Book If You Can t Be Better Than an N Word Then Who Can You Be Better Than

Download or read book If You Can t Be Better Than an N Word Then Who Can You Be Better Than written by Thomas Sass and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2012-11 with total page 716 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: America's elites utilize the divide-and-conquer strategy, and with African Americans, they have found their first target. Centuries of brainwashing have instilled a superiority high in many whites and at the same time placed blacks in less-than positions. I intend to show to what extent Apartheidism and the "less-than" culture affect blacks in several different environments, such as how the criminal "justice" system is used to marginalize and criminalize blacks at rates disproportionate to their population. Even the sports world can be more problematic for blacks than for non-blacks. I will present people and events that will show the double standards society has been led to not only accept but to expect, and just how easily we seem to have been manipulated. Most, and perhaps none of which could have been so relatively easily accomplished if the "drug" of superiority did not cloud our perceptions.

Book For Your Eyes Only

Download or read book For Your Eyes Only written by Andrea Heitzman and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2011-05-31 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Getting older is just a state of mind; the body just doesn't know it yet. In For Your Eyes Only, author Andrea Heitzman takes a humorous look at aging. But before she looks forward, Heitzman takes a look at her past. In this memoir, she narrates her coming-of-age story—from growing up in a Catholic family and attending Catholic schools, to being a tomboy, dating, and becoming a woman. She relives the nostalgia of the good old days, maturing, aging gracefully, and liking herself for who she is. Heitzman reflects on fond memories of family, friends, and the past. For Yours Eyes Only debunks the myth that a woman in her mid-forties should be considered old. It communicates that a woman over forty can pursue her dreams and live a fulfilling, exciting life. Heitzman shows that the secret of feeling young while growing old is within reach.

Book How Black and Working Class Children Are Deprived of Basic Education in Canada

Download or read book How Black and Working Class Children Are Deprived of Basic Education in Canada written by Bairu Sium and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-04-03 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the culmination of twenty-four years of research. It explores the thematic intersections of race, class, immigration, and the potential of building student-centered classrooms. Of course, the building of a truly student-centered is itself a slow and contested process. Over the years, progressive changes towards more inclusive education made by some governments were dismantled by others, and have left disadvantaged children where they were before the study was launched. In the meantime, the system has perfected the process of streaming minority children to dead-end courses that betray the social and economic mobility advertised to them. This book examines the moments and positions of educational betrayal in which racialized and working class students disproportionately find themselves. For many, at that point the only option is to drop out of school and engage in the drug trade or other lifestyles that put them at further risk. This is a longitudinal study of a kind with respect to reform and changes retained in education. It started with eight months observation of a split level grade five and six classroom in September 1986. That was instrumental in identifying the uphill battle that black, working class and new immigrant children and their parents were facing to secure the education they deserved. Through continued reviews, observation and follow up interviews change or lack of it was traced. The results call for urgent overhaul of the way education is provided to all children. The book ends with suggestions to effect change.

Book excerpt: Effective leadership is the necessary ingredient in achieving educational improvement in schools; everything rises and falls on leadership. For School Leaders of Color, this leadership imperative is more difficult than it is for their White counterparts. Concomitantly with this leadership necessity are the social and academic disparities of racism, student poverty, lack of resources, just to name a few. Yet these leaders have courageously accepted their role to disrupt low performance and thus they have created environments where students learn and professors teach. These leaders are “purveyors of change.” The purpose of this educational preparation supplemental text is to share stories of these exceptional leaders in the field and in the academy. The experiences shared by the various authors cover four important areas in leadership: Culture & Climate; Student Success; Resilience, Persistence, & Turnaround; and Social Justice. The authors have shared some deeply personal issues and triumphs. These are the stories that resonate more deeply with students and that with these types of stories, the theory to practice bridge is successfully crossed. While many of the chapters include narratives of resilience and triumph in the context of the P-12 education system, the overarching themes and suggestions can be transmuted to any industry.
