De onderwerpen van het boek zijn vrouwen die ik ken. Het is geen geval van puur toeval maar pure intentie. Er is geen onderzoek naar het boek gedaan, tenzij je nadenkt over geklets over drankjes, interlokale telefoongesprekken of waterkoelers, dus. Staat u mij toe, ik wil een paar (meer) minuten praten over vrouw zijn, net voordat ik afmeld. Ik ben verliefd op mijn bestaan en ik zal mijn positie met niemand, een collega-vriendin of een mannelijke vriend ruilen. Ben ik dankbaar? Oh ja. Ben ik uitgeput? Ja. Ben ik wijzer? Nee. Ik weet niet wat ik moet zeggen tegen vrouwen die naar the toe lopen in de veronderstelling dat ik het beter weet. Ben ik klaar om op te geven? Nee. Om lief te hebben, voor ons. Aan alle vrouwen die ik kende, ken en zal weten.

Nonetheless, it has always been evident that the key to Revelations lies within the pages of the Holy Scriptures. With this notion in mind, The Book For Our Time! – a translation of the original manuscript published in 1872 – was written in order to research and understand along with readers, to find the true end and fulfilment of Revelation and, in so doing, bring a sense of purpose to those who read it. Willy Louis Jeanne De Smedt (8/2/1931 – 25/8/2017) Born in Belgium, he moved with his parents to the Democratic Republic of the Congo where he attended a Catholic School. Always serious about religion, he wished to become a priest but eventually decided not to pursue his dream. After moving to South Africa where he qualified as a millwright at Iscor, Willy started working as a math teacher at the Military Technical College. During a service in the New Apostolic Church, Willy heard and learned about the Day of The First Resurrection. That’s when the project of The Book For Our time! started to take form; from his desire to inform people about the salvation plan of God. He died in 2017, due to Leukemia.

For Colard, the term Congoville encompasses the tangible and intangible urban traces of the colony, not on the African continent but in 21st-century Belgium: a school building, a park, imperial myths, and citizens of African descent. In the exhibition and this adjoining publication, the concept Congoville is the starting point for 15 contemporary artists to address colonial history and ponder its aftereffects as black flâneurs walking through a postcolonial city. Due to the multitude of perspectives and voices, this book is both a catalogue and a reference work comprised of artistic and academic contributions. Together, the participating artists and invited authors unfold the blueprint of Congoville, an imaginary city that still subconsciously affects us, but also encourages us to envision a decolonial utopia.
