Book excerpt: Matter: Physical Science for Kids from the Picture Book Science series gets kids excited about science! What’s the matter? Everything is matter! Everything you can touch and hold is made up of matter—including you, your dog, and this book! Matter is stuff that you can weigh and that takes up space, which means pretty much everything in the world is made of matter. In Matter: Physical Science for Kids, kids ages 5 to 8 explore the definition of matter and the different states of matter, plus the stuff in our world that isn’t matter, such as sound and light! In this nonfiction picture book, children are introduced to physical science through detailed illustrations paired with a compelling narrative that uses fun language to convey familiar examples of real-world science connections. By recognizing the basic physics concept of matter and identifying the different ways matter appears in real life, kids develop a fundamental understanding of physical science and are impressed with the idea that science is a constant part of our lives and not limited to classrooms and laboratories. Simple vocabulary, detailed illustrations, easy science experiments, and a glossary all support exciting learning for kids ages 5 to 8. Perfect for beginner readers or as a read aloud nonfiction picture book! Part of a set of four books in a series called Picture Book Science that tackles different kinds of physical science (waves, forces, energy, and matter), Matter offers beautiful pictures and simple observations and explanations. Quick STEM activities such as weighing two balloons to test if air is matter help readers cross the bridge from conceptual to experiential learning and provide a foundation of knowledge that will prove invaluable as kids progress in their science education. Perfect for children who love to ask, “Why?” about the world around them, Matter satisfies curiosity while encouraging continual student-led learning.

Book Exploring Creation with Physical Science

Download or read book Exploring Creation with Physical Science written by Jay L. Wile and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This should be the last course a student takes before high school biology. Typically, we recommend that the student take this course during the same year that he or she is taking prealgebra. Exploring Creation With Physical Science provides a detailed introduction to the physical environment and some of the basic laws that make it work. The fairly broad scope of the book provides the student with a good understanding of the earth's atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. It also covers details on weather, motion, Newton's Laws, gravity, the solar system, atomic structure, radiation, nuclear reactions, stars, and galaxies. The second edition of our physical science course has several features that enhance the value of the course: * There is more color in this edition as compared to the previous edition, and many of the drawings that are in the first edition have been replaced by higher-quality drawings. * There are more experiments in this edition than there were in the previous one. In addition, some of the experiments that were in the previous edition have been changed to make them even more interesting and easy to perform. * Advanced students who have the time and the ability for additional learning are directed to online resources that give them access to advanced subject matter. * To aid the student in reviewing the course as a whole, there is an appendix that contains questions which cover the entire course. The solutions and tests manual has the answers to those questions. Because of the differences between the first and second editions, students in a group setting cannot use both. They must all have the same edition. A further description of the changes made to our second edition courses can be found in the sidebar on page 32.

Book The World s Greatest Physical Science Textbook for Middle School Students in the Known Universe and Beyond Volume One

Download or read book The World s Greatest Physical Science Textbook for Middle School Students in the Known Universe and Beyond Volume One written by Michael Ritts and published by . This book was released on 2016-12-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A middle school physical science textbook complete with a video of the power point lessons, links to experiments, and a flash card review. This is volume one of a planned three volume set. Volume one covers the scientific method, matter and energy. Volume two will cover physics (motion, gravity, pressure, etc) and chemistry (chemical bonding, acids-bases, etc). Volume three will cover everything else (waves, pseudo-science, etc). This is intended to be a middle school level physical science textbook, but it is not written as one. It is easy to understand and funny. It is not only targeted at a middle school student but sounds like one wrote it. A lot of immature examples are used, kids like this. This is not your normal textbook, it is fun to read, but includes all the vocabulary and complex ideas. The current textbooks are full of boring information but they are useless if no one wants to actually read them. A student will want to read this one, so will an adult. It explains in easy language, complex topics. There are links to demonstrations, experiments, simulations, videos, and funny examples of science. This book is written to make physical science fun, as all science should be. Normally a textbook is written so the teacher can make a lesson from it, this one is the opposite. These are my lessons converted into a textbook. I know the lessons and examples work, so the textbook should also.Since this is an e-book it also includes links to my power point lessons (in video form), links to videos, demonstrations, and simulations. There are a lot of links in each chapter. This is self-published book designed to be an affordable online textbook for middle school or home school children. Volume one covers the Scientific Method, The basics of Matter, and Energy. Table of contentsUnit 1 - What the Heck is science?Chapter 1 - How to think like a scientistChapter 2 - The scientific MethodChapter 3 - Physical Science Chapter 4 - Lab safetyChapter 5 - The controlled experimentUnit 2 - What is MatterChapter 6 - Measuring MatterChapter 7 - AtomsChapter 8 - Combining matter into new stuffChapter 9 - The common states of matterUnit 3 - The Properties of matterChapter 10 - Properties of matterChapter 11 - Changing states of Matter Chapter 12 - Using propertiesUnit 4 - EnergyChapter 13- Forms of energyChapter 14 - Energy transitionsChapter 15 - Energy technologyUnit 5 - Heat Chapter 16- TemperatureChapter 17- HeatChapter 18 - The movement of heat

Download or read book Instructional Sequence Matters Grades 9 12 written by Patrick Brown and published by National Science Teaching Association. This book was released on 2021 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Instructional Sequence Matters, Grades 9- 12 is the one-stop resource that will inspire you to reimagine your approach to high school physical science. The book discusses the 5E (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate) as a specific pathway for teaching and learning. It also shows how simple shifts in the way you arrange and combine activities will help your students construct firsthand knowledge as you put the three dimensions of contemporary standards into practice. Like its popular counterparts for grades 3- 5 and 6- 8, the book is designed as a complete self-guided tour. It helps both novice teachers and classroom veterans understand the following: * Why sequence matters. A concise review of cognitive science and science education research explains why the order in which you structure your lessons is so critical. * What you need to do. An overview of important planning considerations covers becoming an " explore-before-explain" teacher and designing 5E instructional models. * How to do it. Planning templates include reflection questions to spark your thinking and develop your knowledge. Model lessons encourage you to teach in ways that allow for active meaning making-- precisely what is called for in three-dimensional instruction. You' ll learn to engage students as they tackle engineering design problems, use algebraic and mathematical reasoning, read technical texts, develop their own inquiries, and write argumentative essays. Instructional Sequence Matters, Grades 9- 12 will help you stimulate teacher thinking and cultivate the skills necessary to take your students to higher levels of learning.

Book Universal Design for Learning Science

Download or read book Universal Design for Learning Science written by Deborah Hanuscin and published by National Science Teachers Association. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book is the result of more than a decade of work with teachers through the Quality Elementary Science Teaching professional development program. We used two frameworks that come together in powerful ways to support student learning in science -- the 5E Learning Cycle and Universal Design for Learning. Using these frameworks encourages teachers to rethink how they have typically approached lessons and to reframe them in ways that mirror how students learn, that provide depth and conceptual coherence, and that support the success of all learners. Implementing these frameworks doesn't require adopting a new curriculum, but working with the existing curricula and resources to identify barriers to learning and possible solutions -- in other words, using a sharper knife, a bigger fork, or a deeper spoon to more effectively deal with what's already on your plate! The information in this book will be useful to individual teachers seeking to improve their craft, or to groups of teachers collaborating to support student success in science. In particular, general educators and special educators who are co-teaching science may find valuable common ground in the ideas presented in the book. Even if you are familiar with these frameworks, we believe you will find something new within these pages"--
