Book excerpt: Muffin tops. Scrunchies. Suntan hose. Slut shoes. Visible panty line. Who hasn’t had the unfortunate experience of witnessing—or (gasp!) actually wearing—one of these fashion disasters? The atrocities Clinton Kelly has seen—it’s a surprise he hasn’t gouged out his own eyes. Mom jeans? Fancy fingernails? Tracksuits? In the same straight-talking style that has made TLC’s What Not to Wear a smash hit for eight seasons, the cheeky media personality and author of Freakin’ Fabulous shows women how to outfit themselves with confidence and style as he pokes fun at fashion "don’ts." From the most obvious faux pas (Texas tuxedos) to borderline offenses (peekaboo boobies), Clinton offers detailed and entertaining critiques of our top one hundred sartorial slip-ups. He turns his keen eye to wardrobe, color, cut, cleanliness, hairstyle, accessories, and even posture. And because he loves you, he presents easy alternatives and practical suggestions for creating fabulous outfits that will make you forget you ever wore socks with clogs. Clinton also explains how to use trends to your advantage at any age, from deciding which ones work for you to understanding how to wear them to keep your look relevant. Because if you’re not comfortable in the sequined mini, everyone around you will know it. A delightful mix of hilarious dish and expert fashion advice, Oh No She Didn’t will turn anyone from fashion victim to fashionista in no time.

Book excerpt: The last thing he wants to do is return home. Cole Barrett, former Army Ranger, has a new mission objective. Sell his grandfather’s house and put Deep Haven in his rearview mirror as fast as possible. Deep Haven holds the hurts of physical abuse at the hands of his grandfather, a man now in a memory care facility with dementia. Recently divorced, single, and unattached, Cole just wants a new life as a US Marshal. One where he can forget the past and start new. Unfortunately, there’s a tenant in the garage apartment who’s refusing to move. Even worse? It’s his childhood crush, Megan Carter, and her son. She’s waited years for her first love to return. Wedding planner and single mom Megan Carter is no stranger to Deep Haven. To her, it’s the place where she makes dreams come true—at least, everyone else’s. Her big dream is to purchase the Black Spruce Bed & Breakfast to turn it into a premier event venue and, if she can stay booked for enough weddings over winter, she’ll have enough money to buy the inn, move out of Grandpa Barrett’s garage apartment, and finally give her nine-year-old son, Josh, the life he deserves. After using part of her intended down payment to cover his hockey fees, she’s behind on her Black Spruce funds and only has thirty days to come up with four thousand dollars. Still, she’s oh, so close…until her childhood friend-slash-crush, Cole Barrett, returns to Deep Haven. Unfortunately, he’s not back to fulfill a silly childhood promise to marry her, but she never expected him to evict her! The last thing she needs is more expenses. Or for another man to walk into her heart…and break it. Maybe it’s never to late to finish a love story… Want more of Deep Haven? Book excerpt: You already know about the Bunnies, now learn about the music that helped shape Playboy. Playboy—the magazine, the empire, the lifestyle—is one of the world's best known brands. Since the launch of Playboy magazine in 1953, two elements have been remarkably consistent: the first, is the celebration of the female form. The second, readers may be surprised to learn, is Playboy's involvement in the music scene. The playboy experience has never been just about sex, but about lifestyle. Hugh Hefner's personal passion for music, particularly fine jazz, has always been an essential component of that. Full of interviews with hundreds of people who were on the scene throughout the rise, fall, and on-going renaissance, Playboy Swings carries readers on a seductive journey. Farmer focuses on Playboy's involvement in the music scene and impact on popular entertainment, and demonstrates how the empire helped change the world by integrating television and festivals. Join Patty Farmer as she guides the reader through the first inception of the Playboy empire through the 1959 Jazz Festival, and club opening after club opening. With 60 pages of photos and a complete reference guide, readers will associate music, not just Bunnies, when thinking about Playboy after reading this enthralling look into the history of one of the world's most infamous brands.

Book The Secret Diary of Eric Cowell Aged 6 1 2 months

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The innermost thoughts of Simon Cowell's son :'I woke up to find that everyone was all a twitter. By which I mean that Dad's twits and almost the whole world were going crazy with the news that I had been born. Quite right. I'm sure that when everyone is born they think they are the centre of the universe, and with me it turns out to be true. I guess at some point I'll find out why.''Today I met Jeeves. Well, Daddy called him Piers, but I call him Jeeves. He said things like 'And how would Sir like his nappy done up today? Traditional classic fit or a little more snug around the middle for Sir perhaps?' I resolved to ask him for a Scotch on the rocks, just as soon as I could work up the vocabulary.''Apparently I was born on something called Valentine's Day. So, when Harry Bighair came to visit he asked Daddy if they were going to call me Valentino. Daddy answered, 'I'm not going to dignify that with a reply.' Sometimes I wish Daddy would speak his mind more and not just sit on the fence all the time.'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Port Talbot is a tourist trap in the “summah” located on the southern coast of Maine. The wealth and pedigree of the summer folk is legendary with their cottages on the rocky bluffs. The population quadruples from June to September. The traffic snarls around the cedar-shingled shops in the port, bringing things to a standstill. Enter the college-aged bicycle policeman. In the summer of ’77, the chief of police has chosen David “Digger” Davenport, the son of one of the richest summer families who winter in Lake Placid, New York. Digger’s history of solving crime starts in chapter one in a flashback to when he was eleven years old and when he went fishing alone and hooked the partially decomposed body of the chef of the Brigantine Hotel. From this experience, as he matures, he develops a penchant for solving crime and enrolls in courses and trainings in college that prepare him for the calamity that lies ahead in his summer job as Port Talbot’s bike cop. For Digger, the summer of ’77 starts as it should in this quaint seaside village: tons of college kids working in the resort hotels who are looking for love in all the right places. He meets “the Virginians” on the first day of his beat in Dock Square. They cause a traffic jam in their yellow VW bug convertible. The Virginians are gorgeous coeds escaping the heat and heartbreak at home in Richmond. The townies say the winter in Port Talbot is “wicked cold” and deadly. Unfortunately, the summer now, too, turns deadly and just as plain wicked. Annie, one of the Virginians, who is a waitress at the biggest and best hotel, the Brigantine, is found dead on the beach by hotel guests. Quickly a suspect is arrested: a black bellhop from Florida. Port Talbot is thrown into turmoil on multiple levels: north versus south, white versus black, summer folk versus townies, and the lobstah mobstahs versus the candidates for sheriff and district attorney. One kid . . . . on a bike . . . with a badge . . . unravels the open and shut case against the bellhop. Digger reveals new evidence against great odds of a much more sinister perpetrator who is well-connected and sadistic and who will do anything to keep the evidence from being found. Introducing Port Talbot’s Bike Cop in the Greater Wait of Evidence.
