoint. This book is comprised of 18 chapters and begins with a historical background on surface acoustic waves and a discussion on the merits of SAW devices as well as their applications. The next chapter introduces the reader to the basics of acoustic waves and piezoelectricity, together with the effect of acoustic bulk waves on the performance of SAW filters. The principles of linear phase SAW filter design and equivalent circuit models for a SAW filter are then described. The remaining chapters focus on trade-offs in linear phase SAW filter design; compensation for second-order effects; harmonic SAW delay lines for gigahertz frequencies; and coding techniques using linear SAW transducers. The final chapter highlights Some other significant alternative design techniques and applications for SAW devices. This monograph will be suitable for engineering or physics students as well as engineers, scientists, and technical staff in industry who seek further information on SAW-based circuits, systems, and applications.

Book Optical Signal Processing

Download or read book Optical Signal Processing written by Pankaj K. Das and published by Springer. This book was released on 2011-12-29 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject "optical signal processing" can and should include all aspects of optics and signal processing. However, that is too large a scope for a textbook that, like this one, is intended as an introduc tion to the subject at a level suitable for first year graduate students of electrical engineering, physics, and optical engineering. There fore, the subject matter has been restricted. The book begins with basic background material on optics, signal processing, matrix alge bra, ultrasound and SAWs, and CCDs. One might argue about this choice of topics. For example, there already exist very good books on matrix algebra. However, matrix algebra is so important in sig nal processing, especially in connection with devices such as optical matrix processors, that it was felt that a review was essential. Also, the matrix algebra needed for systolic arrays and parallel computing has made great advances in recent years. My original intention was to write a single-volume textbook cov ering most of the fundamental concepts and applications of optical signal processing. However, it soon became apparent that the large amount of material to be included would make publication in a single volume impracticable. Therefore this volume treats the "fundamen tals" and a second volume will appear dealing with devices and applications. This textbook was stimulated by a set of short courses that I have directed and lectured since 1976, as well as regular courses that I have taught at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute since 1974.

Book Digital Coherent Optical Systems

Download or read book Digital Coherent Optical Systems written by Darli Augusto de Arruda Mello and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-08 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook details the architecture of a digital coherent optical system and describes its main digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms. The authors first show how the combination of advanced modulation techniques, DSP and coherent detection has led to significant gains in capacity and ease of operation. The authors follow the path of the information from its generation in the transmitter, to propagation through the fiber and processing by the DSP algorithms in the receiver. The work summarizes academic results and presents them in a didactic way to students and practitioners working on the area of optical communications. A full suite of classroom materials is included for easy integration into a curriculum, containing theoretic and simulation problems, and off-the-shelf Matlab/Octave functions.

Book All Optical Signal Processing

Download or read book All Optical Signal Processing written by Stefan Wabnitz and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the state-of-the art of optical signal processing technologies and devices. It presents breakthrough solutions for enabling a pervasive use of optics in data communication and signal storage applications. It presents presents optical signal processing as solution to overcome the capacity crunch in communication networks. The book content ranges from the development of innovative materials and devices, such as graphene and slow light structures, to the use of nonlinear optics for secure quantum information processing and overcoming the classical Shannon limit on channel capacity and microwave signal processing. Although it holds the promise for a substantial speed improvement, today's communication infrastructure optics remains largely confined to the signal transport layer, as it lags behind electronics as far as signal processing is concerned. This situation will change in the near future as the tremendous growth of data traffic requires energy efficient and fully transparent all-optical networks. The book is written by leaders in the field.
