Everything was perfect until one day when it all changed. Emma's life was set on a course of heartbreak, fear, and pain. She couldn't understand how the Lord could allow her and her sister to go through so much. Even after she grew up, the pain and heartache kept coming to Emma. She asked for his forgiveness and gave her life to him. Emma didn't know God had been closing doors not meant for her and her life. She had to go through hell to fully appreciate what God was about to bless her with. In the end, Emma could see how much the Lord truly loves her and all of his children. She now understands why God closes doors not meant for us. We need to be patient and stay in faith that he is going to fulfill our destiny. "I know thy works, behold I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it, for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name" (Revelation 3:8).

Realism contains twenty spoken words that are based on real life theories. These spoken words paint the picture of life at a different angle. Nowadays, human beings are losing hope in this subject we call life. Instead of valuing its meanings we value its complications which then cause us to be complicated. Life is hard is what you hear from most people. Life is beautiful is what you hear from a few that actually take the time to value lifes meanings. Yes, life is hard and complicated, however, we need to try and understand it by observing the things in it especially us human beings. Realism is for those that want to be encouraged and view life at a different angle. As a bonus, four more spoken words are added: two in Creole and two in Spanish. Thats a total of twenty-four spoken words. Whether youre at home, work, school, or church, be entertained while gaining knowledge of the world that we are living in. Enjoy.

Download or read book Icons of Dissent written by Jeremy Prestholdt and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-07-01 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The global icon is an omnipresent but poorly understood element of mass culture. This book asks why audiences around the world have embraced particular iconic figures, how perceptions of these figures have changed, and what this tells us about transnational relations since the Cold War era. Prestholdt addresses these questions by examining one type of icon: the anti-establishment figure. As symbols that represent sentiments, ideals, or something else recognizable to a wide audience, icons of dissent have been integrated into diverse political and consumer cultures, and global audiences have reinterpreted them over time. To illustrate these points the book examines four of the most evocative and controversial figures of the past fifty years: Che Guevara, Bob Marley, Tupac Shakur, and Osama bin Laden. Each has embodied a convergence of dissent, cultural politics, and consumerism, yet popular perceptions of each reveal the dissonance between shared, global references and locally contingent interpretations. By examining four very different figures, Icons of Dissent offers new insights into global symbolic idioms, the mutability of common references, and the commodification of political sentiment in the contemporary world.

He suffered the pain of dying as a fly. He also was seeing old friends whom had died years before him. They were living a miserable life in the afterlife. He was able to see his friends dying over and over. They were getting killed in the shape of animals and insects. Somehow, he was able to see them dying as humans. If they were not dying, they were going through a lot of pain. They did so much wrong on earth that they never got a chance to meet the creator. The young hustler was able to see the mysteries and answers to questions he always had in real life. He was living as a fly in the afterlife and was attracted to the things real flies were attracted to. He often prayed and hope it was all a dream. He no longer knew the time of day or the day of the week. Everyday seemed to be the same. When he met his guardian in the new life he didn’t know if he was there to help him or make fun of him. Then he realized he only died when his guardian disappeared. He was able to see the things that others could’ve own if they lived an honest life. During this afterlife he realized that he didn’t want to die. He now realized that the life he lived wasn’t a good one. He did not want to live as an insect that was being killed every ten minutes. He didn’t want to eat dog poop forever and he was no longer wanted to see his friends die over and over. Everything was becoming too painful to watch.

Book excerpt: This ain't no Dreamgirls," Rhodessa Jones warns participants in the Medea Project, the theater program for incarcerated women that she founded and directs. Her expectations are grounded in reality, tempered, for example, by the fact that women are the fastest growing population in U.S. prisons. Still, Jones believes that by engaging incarcerated women in the process of developing and staging dramatic works based on their own stories, she can push them toward tapping into their own creativity, confronting the problems that landed them in prison, and taking control of their lives. Rena Fraden chronicles the collaborative process of transforming incarcerated women's stories into productions that incorporate Greek mythology, hip-hop music, dance, and autobiography. She captures a diverse array of voices, including those of Jones and other artists, the sheriff and prison guards, and, most vividly, the women themselves. Through compelling narrative and thoughtful commentary, Fraden investigates the Medea Project's blend of art and activism and considers its limits and possibilities for enacting social change. Rhodessa Jones is co-artistic director of the San Francisco-based performance company Cultural Odyssey and founder of the Medea Project: Theater for Incarcerated Women. An award-winning performer, she has taught at the Yale School of Drama and the New College of California.

Book excerpt: The rate of suicides is at its highest level in nearly 30 years. Suicide notes have long been thought to be valuable resources for understanding suicide motivation, but up to now the small sample sizes available have made an in-depth analysis difficult. Explaining Suicide: Patterns, Motivations, and What Notes Reveal represents a large-scale analysis of suicide motivation across multiple ages during the same time period. This was made possible via a unique dataset of all suicide notes collected by the coroner's office in southwestern Ohio 2000–2009. Based on an analysis of this dataset, the book identifies top motivations for suicide, how these differ between note writers and non-note writers, and what this can tell us about better suicide prevention. The book reveals the extent to which suicide is motivated by interpersonal violence, substance abuse, physical pain, grief, feelings of failure, and mental illness. Additionally, it discusses other risk factors, what differentiates suicide attempters from suicide completers, and lastly what might serve as protective factors toward resilience. - Analyzes 1200+ suicide cases from one coroner's office - Identifies the top motivations for suicide that are based on suicide notes - Discusses the extent to which suicides are impulsive vs. planned - Leads to a better understanding on how to prevent suicide - Emphasizes resilience factors over risk factors

Book What Happened to Johnnie Jordan

Download or read book What Happened to Johnnie Jordan written by Jennifer Toth and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2007-09-11 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On an icy night five years ago, Johnnie Jordan -- just fourteen years old -- brutally murdered his elderly foster care mother, leaving the state of Ohio shocked and outraged. He could not tell police why he did it or even how it made him feel; all he knew was that something inside him made him kill. At the time, few people predicted the swift emergence of a class of young so-called "super-predators" -- criminals like Johnnie who injure and kill without conscience, personified to the nation by the Littleton, Colorado, tragedy in 1999. In What Happened to Johnnie Jordan? acclaimed journalist Jennifer Toth, author of The Mole People and Orphans of the Living, once again takes a look at the people in our society whom we so often discard and altogether ignore. As Toth investigates Johnnie's crime and life, she unravels the mysteries of a child murderer unable to identify his emotions even after they converge in acts of fury and rage. In the course of her research, Johnnie grows dangerously into a young man who "will probably kill again," he says, "though I don't want to." Yet he also demonstrates great kindness and caring when treated as more than just a case number, when treated as a human. Through Johnnie's harrowing story, Toth examines how some children manage to overcome tragic beginnings, while others turn their pain, anger, and loss on innocents. More than a beautifully written narrative of youth gone wrong, this is the story of a child welfare system so corrupted by bureaucracy and overwhelmed with cases that many children entrusted to its care receive none at all. It is also the story of a Midwestern town struggling with blame and anger, unable to reconcile the damage done by so young an offender. From Johnnie's early years on the streets to his controversial trial and ultimate conviction, What Happened to Johnnie Jordan? is a seminal work on youth violence and how we as a society can work to curtail it. Ultimately, Toth ponders one of the most difficult and important questions on youth violence: If we can't control the way children are raised, how can we prevent them from destroying other lives as well?
