Book In scribing Body landscape Relations

Download or read book In scribing Body landscape Relations written by Bronwyn Davies and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2000 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revisits the rather well-worn subject of body as landscape, conceptualizing inscription as that writing which brings bodies and/as landscapes into being. Davies (education, James Cook U., Australia) explores the relationship of body to landscape through works of fiction, the experiences of environmentalists, and through the development of writing strategies. Addressed are the relationships to land had by Australian women and by Australian male environmentalists; Japanese students, academics, and environmentalists; and landscape in the writings of Yasunari Kawabata, Sam Watson, Rodney Hall, and Janette Turner Hospital. While this is an academic book dealing with literary theory, Davies writes for the non-initiate, making the volume suitable for even advanced high schoolers. Book Observing the Scribe at Work

Download or read book Observing the Scribe at Work written by Rodney Ast and published by . This book was released on 2021-06-29 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scribes are paradoxically both central and invisible in most societies before the typographic revolution of the 15th century, witnessed by every manuscript, but often elusive as historical figures. The act of writing is a quotidian and vernacular practice as well as a literary one, and must be observed not only in the outputs of literary copyists or reports of their activities, but in the documents of everyday life. This volume collects contributions on scribal practice as it features on diverse media (including papyri, tablets, and inscriptions) in a range of ancient societies, from the Ancient Near East and Dynastic Egypt through the Graeco-Roman world to Byzantium. These discussions of the role and place of scribes and scribal activity in pre-typographic cultures both contribute to a better understanding of one of the key drivers of these cultures, and illuminate the transmission of knowledge and traditions within and between them.

Book excerpt: The Word Biblical Commentary delivers the best in biblical scholarship, from the leading scholars of our day who share a commitment to Scripture as divine revelation. The result is judicious and balanced insight into the meanings of the text in the framework of biblical theology. These widely acclaimed commentaries serve as exceptional resources for the professional theologian and instructor, the seminary or university student, the working minister, and everyone concerned with building theological understanding from a solid base of biblical scholarship. Each section of the commentary includes: Pericope Bibliography—a helpful resource containing the most important works that pertain to each particular pericope.
