Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Very common optical coatings are those that give the faint, reflected color to the lenses in cameras, binoculars, and spectacles. The thin metal layer that makes the difference between a mirror and a simple sheet of glass is an optical coating. But, optical coatings are used in many more applications-a particularly important current one being the s

Book Handbook of Optical Properties

Download or read book Handbook of Optical Properties written by Rolf E. Hummel and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1995-02-24 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thin Films for Optical Coating emphasizes the applications of thin films, deposition of thin films, and thin film characterization. Unlike monographs on this subject, this book presents the views of many expert authors. Individual chapters span a wide arc of topics within this field of study. The book offers an introduction to usual and unusual applications of optical thin films, treating in a more qualitative way general topics such as anticounterfeiting coatings, decorative coatings, light switches, contrast enhancement coatings, multiplexers, optical memories, and more. Contributors review thin film media for optical data storage, UV broadband and narrow-band filters, and optically active thin film coatings. Ion beam sputtering and magnetron sputtering deposition methods are described in detail. Characterization techniques are provided, including Raman spectroscopy and absorption measurements. The book also offers theories on light scattering of thin dielectric films and the electromagnetic properties of nanocermet thin films. This reference incorporates recent research by the individual authors with their views of current developments in their respective fields. Of particular interest to the reader will be an assessment of the historical developments of thin film physics written by one of the fathers of thin film technology, Professor M. Auwärter.

Book Optical and Structural Properties of Europium Doped Silicon Oxide Thin Films

Download or read book Optical and Structural Properties of Europium Doped Silicon Oxide Thin Films written by Rashin Basiri Namin and published by . This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rare earth doping is one of the main approaches to enhance the optical properties of silicon-based materials. In this work, a set of europium doped silicon oxide (Eu[subscript x]Si[subscript y]O[subscript z]) thin films are fabricated using an integrated magnetron sputtering electron cyclotron resonance plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (IMS-ECR-PECVD) system. The thin film composition was studied by Rutherford backscattering spectrometry (RBS) and elastic recoil detection (ERD) measurements verifying high control over the Eu content by changing the sputtering power. Variable Angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE) was conducted, delivering the refractive index and thickness. Using a UV laser (325 nm) excitation source, Photoluminescence (PL) measurements were performed, and it was confirmed that Eu[superscript 3+] transition which is associated with the red light emission is successfully achieved even at annealing temperatures as low as 300°C. Performing X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the structural properties of the thin films were studied and the formation of Eu[subscript x]Si[subscript y]O[subscript z] crystals was confirmed for the samples annealed at elevated temperatures.

Download or read book Physics of Thin Films written by Georg Hass and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Physics of Thin Films: Advances in Research and Development, Volume 12 reviews advances that have been made in research and development concerning the physics of thin films. This volume covers a wide range of preparative approaches, physics phenomena, and applications related to thin films. This book is comprised of four chapters and begins with a discussion on metal coatings and protective layers for front surface mirrors used at various angles of incidence from the ultraviolet to the far infrared. Thin-film materials and deposition conditions suitable for minimizing reflectance changes with angle of incidence are described, along with novel oxide protective coatings with enhanced chemical stability and mechanical durability. The next chapter offers a comprehensive treatment of photoemissive materials. After giving a rather detailed review of the physics of photoemission, the main classes of thin-film photoemitters, including Ag-O-Cs, alkali antimonides, and negative-electron affinity photocathodes, are considered. A description of field-assisted cathodes potentially suitable for wavelengths beyond 1.1 micrometers, such as transferred-electron structures and field-emission arrays, is also given. The reader is then introduced to spray pyrolysis and the solution growth technique for chemical solution deposition of inorganic films. This text concludes with a chapter on plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition of thin films, paying particular attention to the experimental conditions required for a range of element and compound materials as well as some of the unusual film properties and structures achieved by this approach. This monograph will be useful to students and practitioners of physics, especially those interested in thin films.
