Book excerpt: "Almost daily, we are challenged to consider the concepts of quality, as we evaluate our jobs, the products we produce, or the services we provide, and even as we try to reconcile the outcomes of our lifestyle with its costs. We use terms like quality control, quality assurance, and quality improvements; but, if pressed, most of us world have a hard time explaining what "quality" actually is. In On Track to Quality, you will discover the definition for yourself through the perspective of an entertaining mix of train passengers stranded by a winter snowstorm. As they contemplate the topic of quality, they find that their task turns out to be more complicated than they first imagined. Clearer understanding emerges through the thoughtful, witty dialogue of the snowbound travelers - a discovery that will help you improve the quality of your business, and even help you better recognize quality in your personal life. From Harleys to healthcare, On Track to Quality contains insight for people in all walks of life. All aboard this "train of thought", as conductor Dr. James K. Todd relates a revealing ride on the rails of quality" -- Dust jacket.

Book A framework for continuous quality improvement for fast track queues in clinics in eThekwini

Download or read book A framework for continuous quality improvement for fast track queues in clinics in eThekwini written by Dudu G. Sokhela and published by AOSIS. This book was released on 2024-05-31 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores primary health care users who visit the clinic for short consultations, those who regularly come to collect medication for chronic illnesses, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, arthritis, epilepsy, tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS, clients for family planning and babies coming for routine weight monitoring, immunisation and routine prophylactic treatment. Since these health care users come for short consultations, the research investigates where the bottlenecks in the clinic queues resulted in long waiting times and if these consultations were of expected quality. This book arose from the author's own experience working in a primary health care setting focused on the challenges faced by patients. This book will add to the body of knowledge and management of health care users, as this book offers practical recommendations that are tailormade for specific health care users, to be implemented by primary health care providers and settings. Furthermore, the country is faced with a burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases. New strategies are required to address the ever-changing disease pattern and the rapidly growing populations.

Book An Education Track for Creativity and Other Quality Thinking Processes

Download or read book An Education Track for Creativity and Other Quality Thinking Processes written by Berenice D. Bahr Bleedorn and published by Scarecrow Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The need for new thinking in the world, both official leadership and for all participating members of society has been a glaring reality in recent times. The idea of teaching students how to use the full potential of their thinking apparatus is not absurd-simply logical and timely. Opportunities for creative expression are central to the development of a sense of personal identity and significance when creative thinking and expression are valued by the powers that be. In this book, the author stresses the importance of radical change in educational practices as a necessity.

Book Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes

Download or read book Registries for Evaluating Patient Outcomes written by Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality/AHRQ and published by Government Printing Office. This book was released on 2014-04-01 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This User’s Guide is intended to support the design, implementation, analysis, interpretation, and quality evaluation of registries created to increase understanding of patient outcomes. For the purposes of this guide, a patient registry is an organized system that uses observational study methods to collect uniform data (clinical and other) to evaluate specified outcomes for a population defined by a particular disease, condition, or exposure, and that serves one or more predetermined scientific, clinical, or policy purposes. A registry database is a file (or files) derived from the registry. Although registries can serve many purposes, this guide focuses on registries created for one or more of the following purposes: to describe the natural history of disease, to determine clinical effectiveness or cost-effectiveness of health care products and services, to measure or monitor safety and harm, and/or to measure quality of care. Registries are classified according to how their populations are defined. For example, product registries include patients who have been exposed to biopharmaceutical products or medical devices. Health services registries consist of patients who have had a common procedure, clinical encounter, or hospitalization. Disease or condition registries are defined by patients having the same diagnosis, such as cystic fibrosis or heart failure. The User’s Guide was created by researchers affiliated with AHRQ’s Effective Health Care Program, particularly those who participated in AHRQ’s DEcIDE (Developing Evidence to Inform Decisions About Effectiveness) program. Chapters were subject to multiple internal and external independent reviews.

This book was released on 2019-01-27 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2015, building on the advances of the Millennium Development Goals, the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goals that include an explicit commitment to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. However, enormous gaps remain between what is achievable in human health and where global health stands today, and progress has been both incomplete and unevenly distributed. In order to meet this goal, a deliberate and comprehensive effort is needed to improve the quality of health care services globally. Crossing the Global Quality Chasm: Improving Health Care Worldwide focuses on one particular shortfall in health care affecting global populations: defects in the quality of care. This study reviews the available evidence on the quality of care worldwide and makes recommendations to improve health care quality globally while expanding access to preventive and therapeutic services, with a focus in low-resource areas. Crossing the Global Quality Chasm emphasizes the organization and delivery of safe and effective care at the patient/provider interface. This study explores issues of access to services and commodities, effectiveness, safety, efficiency, and equity. Focusing on front line service delivery that can directly impact health outcomes for individuals and populations, this book will be an essential guide for key stakeholders, governments, donors, health systems, and others involved in health care.

It begins by providing an overview of the system for drug development, regulation, distribution, and use. Preventing Medication Errors also examines the peer-reviewed literature on the incidence and the cost of medication errors and the effectiveness of error prevention strategies. Presenting data that will foster the reduction of medication errors, the book provides action agendas detailing the measures needed to improve the safety of medication use in both the short- and long-term. Patients, primary health care providers, health care organizations, purchasers of group health care, legislators, and those affiliated with providing medications and medication- related products and services will benefit from this guide to reducing medication errors.

Book The Quality Roadmap

Download or read book The Quality Roadmap written by Raynold A. Svenson and published by Amacom Books. This book was released on 1994 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TQM is a tough process. Whether your company is straying and struggling midway along the quality path or has just begun the journey, The Quality Roadmap will help get you back on the road. And you'll not only continue your journey, but you'll see your destination clearly and understand why your company is on this pilgrimage. The Quality Roadmap is not like other books on this subject. It doesn't contain guru revelations, it doesn't dictate which tools to use, and it doesn't subject you to long-winded theories. It's a pragmatic, universal planning model developed by the authors and the Council for Continuous Improvement, a consortium of more than 140 quality-seeking companies. This model is based on patterns of success that both the authors and the Council found in research and was created specifically to help you take a long-range look at your company's quality efforts and figure out: Where are we now? Where do we want to be? How do we get there? The Quality Roadmap shows how to avoid common pitfalls along the way, such as trying to do too much emphasis on massive training efforts, or focusing mainly on manufacturing. The book presents a map that will help your company get past these quagmires and focuses on improvement targets that give the biggest return. The "map," which actually resembles something more like a three-dimensional cube, will enable your company to pinpoint those areas of improvement that will yield the most significant results for your business; plan your quality effort for the next few years, and set up a series of improvement targets that are in the best strategic order; and take control of your quality effort's destination and help you get there faster and less expensively.
