Book Yeti Or Not Here We Come

Download or read book Yeti Or Not Here We Come written by Robert Leiterman and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2003 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Could the legendary Bigfoot exist among the ancient redwoods and rugged terrain of California s Eel River Valley? Little is known of the Sinkyone people who once called those majestic forests their home. With their passing went their knowledge of their mythical legends, sacred location and unspoken areas to be left alone, lost forever or were they? Generations of park rangers have sworn to protect one of the largest remaining groves of ancient coast redwoods. Since the park dedication, there has been at least one Bigfoot related report a year. For the most part, they were never taken very serious, written off as misidentified wildlife, or an over active imagination brought on by the aura of an ancient forest and even a self fulfilling prophecy for those who really want to believe. For one skeptical ranger, they were nothing more than entertaining folklore and myths. That all changed one-day after a series of Bigfoot related reports were brought to his attention. During his search for answers, he discovered that there was more to the redwoods then he ever imagined and found himself down a path that would forever change his way of thinking.

Book 32 64 Bit 80x86 Assembly Language Architecture

Book The Oxford Handbook of Ecocriticism

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Ecocriticism written by Greg Garrard and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2014-07-03 with total page 601 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oxford Handbook of Ecocriticism provides a broad survey of the longstanding relationship between literature and the environment. The moment for such an offering is opportune in many respects: multiple environmental crises are increasingly inescapable at both transnational and local levels; the role of the humanities in addition to technology and politics is increasingly recognized as central for exploring and finding solutions; and the subject of ecocriticism has reached a kind of critical mass, both within its Anglo-American heartlands and beyond. From its origins in the study of American Nature Writing and British Romanticism, ecocriticism has developed along numerous theoretical, historical, cultural and geographical axes, the most contemporary and exciting of which will be represented in the Handbook. The contributors include eminent founders of the field, including Michael Branch and Richard Kerridge, a number of key 'second-wave' ecocritics, and the best up-and-coming scholars. Topics covered include: Renaissance anxieties about nature; the challenges of representing climate change; the racialization of the environment in the early 20th century; language and the concept of biosemiotics; and the possibilities for environmental humour.

Book The Logic of Sufficiency

Download or read book The Logic of Sufficiency written by Thomas Princen and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2005-09-30 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What if modern society put a priority on the material security of its citizens and the ecological integrity of its resource base? What if it took ecological constraint as a given, not a hindrance but a source of long-term economic security? How would it organize itself, structure its industry, shape its consumption? Across time and across cultures, people actually have adapted to ecological constraint. They have changed behavior; they have built institutions. And they have developed norms and principles for their time. Today's environmental challenges—at once global, technological, and commercial—require new behaviors, new institutions, and new principles. In this highly original work, Thomas Princen builds one such principle: sufficiency. Sufficiency is not about denial, not about sacrifice or doing without. Rather, when resource depletion and overconsumption are real, sufficiency is about doing well. It is about good work and good governance; it is about goods that are good only to a point. With examples ranging from timbering and fishing to automobility and meat production, Princen shows that sufficiency is perfectly sensible and yet absolutely contrary to modern society's dominant principle, efficiency. He argues that seeking enough when more is possible is both intuitive and rational—personally, organizationally and ecologically rational. And under global ecological constraint, it is ethical. Over the long term, an economy—indeed a society—cannot operate as if there's never enough and never too much.
