Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1897,The Year 3000is the most daring and original work of fiction by the prominent Italian anthropologist Paolo Mantegazza. A futuristic utopian novel, the book follows two young lovers who, as they travel from Rome to the capital of the United Planetary States to celebrate their "mating union," encounter the marvels of cultural and scientific advances along the way. Intriguing in itself,The Year 3000is also remarkable for both its vision of the future (predicting an astonishing array of phenomena from airplanes, artificial intelligence, CAT scans, and credit cards to controversies surrounding divorce, abortion, and euthanasia) and the window it opens on fin de siecle Europe. Published here for the first time in English, this richly annotated edition features an invaluable introductory essay that interprets the intertextual and intercultural connections within and beyond Mantegazza's work. For its critical contribution to early science fiction and for its insights into the hopes, fears, and clash of values in the Western world of both Mantegazza's time and our own, this book belongs among the visionary giants of speculative literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book spells out in detail how the age of the Earth has been determined over the centuries. First — the 'biblical' age: how was the date of Creation 4004 BC figured out? A date which is so important even today ... it is the basis of claims made by millions that the Earth is only about 6000 years old. Next — the response of geologists (and Darwin) for a very old Earth. Then, Kelvin's calculation of how long it would take for a hot Earth to cool down to its present state. And finally, today's answer ('billions'), based on the properties of radioactive materials. So, how old is Planet Earth?Related Link(s)

Book excerpt: A messenger of God’s words and chosen by Jesus to share them with the world, José Luis Rodríguez Calderón offers Christians—from spiritual leaders to those looking for reassurance during times of faltering faith and everyone in between—brand-new insight into the Scriptures in his latest book. The Third Day Explained is a compilation of some of the spiritual messages that God personally revealed to the author during his studies of the Scriptures. Most people don’t notice when God wants to reveal new information to them in the form of spiritual revelation. Or they may read something but not fully understand the spiritual meaning…until the time is right. That is what happened here, for Rodríguez Calderón, and he hopes that in sharing it, readers will also receive guidance. All that’s needed is an open mind and heart—a willingness to truly hear God’s messages now.

Book On the nature and passage of time and 4 D geometry

Download or read book On the nature and passage of time and 4 D geometry written by Samuel K.K. Blankson and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2013-12-07 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PAPERBACK: In his 10th book on post-relativity philosophy of time, the Ghanaian philosopher argues that all the theories we read about time are useful only for constructing clocks to accord accurately with the earth's regular motions and astronomical features. The many bemusing technical terms employed (like duration between events, sidereal time, solar time, nutation, equinox, earth's rotation, the precession of the equinoxes etc.), were all invented to account for fixed, general and absolute time, running all through the cosmos and the same everywhere. This view of time, however, was abolished by Einstein. He adds that everything we have ever used to reckon time (including atomic time) amounts to mere physical cycles, pulses or oscillations that we count as the units of time---the years, for instance---but they are passing. He has also uncovered Einstein's undoubted snub to 4-D geometry.
