Book An Exploratory Theoretical Investigation of the Effect of Longitudinal Surface Curvature on the Turbulent Boundary Layer

Download or read book An Exploratory Theoretical Investigation of the Effect of Longitudinal Surface Curvature on the Turbulent Boundary Layer written by Neal Tetervin and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The equations of motion and total enthalpy are derived for a compressible turbulent boundary layer on an axisymmetric or two-dimensional surface with non-negligible longitudinal curvature. From these equations are derived the integral-momentum, kinetic-energy, and total-enthalpy equations for non-negligible longitudinal curvature. Calculations indicate that if concave curvature increases the skin friction sufficiently separation is delayed although the boundary layer is thickened. Also, an increase in curvature in the direction in which the surface pressure rises acts to hasten separation for concave curvature and delay it for convex curvature. (Author).

Book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 3

Download or read book Engineering Turbulence Modelling and Experiments 3 written by G. Bergeles and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 932 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents and discussses new developments in the area of turbulence modelling and measurements, with particular emphasis on engineering-related problems. At present, turbulence is one of the key issues in tackling engineering flow problems. Powerful computers and numerical methods are now available for solving the flow equations, but the simulation of turbulence effects which are nearly always important in practice, is still in an unsatisfactory state and introduces considerable uncertainities in the accuracy of CFD calculations. These and other aspects of turbulence modelling and measurements are dealt with in detail by experts in the field. The resulting book is an up-to-date review of the most recent research in this exciting area.

Book Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow written by Alexander J. Smits and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-11 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A good understanding of turbulent compressible flows is essential to the design and operation of high-speed vehicles. Such flows occur, for example, in the external flow over the surfaces of supersonic aircraft, and in the internal flow through the engines. Our ability to predict the aerodynamic lift, drag, propulsion and maneuverability of high-speed vehicles is crucially dependent on our knowledge of turbulent shear layers, and our understanding of their behavior in the presence of shock waves and regions of changing pressure. Turbulent Shear Layers in Supersonic Flow provides a comprehensive introduction to the field, and helps provide a basis for future work in this area. Wherever possible we use the available experimental work, and the results from numerical simulations to illustrate and develop a physical understanding of turbulent compressible flows.
