Book Approximate Solution Of Operator Equations With Applications

Download or read book Approximate Solution Of Operator Equations With Applications written by Ioannis K Argyros and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2005-08-26 with total page 527 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Researchers are faced with the problem of solving a variety of equations in the course of their work in engineering, economics, physics, and the computational sciences. This book focuses on a new and improved local-semilocal and monotone convergence analysis of efficient numerical methods for computing approximate solutions of such equations, under weaker hypotheses than in other works. This particular feature is the main strength of the book when compared with others already in the literature. The explanations and applications in the book are detailed enough to capture the interest of curious readers and complete enough to provide the necessary background material to go further into the subject.

Book Approximation Methods for Solutions of Differential and Integral Equations

Download or read book Approximation Methods for Solutions of Differential and Integral Equations written by V. K. Dzyadyk and published by VSP. This book was released on 1995 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of 20 years of investigations carried out by the author and his colleagues in order to bring closer and, to a certain extent, synthesize a number of well-known results, ideas and methods from the theory of function approximation, theory of differential and integral equations and numerical analysis. The book opens with an introduction on the theory of function approximation and is followed by a new approach to the Fredholm integral equations to the second kind. Several chapters are devoted to the construction of new methods for the effective approximation of solutions of several important integral, and ordinary and partial differential equations. In addition, new general results on the theory of linear differential equations with one regular singular point, as well as applications of the various new methods are discussed.

Book Spline Models for Observational Data

Download or read book Spline Models for Observational Data written by Grace Wahba and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1990-09-01 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves well as an introduction into the more theoretical aspects of the use of spline models. It develops a theory and practice for the estimation of functions from noisy data on functionals. The simplest example is the estimation of a smooth curve, given noisy observations on a finite number of its values. Convergence properties, data based smoothing parameter selection, confidence intervals, and numerical methods are established which are appropriate to a number of problems within this framework. Methods for including side conditions and other prior information in solving ill posed inverse problems are provided. Data which involves samples of random variables with Gaussian, Poisson, binomial, and other distributions are treated in a unified optimization context. Experimental design questions, i.e., which functionals should be observed, are studied in a general context. Extensions to distributed parameter system identification problems are made by considering implicitly defined functionals.

Book Information Linkage between Applied Mathematics and Industry

Download or read book Information Linkage between Applied Mathematics and Industry written by Peter Wang and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information Linkage Between Applied Mathematics and Industry is a collection of papers dealing with mathematics in engineering context and applications. One paper describes Chernoff faces as a technique of representing multidimensional data and compares the technique with Andrews' sine curves and Anderson's metroglyphys. Another paper investigates practical problems that can arise during implementation of the methods of parameter optimization, using as an example the trajectory of the space shuttle from liftoff to insertion into orbit. One paper analyzes Soviet foreign policy using a graphical representation of k-dimensional data as a statistical tool, written specifically for analysts in foreign policy and international relations. During the period 1964-1975, Soviet foreign policy is active in 25 Sub-Saharan African countries. Another paper discusses ballistics modeling in real time and recommends that investigators be familiar with the computer language to be used, the type of system to be applied, the type of weapon to be modeled, the accuracy required, and other existing ballistic programs. Other papers discuss probabilistic dynamic programming for fault isolation and applied mathematics, as well as engineering in the transport of Antarctic ice resources. The collection can prove valuable to mathematicians, engineers, or designers of industrial processes, computers, aviation, and space technology.

Book Multivariate Approximation Theory II

Download or read book Multivariate Approximation Theory II written by Schempp and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Third International Symposium on Hultivariate Approximation Theory was held at the Oberwolfach!1athematical Research Insti tute, Black Forest, February 8-12, 1982. The preceding conferen ces on this topic were held in 1976* and 1979**. The conference brought together 50 mathematicians from 14 coun tries. These Proceedings form arecord of most of the papers pre sented at the Symposium. The topics treated cover different problems on multivariate approximation theory such as new results concerning approxima tion by polynomials in Sobolev spaces, biorthogonal systems and orthogonal series of functions in several variables, multivariate spline functions, group theoretic and functional analytic methods, positive linear operators, error estimates for approximation procedures and cubature formulae, Boolean methods in multivari ate interpolation and the numerical application of summation procedures. Special emphasis was posed on the application of multivariate approximation in various fields of science. One mathematician was sorely missed at the Symposium. Professor Arthur Sard who had actively taken part in the earlier conferen ces passed away in August of 1980. Since he was a friend of many of the participants, the editors wish to dedicate these Procee dings to the memory of this distinguished mathematician. Abrief appreciation of his life and mathematical work appears as well *"Constructive Theory of Functions of Several Variables". Edited by w. Schempp and Karl Zeller.
