Book The Kingdom of God Is Within You

Download or read book The Kingdom of God Is Within You written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Standard Ebooks. This book was released on 2016-12-02T22:34:11Z with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Kingdom of God Is Within You is the most influential work of Christian anarchism. It might be considered the founding work of that tradition if it didn’t itself claim to merely be pointing out Christian anarchism as the plain meaning of the gospels. Tolstoy argues that institutional Christianity with its doctrines, church hierarchies, and ritual practices, is anti-Christian. Christ, he says, explicitly told his followers to reject doctrines, church institutions and hierarchies, and ritual practices, and instead to love truth, to honor God, and to treat all people as your family and as you would want to be treated. Tolstoy says that a Christian cannot participate in the political system, which is based on the use of violence to enforce the separation of people and the privileging of some people over others, and at the same time follow Jesus in his command to love your neighbor. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Book THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU

Download or read book THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Good Press. This book was released on 2024-01-11 with total page 463 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: "THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS WITHIN YOU (One of the Most Influential Books on Nonviolent Resistance, Christianity & Inner Fate)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. In the 1870s Tolstoy experienced a profound moral crisis, followed by what he regarded as an equally profound spiritual awakening, as outlined in his non-fiction work A Confession. His literal interpretation of the ethical teachings of Jesus, centering on the Sermon on the Mount, caused him to become a fervent Christian anarchist and pacifist. Tolstoy's ideas on nonviolent resistance, expressed in such works as The Kingdom of God Is Within You, were to have a profound impact on such pivotal 20th-century figures as Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr., and James Bevel. In this treatise Tolstoy explains that he feels that the Church's doctrines are mistaken because they have made a "perversion" of Christ's true teaching. He then goes on to explain what those teachings are and how one can become a true Christian in this war prone world. The title of the book is taken from Luke 17:21. In the book Tolstoy speaks of the principle of nonviolent resistance when confronted by violence, as taught by Jesus Christ. When Christ says to turn the other cheek, Tolstoy asserts that Christ means to abolish violence, even the defensive kind, and to give up revenge. Tolstoy rejects the interpretation of Roman and medieval scholars who attempted to limit its scope. "How can you kill people, when it is written in God's commandment: 'Thou shalt not murder'?" Tolstoy took the viewpoint that all governments who waged war are an affront to Christian principles. Content: Introduction: Leo Tolstoy: A Short Biography "Tolstoy the Artist" and "Tolstoy the Preacher" by Ivan Panin The Kingdom of God is Within You Autobiographical: Reminiscences of Tolstoy, by His Son by Graf Ilia LvovichTolstoi My Visit to Tolstoy by Joseph Krauskopf

Book Real Men What s Happening to our Male

Download or read book Real Men What s Happening to our Male written by Greg Middleton and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book looks at the many issues men are facing in this current society. It also looks back into the patterns of the past that caused us to be where we are today. There are several key factors listed in the book that explains why males appear to be off track in understanding and achieving their defined roles as men of today. Boys are not being properly trained in order to become healthy and productive males in this new changed society. Where females seem to be improving and flourishing, males appear to be spiraling downward. Men were born to become the natural leaders and to be the heads of the human family, but with the new changes in the laws and customs of the land, men are not quite sure about their current position as it relates to the new female positions. The law is on the side of equality and equal access, but that is not what men were accustomed to over all the previous years. Males must adjust to this new female model and find their own sense of purpose and fulfillment.
