Book On the Road to Innsbruck and Back A 103rd Division Infantryman s World War 2 Memoir

Download or read book On the Road to Innsbruck and Back A 103rd Division Infantryman s World War 2 Memoir written by William B. Bache and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2020-02-05 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Merriam Press World War 2 Memoir. On the Road to Innsbruck and Back is a product of the authors long obsession with serving in Europe during World War II as a member of the 103rd Infantry Division. Too often he was given a responsibility that he neither deserved nor desired. But then he was in an Intelligence and Reconnaissance platoon, at the service of a regimental headquarters. The chief model for On the Road is Stephen Cranes The Red Badge of Courage, the best short novel about war that he knows. Like Crane, he wanted, above all, to demonstrate the moral cost of some months in combat upon a not-insensitive young man.

Book Forks in the Road

Download or read book Forks in the Road written by Wes Taylor and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-02-24 with total page 171 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My writings began approximately four years ago after receiving a comprehensive genealogy study on my father's side of the family. It prompted many questions about where we came from and how and why we ended up at the tip of Texas. Realizing that while the information was complete, it was lacking in stories. In pursuing more information to fill in some of the gaps, I realized that my children had no idea of my life's history, including my younger years, schooling, sports, military, college, and my thirty-plus-year career. My daughter had blessed me with an iPad, so I began. It is my life story from birth through retirement, and the data is factual, including the side and supplemental descriptions and stories. The youngest of seven children, born during the Depression in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, on the Mexican border, and my life and experiences growing up there on three separate occasions. The forks appearing in my life's road began almost immediately upon graduation from high school when I accepted an athletic scholarship only to drop out during my first semester to join the military before the GI Bill benefits were to expire. After my military obligation and college periods were complete, I accepted my first position as an entry-level accountant with the Bureau of Reclamation in 1961 and proceeded up a career ladder for twelve years before reaching the top rung with an offer to transfer to Denver, Colorado, as regional finance officer in 1973. Five years later, I was asked to assume the first finance officer position with the newly created agency under the Department of Energy of the Western Area Power Administration. In 1980, I was approached to return to Reclamation as a finance officer in Salt Lake City, which was Reclamation's largest and most active region, and had assumed the finance functions for the nation's youth programs as well. The final career movement would come only three years later when the regional management received approval to combine the finance and budget functions in a reorganization effort and changing my title and expanded responsibilities to regional financial manager. Each of these career movements would provide new and different challenges containing many separate forks in my road. I enjoyed them all.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Headstrong and impatient, the young exile Revan Teutevar has his heart set on returning to Athelon. Between him and his ruined homeland, however, lies Vhaleons: a city ruled by corruption and greed. Chasing the threads of a dangerous conspiracy, Revan and his friends soon find themselves entrapped in a game of power and deceit. One false move and their very lives are forfeit. Captain Nikoma is a young woman desperate to prove her worth in a man’s world. She’s a loner, an outsider even amongst her fellow Simarru warriors no matter how well she rides or swings a sword. But war with the Imperium League is at hand, and with it, the chance to step out of her father’s shadow…if she can stay alive long enough to change her stars. With war looming, the west has forgotten about Arund. Even so, the one-time Hero of the Republic of Pel and would-be high king hasn’t been idle. East of the Heimwall, he’s hard at work rebuilding his capital and amassing a motley horde to stake his claim in the growing chaos. If he can hold them all together — fierce Jotun, barbaric Periwaneth and treacherous Emorans — the White Knight could very well make good on his vow to rule all of Peldrin. As shadows fall, everyone has a score to settle. Epic, historical fantasy meets gritty American Western in Teutevar Saga: Return to Shadow Part I.
