Book Optimized Performance of an Articulated Gravity Gradient Satellite at Synchronous Altitude microform

Download or read book Optimized Performance of an Articulated Gravity Gradient Satellite at Synchronous Altitude microform written by P. C. Hughes and published by National Library of Canada. This book was released on 1966 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A geometrically and dynamically symmetrical articulated satellite is considered for possible application at synchronous altitudes. The perturbing influence of solar radiation pressure on the two vertical hinged booms is studied, and the small-angle equations of motion derived. From these equations, both the transient and steady-state pointing performance are optimized through a computer search. Pointing errors of the order of two degrees, and damping times less than one orbit are shown to be possible for a weight expenditure of forty-five pounds (satellite payload weight = 250 pounds). Book Advanced Techniques for Analyzing and Improving Gravity Gradient Satellite Pointing Accuracies at High Orbital Altitudes Volume I Analysis

Download or read book Advanced Techniques for Analyzing and Improving Gravity Gradient Satellite Pointing Accuracies at High Orbital Altitudes Volume I Analysis written by J. L. Palmer and published by . This book was released on 1967 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study is directed toward the investigation of the problems, and possible solutions, associated with high pointing accuracies for gravity gradient systems at high orbital altitudes. Two major areas of investigation are considered. In the area of system response, consideration is given to determining the configuration parameters and design techniques which provide the greatest tolerance to disturbance torques. In the area of disturbances, the parameters and design techniques which minimize the amplitudes of the disturbance torques are considered. Specific objectives were to present fundamental gravity gradient characteristics and show methods of analysis. The problem areas are defined by presenting the detailed basic characteristics of a simple single body system and noting its deficiencies. A series of candidate designs are obtained by augmenting the single body system with design techniques which tend to remove its deficiencies. The analytical approach consists of studying the relationship of the system singularities with respect to harmonics of orbit rate. It is shown that for a system with properly located singularities, the influencing parameters in determining ultimate state response are the proper pole and zero locations and damping has a minor effect. The analysis is presented in Volume I and the derivation of dynamic equations, disturbance expressions, and station keeping parameters is contained in Volume II. (Author).

Book Gravity Gradient Stabilization Studies with the Dodge Satellite

Download or read book Gravity Gradient Stabilization Studies with the Dodge Satellite written by Robert E. Fischell and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 51 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DODGE satellite was launched on 1 July 1967 into a near-synchronous orbit to demonstrate gravity-gradient stabilization at that high altitude and to experiment with various design parameters and damping techniques. This satellite was the first to be three-axis stabilized at high altitude using gravity-gradient techniques. It continues to function satisfactorily to the present date. Stabilization in pitch and roll to better than plus or minus 10 degrees has been obtained. The yaw stabilization of plus or minus 45 degrees has been fairly consistent; with the assistance of a small angular momentum flywheel, yaw accuracy of plus or minus 20 degrees was achieved. Magnetic damping of the sample-and-hold type and simulated hysteresis were both successful in damping librations. Efforts with the torsion-wire-suspended damper boom scheme were not successful, probably because of a mechanical bias in the device. A television camera system permitted observation of the boom bending under the influence of solar heating. Mechanical hysteresis in the boom bending was observed. (Author).

Book Gravity Geoid and Height Systems

Download or read book Gravity Geoid and Height Systems written by Urs Marti and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-13 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume includes a selection of papers presented at the IAG international symposium "Gravity, Geoid and Height Systems 2012" (GGHS2012), which was organized by IAG Commission 2 “Gravity Field” with the assistance of the International Gravity Field Service (IGFS) and GGOS Theme 1 “Unified Global Height System”. The book summarizes the latest results on gravimetry and gravity networks, global gravity field modeling and applications, future gravity field missions.
