Book Offsetting the Cost of Water Conservation Methods to Achieve Zero net Water Use

Download or read book Offsetting the Cost of Water Conservation Methods to Achieve Zero net Water Use written by Kendra Cecil Olmos and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to achieve zero-net water use (in which the annual amount of potable water use is no greater than the amount of water that falls on-site) and achieve reasonable payback periods for water conservation measures was investigated for a proposed mixed-use housing development in Davis, California. Different water efficiency scenarios were analyzed for indoor and landscaping water use, as well as use of graywater and rainwater for landscaping. Cost savings resulted from water utility cost savings and water-energy cost savings (energy reductions from the decrease in water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, and hot water use). The feasibility of selling carbon offset credits in California's new Cap-and-Trade Program through the reduction in greenhouse gas emissions resulting from water-energy reductions was also investigated. Zero-net water was possible on the site-scales of a single family residence and the entire community with indoor and landscaping conservation measures alone

Book Achieving Urban Water Conservation

Download or read book Achieving Urban Water Conservation written by John Ernest Flack and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water supply and wastewater flow problems have resulted in an increasing concern with urban water demand. This treatise is a study of the feasibility of using various water conservation measures to reduce residential water usage. As a case study, alternative conservation methods were examined for a small community, Lyons, Colorado. A preliminary assessment, made on the basis of available data, found that water demand reductions of 35 to 40 percent were possible through implementation of a combination of water conservation methods. It was concluded that demand reduction techniques could successfully be incorporated in a water utility's management program.

Book Saving Water in a Desert City

Download or read book Saving Water in a Desert City written by William E. Martin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-09-16 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was stimulated by and sets out to analyse a political battle over water pricing by a municipal system. Originally published in 1984, this title provides improved methods for demand function estimation where block rates are involved, suggests procedures for rational pricing of municipal water, and explains how politics can dominate when real decisions are made. Due to the additional virtue of this title being easy to read, it is ideal for students interested in environmental studies, economics, and policy making, as well as for those involved with municipal services and resource management in general.

Book Estimating the Value of Water use Efficiency in the Intermountain West

Download or read book Estimating the Value of Water use Efficiency in the Intermountain West written by David G. Groves and published by RAND Corporation. This book was released on 2008 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Evaluating the cost-effectiveness of water-efficiency programs can be difficult, because not all the benefits are easily quantified. This report presents an economic framework based on two tools from the California Urban Water Conservation Council to estimate the avoided costs and environmental benefits of an agency's efficiency programs. The report evaluates the benefits of Denver Water efficiency programs and uses an exploratory modeling approach to accommodate the significant uncertainty in such estimations. The results of this study suggest that the inclusion of long-run avoided costs and environmental benefits is critical to fully recognizing the value of water-use efficiency programs. The authors find that evaluating only the short-run avoided costs leads to the conclusion that many water-efficiency projects already a part of Denver Water's 10-year conservation plan are not cost-effective. When long-run avoided costs and environmental and recreational benefits were factored in, all but two Denver Water programs were estimated to be cost-effective. The timing of projected water savings from efficiency programs is also critical. Water savings from programs that concentrate savings during summer months, when water is scarcer, should be valued higher than saving from programs that lead to more uniform water savings throughout the year, because these water savings reduce peak water needs." -- publisher's website.

Book The Water Footprint Assessment Manual

Download or read book The Water Footprint Assessment Manual written by Maite M. Aldaya and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People use lots of water for drinking, cooking and washing, but significantly more for producing things such as food, paper and cotton clothes. The water footprint is an indicator of water use that looks at both direct and indirect water use of a consumer or producer. Indirect use refers to the 'virtual water' embedded in tradable goods and commodities, such as cereals, sugar or cotton. The water footprint of an individual, community or business is defined as the total volume of freshwater that is used to produce the goods and services consumed by the individual or community or produced by the business. This book offers a complete and up-to-date overview of the global standard on water footprint assessment as developed by the Water Footprint Network. More specifically it: o Provides a comprehensive set of methods for water footprint assessment o Shows how water footprints can be calculated for individual processes and products, as well as for consumers, nations and businesses o Contains detailed worked examples of how to calculate green, blue and grey water footprints o Describes how to assess the sustainability of the aggregated water footprint within a river basin or the water footprint of a specific product o Includes an extensive library of possible measures that can contribute to water footprint reduction

Book Sustainable Water Conservation Strategies A Global Priority

Download or read book Sustainable Water Conservation Strategies A Global Priority written by Rhoda Kariuki and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2023-05-30 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Academic Paper from the year 2023 in the subject Economy - Environment economics, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: The topic of this essay is "Water Conservation Strategies and Their Impact". It comprehensively covers the current global priority of water conservation due to freshwater scarcity. There are sustainable strategies used in water conservation, potential solutions to water problems, and even the outcomes. Effective conservation strategies are both individual and collective efforts where the reduction of water usage can be done through fixtures, behavior changes, and reuse to contribute to conservation. There is a need to implement sustainable agricultural practices, promote water-efficient industries and invest in technologies that advocate water treatment and distribution. The potential solutions to water problems are inclusive of demand and supply side strategies. The supply side is the construction of water storage facilities and the implementation of rainwater harvesting methods and desalination processes. The demand side focuses on water management through pricing, water-efficient practices, and public awareness campaigns. Water conservation efforts have led to reduced water consumption, improved water quality, and increased resilience to droughts and climate impact changes.

Book Water Supply and Water Scarcity

Download or read book Water Supply and Water Scarcity written by Vasileios A. Tzanakakis and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-11-04 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book includes selected papers that has been published in the Water journal Special Issue (SI) on Water Supply and Water Scarcity. Moreover, an overview of the SI is included. The papers selected for publication in the SI include review and research papers on water history, on water management issues under water scarcity regimes, on rainwater harvesting, on water quality and degradation, and on climatic variability impacts on water resources. Overall, the issue identify and highlight the main challenges in water sector, and particularly in management and protection of water resources and in use of alternative (non-conventional) water resources, especially in areas with demographic change and climate vulnerability in order to achieve sustainable and secure water supply. Furthermore, general guidelines and possible solutions for an improved and sophisticated water management system are proposed and discussed, such as the adoption of advanced technological solutions and practices that improve water-use efficiency and the use of alternative water resources, to address the growing environmental and health issues and to reduce the emerging conflicts among water users.
