H. Stearns, who founded this business in 1847 and died in 1909. It was our intention to distribute gratuitously this pamphlet (partly advertising and partly historical) among our customers. As the work progressed, however, we found so much of interest which had occurred in the year '47 and so much of Boston history which was connected with our present location, that the original plan of a small booklet was abandoned.
