This book was released on 2021 with total page 29 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries, monitors annual escapements of salmon returning to the Situk River system near Yakutat, Alaska. A weir in the lower river provides the primary mode of enumeration for sockeye Oncorhynchus nerka and Chinook O. tshawytscha salmon escapements into the Situk River. Information provided by this project is used inseason to manage the Situk-Ahrnklin Inlet commercial set gillnet fishery and the inriver sport fisheries to ensure escapement goals are met and to maximize and sustain the harvest of salmon from the Situk River. A two-person crew will enumerate all species of salmon through the Situk River weir and sample adult sockeye and Chinook salmon for biological characteristics (age, sex, and length). This report provides operational guidelines for the Situk River adult salmon weir project, including salmon enumeration, sampling procedures, and weir protocols.

Book excerpt: This operational plan outlines objectives, methods, and timelines for operation of two fish wheels in the lower Chilkat River. The fish wheels provide indices of inriver abundance of sockeye (Oncorhynchus nerka) and chum (O. keta) salmon populations, which are used inseason to manage the District 15 commercial drift gillnet fishery in Lynn Canal. In addition, the fish wheels provide sampling platforms essential for stock assessment of both Chinook (O. tshawytscha), and coho (O. kisutch) salmon (covered in detail in separate operational plans.)

Book Operational Plan

Book excerpt: The Chilkat Lake sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) run, which spawns near Haines, is one of the largest in Southeast Alaska and contributes substantially to harvests in the District 15 commercial drift gillnet fishery in Lynn Canal. This operational plan outlines objectives, methods, and timelines for conducting sockeye salmon stock assessment designed to (1) estimate annual escapement, (2) provide information for inseason fishery management, and (3) reconstruct runs and assess stock status. The Chilkat Lake sockeye salmon run is managed for a biological escapement goal of 70,000–150,000 fish, which is enumerated with a Dual-Frequency Identification Sonar (DIDSON) system operated in conjunction with a standard picket weir located just downstream of the lake outlet. Genetic mixed stock analysis of weekly sockeye salmon harvests in the District 15 commercial drift gillnet fishery provides stock composition estimates that guide inseason management of the fishery (detailed in a separate Chilkoot Lake sockeye salmon operational plan). Biological sampling, along with escapement enumeration and stock-specific harvest data, allows for total run reconstruction required for escapement goal review. This project also supports the collection of basic limnology information at Chilkat Lake.

Book Alaska Peninsula Salmon Enumeration and Escapement Sampling Procedures 2023 2025

Download or read book Alaska Peninsula Salmon Enumeration and Escapement Sampling Procedures 2023 2025 written by William S. Middleton and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Alaska Peninsula Management Area (Area M), weirs are a primary mode of enumeration for sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka escapements into some area streams. Annually, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) samples adult sockeye salmon escapements at the Nelson, Bear, Sandy, Ilnik, and Orzinski rivers, and McLees Lake for age, sex, and length (ASL) data. Out-migrating juvenile sockeye salmon (smolt) are also sampled for age, weight, and length (AWL) at Nelson, Bear, and Orzinski river weirs. The biological information collected from salmon escapements provide the foundation for preseason run forecasts, escapement goal evaluation, and accurate assignment of the run to stock-of-origin (run reconstruction) to some Alaska Peninsula systems. The use of this data assists with long-term management of sockeye salmon stocks while daily monitoring of the sockeye salmon escapements helps ensure that escapement goals are met. Operation guidelines for the six Area M ADF&G weir camps are presented, including weir installation instructions, salmon enumeration and sampling procedures, and general camp policies.

This book was released on 2020 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Chignik Management Area (Area L), the Chignik weir is the primary mode of enumeration for sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka into the Chignik River. Annually, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) samples salmon escapement at the Chignik weir for age, sex, and length (ASL) data. The biological information collected from salmon escapements provide the foundation for preseason run forecasts, escapement goal evaluation, and run reconstruction. Every week throughout the season, 240 sockeye salmon are sampled. Sockeye salmon scales are collected using established protocols common to the Westward Region.

Book Chignik River System Sockeye Salmon Smolt Sampling Project Operational Plan 2020 2022

Download or read book Chignik River System Sockeye Salmon Smolt Sampling Project Operational Plan 2020 2022 written by Matthew Olson and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This operational plan describes the procedures for the sockeye salmon Oncorhynchus nerka smolt sampling project conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) in the Chignik River system. The project goal is to evaluate and document size and abundance trends of sockeye salmon smolt in the Chignik River system to understand rearing capacity and habitat use. The research is designed to assess age structure, fish body condition, and provide additional context for the adult sockeye salmon forecast. Age structure of the population will be estimated from scales of sockeye salmon smolt collected using a beach seine. Juvenile salmon habitat use will be examined by beach seining in near-shore marine environment. Findings from this project are vital for understanding effects of the commercial fishery and environmental changes occurring in the Chignik River system on the sockeye salmon population.

Book excerpt: DEDICATED TO THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN BOARD LEADERSIn 2018, California passed a senate bill (SB 826) to require publicly held companies headquartered in CA to have at least one woman on their board by 2020. In 2020, Nasdaq proposed a mandate that would require listed companies to have at least two diverse board members with one member who identifies as female. Initiatives like these are helping advance gender parity on boards in many regions, not just the U.S. In late 2020, women held 22.6% of the board seats on the Russell 3000 for the first time, a 6.5 point jump over the past 4 years.Zooming out to the global scale, the picture is similarly improving. In 2020, about 23% of board seats globally were held by women, compared to 20% in 2018. Yet...at the time of this writing, 10% of large global companies do not have a single woman on their board. And the percent of women who chair boards is dramatically smaller. Among the largest 500 public U.S. companies by revenue the share of women who chaired boards remained stagnant at 7.4%. Notably, of those women who chair boards, few of them use the term Chairwoman in their bios or LinkedIn profiles-opting for monikers Chairman, or Board Chair, or occasionally Chairperson. This book features the extraordinary voices and stories of women leaders from around the world who have trailblazed to the board room, as letters to the next generation of women in business and government. With the salutation "Dear Chairwoman," these letters are infused with the energy to inspire young women to both pursue board governance early, and to claim the 'Chairwoman' title in taking the senior-most seat in the Board Room.
