Book excerpt: The 6th InternationalConference on Cooperative Design, Visualization and - gineering CDVE 2009 was held in central Europe - Luxembourg. Participants from ?ve continents came together to celebrate this annual event. Thepaperspublishedintheconferenceinthisvolumere?ectthenewprogress in the following aspect. Research in developing cooperative applications is currently focusing on two directions. One is the cooperation in the software development process and the other is the variety of the targeted cooperative software products. Many papers address how to facilitate cooperation in the software engineering process p- ticularly global software engineering. The importance of sharing information in cooperation is emphasized by the authors. For example, papers that addressed the developmentof sharing mental models, tools for easilyshared projects,sh- ing links for cross-media information spaces, sharing resources and transfer of knowledge among team members etc. have attracted special attention. Many papers presented in this volume are the research results of tackling problems in developing a great variety of cooperative software products. The targeted systems are cooperative support for music creation, cooperative process m- agement systems, cooperative visualization systems for geographic information, cooperative cultural information sharing platforms, cooperative reasoning s- tems, cooperative sensor networks for environment monitoring, remote coop- ative video vehicle monitoring systems etc. Another aspect of the papers in this volume is dealing with the problems in ?ner phases in the cooperative product production life cycle. The topics addressed range from partner selection for - operation at the beginning, requirement gathering, requirement negotiation, to cooperativedesign, production to cooperative testing, and ?nally to cooperative system operation.

Book Safety Theory and Control Technology of High Speed Train Operation

Download or read book Safety Theory and Control Technology of High Speed Train Operation written by Junfeng Wang and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Safety Theory and Technology of High-Speed Train Operation puts forward solutions for train dispatching and signal control. Frequent railway incidents have threatened the safety of rail transport. In 2013, more than 12 trains collided. In the same year, a Spanish train derailed due to speed, and two of China’s high-speed trains collided. In 2016, Germany and Italy both experienced serious train collisions. Global railway security is essential. Many accidents are caused by train dispatching errors and signal system failure. Chinese high-speed railway has developed very quickly and at a very large scale. However, many issues reagrding safety has not been addressed. This book considers the issue from the perspective of a system. A train operation control system structure is put forward in order to ensure safety. Five key technologies (namely system-level fail-safe, parallel monitoring, completeness of train control data, data sharing and fusion and prevention of common errors in monitoring), are proposed. In order to prevent collision, over-speed, derailment, and rear-end collision accidents, the concept and corresponding parallel monitoring technology of five core control items (train route, speed, tracking interval, temporary speed limit, train running state) is proposed. Puts forward solutions for train dispatching and signal control Views high-speed train safety and technology from a systems-theory perspective Describes five key technologies to ensure safety Proposes five parallel monitoring technologies to prevent collision, over-speed, derailment and rear-end collision incidents Considers the very quick and large-scale development of Chinese high-speed rail

Book Attending Daedalus

Download or read book Attending Daedalus written by Peter Wright and published by Liverpool University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new study of the fiction of Gene Wolfe, one of the most influential contemporary American science fiction writers, offers a major reinterpretation of Gene Wolfe’s four-volume The Book of the New Sun and its sequel The Urth of the New Sun. After exposing the concealed story at the heart of Wolfe’s magnum opus, Wright adopts a variety of approaches to establish that Wolfe is the designer of an intricate textual labyrinth intended to extend his thematic preoccupations with subjectivity, the unreliability of memory, the manipulation of individuals by social and political systems, and the psychological potency of myth, faith and symbolism into the reading experience.
