She was the sole owner of the Bernard Holdings within London and sat on a large fortune. Marriage was offered not for love, but to control her life and fortune. They would fail because Willa was too smart for that. Christmas time was always a dull affair, she was alone with just a small trusted staff in the mansion. There was no parties where she was invited, no friends to share gifts, instead she watched the merry masses outside her window and longed not to feel so alone. Until her dead husband’s best friend came home and then her world was turned upside down. He offered her, gentle touches and brought a sense of magic into her home. Could Willa trust her feelings or was this another attempt to control her using her heart as leverage? Sir Gideon Aldrich, explorer and entrepreneur came home to London to find his friend had died and now his widow was left alone. Instantly smitten by Willa he wanted to protect her especially after hearing how they talked about deceiving her and the nefarious plans that were afoot. He was charmed by her wit and intelligence while she tried to make good changes within her factories. But Gideon also wanted to see her smile, hear her laugh and watch the wariness fade from her eyes. He vowed to show her his affection though the holidays and while ensuring she was safe. Willa needed more than just love, she needed to trust, to believe that there was someone who loved her unconditionally. Willa would have that and more, because this one fine Christmas, he planned to make her, his forever.

Book excerpt: Perfectly Fine Christmas is an entertaining coming-of-age holiday fairy tale with a romantic twist that La Jill Hunt's fans are sure to enjoy. "Who says Cinderella is the only one who gets a happily ever after? Shouldn't the fairy godmother get a knight in shining armor too? After all, she's the one with all the magic." Kendall Freeman, a self-assured, full-figured seamstress and aspiring fashion designer, loves Christmas. Niya Fine, a shy, introverted, plus-size teen, is dealing with the recent loss of her mother. She's now living with her widowed grandmother, Claudia, an elitist who criticizes Niya's every move. While Kendall is working hard to make the season bright, planning Christmas parties and whipping up amazing gowns at the boutique where she works, Niya is begging her uncle Reese, the "reprobate" of the family, to spend the holidays with her at his mother's home. She hopes that will make living there a little less lonely. A twist of fate leads to a unique friendship between Kendall and Niya, and a quest to pursue a family tradition that seems impossible to achieve. Can Kendall help Niya embrace who she is and help the family rediscover the true meaning of the holiday season? Is there a possibility of finding her own true love in the process?

Book Tales of Christmas Comedy

Download or read book Tales of Christmas Comedy written by Seth Kinstle and published by Seth Kinstle. This book was released on 2020-12-20 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few short stories that include parodies of classic Christmas characters. Maybe they can find their way among the ranks of stories that fuel the Christmas spirit. Other than that they're just some crap a crazy guy wrote. Have fun and make sure to reimagine Christmas every year to keep it fresh. Unless you're old and you don't care. Chances are no one will ever care about these stories anyways. That's not being negative that's just reality. Alternatively my optimism has a point that at least I laughed at these stories. I had a good time destroying Christmas by elevating these stories to be fit for a mature audience. Who knows maybe you'll end up telling them at the bar or on Christmas morning to have a laugh. Either way I feel like they're just a funny dumpster fire.

Download or read book The Magnolia Jungle written by P. D. East and published by Pickle Partners Publishing. This book was released on 2017-04-07 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1960, this book tells of author P. D. East’s trials and tribulations as a liberal editor during the times of the civil rights movement in the Deep South. It is also the story of his struggle to find his own identity and maturity out of a confused, poverty-ridden childhood in rough country towns, which created the prelude for his growing awareness of the blight of southern hypocrisy and racial discrimination. A succinctly and well-told story. “In all, the book tends to explain, not apologize for, East’s eccentric journalism, his militant but sometimes inconsistent editorial thinking, and his refusal to retreat from terrific southern hostility, even at the danger of his and his family’s well-being. East in the end appears something of a hero and, indeed, an anomaly in these conformist times.”—Kirkus Review

Book Starring Peter and Leigh

Download or read book Starring Peter and Leigh written by Susan Beth Pfeffer and published by Open Road Media. This book was released on 2015-02-03 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leigh trades in her acting career to play a starring role in her own life Most people don’t get to retire at age sixteen, but that’s what Leigh is planning to do when she moves to Long Island to live with her mom and her new stepfather. Leigh has been acting all her life, most recently on a successful TV show, and she can’t wait to be the kind of normal high school student she’s only ever played on screen. For advice on playing the role of a normal teenager, Leigh turns to her new stepbrother, Peter. Peter has hemophilia, a medical condition that has kept him out of school for a while—but missing out on high school life has given him a good eye for what normal looks like. Together, they figure two outsiders can create one socially successful high school student. They might even be right. Peter is smart, wryly funny, and a good friend when he’s not being a bad invalid. And Leigh knows she can do it—after all, acting is what she’s good at. But the thing about acting is that at the end of the day you get to go back to being yourself, a luxury Leigh starts to think she might not have appreciated enough when she had it.

Join Dr. Paul Smith as he shows how God can use the very worst things that occur in our lives to accomplish the greatest and most delightful good things! Includes a Review and Study Guide.

  • ISBN : 161663393X
  • Pages : 250 pages

Download or read book My Patch of Heaven written by Larry Grant and published by Tate Publishing. This book was released on 2010-08 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are times when some things must be done by the pastor. Why? Because there is no one else to do them. Dr. Lawrence Hudson, an eager, young pastor, gladly bears this responsibility as he embarks on his first duties at the Church of the Redeemer in the small town of Roy, Tennessee. The year is 1947, and this is the first church appointment for this bright, dedicated man of God. With grand ambitions and a deep desire to please the Lord, Dr. Hudson is attentive to the needs of his parishioners, no matter the place or the hour, and seems to have sermons ready at the drop of a hat. He soon becomes famous for his front porch sermons and fireside sermons, which he gives to those who stop by his home for counsel and spiritual advice. Although he quickly proves himself to be wise beyond his years, Dr. Hudson still has many lessons to learn as he sets about tending his new flock. Perhaps even more difficult, he, like all humans, must face his own failures and mistakes. For he has a ghost in his past which is not easily forgotten-a lost love which he may never recover. Wrestling with his own heartache, loneliness, and regret, he focuses on the needs of others in order to fill the void in his own life. Only his closest friend and housekeeper, Mrs. Ward, knows of his inner struggle-one, it seems, only God can heal. My Patch of Heaven is a story of hope, faithfulness, and triumph as a pastor and his flock ever reach for that higher calling.
