This book was released on 1989 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The contract was divided into eight programs: alternative fuels/in-house research and development; flue gas cleanup research and development; advanced research and technology development; analytical chemistry support; advanced combustion technology; coal preparation support; continuous hydrotreaters, co-processing/coal liquids upgrading; and methane activation. These programs developed as a result of various changes made to the original eight programs. (1) A new task order, entitled Evaluation of Combined SO2/NO2 Removal Processes (NOXSO), was added to the Flue Gas Cleanup Research and Development Program as part of the new contract. (2) Mechanics of Ash Deposition was developed into Advanced Research and Technology Development, which still included operation of a laser diagnostics laboratory for other test programs, and a drop tube furnace. (3) Coal Preparation Laboratory Support was concluded during this contract, and development of a coal preparation process research facility was initiated. (4) Molten Caustic Leached Coal research was concluded on April 1, 1988, and subsequently was eliminated from the contract. (5) Methane Activation research was added as a new task order. (6) On September 1, 1988, new task orders were issued which affected budget reporting but not the scope of work.

This book was released on with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four No. 6 and a 40% coal oil mixture test were run to provide check tests for the parametric test program in the 700 H.P. Combustion Test Facility, which officially completed this test series. The 500 hour endurance test was run without any unscheduled shut downs except to remove an excessive amount of ash which restricted heated gases from entering the convection section of the boiler after 370 hours of operations. During these tests, measurements were made inside the 700 H.P. boiler and at the stack to assess the performance of the combustor. The boiler was instrumented to permit detailed heat balances, emission measurements and flame characterizations. The particulate level in the stack was monitored using isokinetic stack samples and was compared to opacity data obtained from the transmissometer. The size distribution of the particulate matter in the stack was monitored by a cascade impactor. The average emissivity of the flame was determined using various targets and optical pyrometers. The boiler operated almost flawlessly during the 500 hours endurance test. It was necessary to change the burner nozzle every 8 hours to prevent nozzle plugging effecting combustion. Nozzle wear was evident throughout the test until TUNGSTEN CARBIDE inserts were tried during the last 40 hours of testing.

This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Management and Technical Services Co./ General Electric was awarded the contract to operate, modify and maintain the DOE/PETC 700 hp, 100 hp, and 20 hp Combustion Test Facility. These facilities were designed and built by the Department of Energy at Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center and its ultimate success is the responsibility of DOE/PETC. MATSCO/GE will provide support to assist in the goal of successful operation of this pilot plant facility. The primary objective of the DOE/PETC 700 hp and 100 hp CTF is to establish the practicality of coal oil slurry combustion as a technically, economically and environmentally feasible retrofit technology. The 20 hp CTF is to provide a test bed to evaluate synthetic fuels for its technical feasibility and its effect on the environment. Four series of combustion tests were completed. Coal-oil mixes for all tests were number 6 fuel oil and Pittsburgh Seam Coal. The tests were executed successfully. Operational problems were handled as required without excessive delay of the testing program. Additional studies performed concurrently with the combustion testing included flame studies, stack emissions studies during all tests, standard measurements of equipment wear after each test series and extensive erosion and corrosion analyses of boiler test coupons and the burner section of the fuel train after the 500 h endurance test. Testing activity and required facility modifications were coordinated through Department of Energy personnel.

Book Power Systems Development Facility Quarterly Technical Progress Report January 1 March 31 1993

Download or read book Power Systems Development Facility Quarterly Technical Progress Report January 1 March 31 1993 written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The conceptual design of the facility was extended to include a within scope, phased expansion of the existing Hot Gas Cleanup Test Facility Cooperative Agreement to also address systems integration issues of hot particulate removal in advanced coal-based power generation systems. This expansion included the consideration of the following modules at the test facility in addition to the existing Transport Reactor gas source and Hot Gas Cleanup Units: 1. Carbonizer/Pressurized Circulating Fluidized Bed Gas Source. 2. Hot Gas Cleanup Units to mate to all gas streams. 3. Combustion Gas Turbine. 4. Fuel Cell and associated gas treatment. This expansion to the Hot Gas Cleanup Test Facility is herein referred to as the Power Systems Development Facility (PSDF). The major emphasis during this reporting period was continuing the detailed design of the facility, finalizing the selection for the Carbonizer/Transport and the circulating pressurized fluidized-bed combustor (CPFBC) particulate control devices (PCDs), drafting the air permit for the facility and continue the installation of the transport reactor development unit (TRDU). The detailed design of the PSDF continued to refine interface points to streamline the design of the facility.

This book was released on 1994 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This quarterly technical progress report summarizes work completed during the last quarter of the Second Budget Period, January 1 through March 31, 1994, entitled {open_quotes}Hot Gas Cleanup Test Facility for Gasification and Pressurized Combustion.{close_quotes} The objective of this project is to evaluate hot gas particulate control technologies using coal-derived gas streams. This will entail the design, construction, installation, and use of a flexible test facility which can operate under realistic gasification and combustion conditions. The major particulate control device issues to be addressed include the integration of the particulate control devices into coal utilization systems, on-line cleaning techniques, chemical and thermal degradation of components, fatigue or structural failures, blinding, collection efficiency as a function of particle size, and scale-up of particulate control systems to commercial size.
