Immaculee’s family was brutally murdered during a killing spree that lasted three months and claimed the lives of nearly a million Rwandans. Incredibly, Immaculee survived the slaughter. For 91 days, she and seven other women huddled silently together in the cramped bathroom of a local pastor while hundreds of machete-wielding killers hunted for them. It was during those endless hours of unspeakable terror that Immaculee discovered the power of prayer, eventually shedding her fear of death and forging a profound and lasting relationship with God. She emerged from her bathroom hideout having discovered the meaning of truly unconditional love—a love so strong she was able seek out and forgive her family’s killers. The triumphant story of this remarkable young woman’s journey through the darkness of genocide will inspire anyone whose life has been touched by fear, suffering, and loss.

Book The Great Awakening New Modes of Life Amidst Capitalist Ruins

Download or read book The Great Awakening New Modes of Life Amidst Capitalist Ruins written by Anna Grear and published by Punctum Books. This book was released on 2020-10-06 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "As we enter a time of climate catastrophe, worsening inequality, and collapsing market/state systems, can human societies transcend the old, dysfunctional paradigms and build the world anew? There are many signs of hope.In The Great Awakening, twelve cutting-edge activists, scholars, and change-makers probe the deep roots of our current predicament while reflecting on the social DNA for a post-capitalist future. We learn about seed-sharing in agriculture, blockchain technologies for networked collaboration, cosmolocal peer production of houses and vehicles, creative hacks on law, and new ways of thinking and enacting a rich, collaborative future. This surge of creativity is propelled by the social practices of commoning new modes of life for creating and sharing wealth in fair-minded, ecologically respectful ways.It is clear that the multiple, entangled crises produced by neoliberal capitalism cannot be resolved by existing political and legal institutions, which are imploding under the weight of their own contradictions. Present and future needs can be met by systems that go beyond the market and state. With experiments and struggle, a growing pluriverse of commoners from Europe and the US to the Global South and cyberspace are demonstrating some fundamentally new ways of thinking, being and acting. This ontological shift of perspective is making new worlds possible.Anna Grear is Professor of Law and Theory at Cardiff University, UK. She has authored a range of books and articles addressing law's construction of the world, and offering a sustained critical engagement with law's underlying philosophical and political assumptions. Anna is Founder and Editor in Chief of the Journal of Human Rights and the Environment. She is also an Associate Fellow of the New Economy Law Centre, Vermont University, USA; Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Waikato, New Zealand; and a member of the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.David Bollier is an activist, scholar, and blogger focused on the commons as a new/old paradigm for re-imagining economics, politics, and culture. Book Hope Amidst Conflict

  • Publisher : Oxford University Press

Download or read book Hope Amidst Conflict written by Oded Adomi Leshem and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-10-13 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How does hope for peace form and proliferate in the seemingly hopeless reality of conflict, and why do despair and fear often prevail? How do political elites utilize hope and skepticism to manipulate their public during conflict? And how does hope manifest itself at the societal level? Hope Amidst Conflict takes on the bold challenge of answering these questions by merging insights from philosophy and social psychology and investigating hope for peace in an intense political context--the intractable, violent conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. Hope for peace has gathered scholarly attention in the last decade. However, the work has been focusing on the mechanisms of hope while failing to ask the bigger questions about hope's role in the politics of conflict. Moreover, existing research presents a confusing account of what hope "is" and how it can be measured. This confusion yielded mixed results regarding the levels and consequences of hope during conflict. Combining the wisdom of more than a hundred years of scholarship on hope with insights from original data collected in conflict zones, Hope Amidst Conflict offers a novel conceptualization of hope and a standardized way to measure hope in a wide array of contexts. Using these new approaches, the book embarks on a journey to identify the determinants and consequences of hope amidst conflict.

Book I Am Amidst You Now

Download or read book I Am Amidst You Now written by Penny Mc Coy and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2011-12 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book you will find prophetic messages, exposition, expression and illustrations depicting God's heart as our Father. They represent the incredible, amazing, grace-filled, loving and faithful beauty of his love to our hearts as his children. I believe these messages will encourage your soul, uplift your eyes, challenge your heart, nurture your mind, soothe your wounds, offer truth, contend for your freedom and offer hope for your destiny. These words are the inspiration of the Holy Spirit of God. They demand respectful attention and renew hope for healing, deliverance, wholeness and freedom. They will repeatedly confirm that God himself is Amidst You Now generously providing his healing truth to this lost and dying world - His truth is, he is not dead, he's alive and risen He has ears that hear, eyes that see, a voice that speaks and all authority and power to make the nations tremble. This book gives an image of this period in history where we will be faced with relentless deception. The darkness will be distinguished from The Light as the east is from the west. As the darkness grows expeditiously, The Light will burn brighter on the horizon of God's prophetic vision for the world at large. I believe this book will tug on your heartstrings and question your resolve.
