Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It's so easy to get bogged down in this world -- to feel the weight of ugliness, hate, destruction, emptiness, and depression pushing down on us. If you're not careful, life will try its best to crush you. But something gentle exists outside of it, under the coarse fabric of things. There is a soft voice waiting for you to listen and hear. And it's so easy to drown it out, to overlook it, to pretend it doesn't exist, or simply not hear it through the noise.Jesus is the whisper in the chaos. Our contributors see Him in the peripheral, call out to Him from the dark places and wait for His voice, feel the peace in His gentle light, or recognize the weight of His absence in an absurd, seemingly meaningless world. In this issue, you'll find laughter and despair, the everyday moments and the sublime, brokenness and healing, pain and joy, and in everything, bubbling underneath the surface, Jesus -- waiting, whispering, and placing His finger on everything.

Download or read book God in the Flesh written by Don Everts and published by ReadHowYouWant.com. This book was released on 2009-10 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They were amazed at his teaching.''; ''They fell down before him.''; ''He touched her hand.''; ''they left their nets.''; Often when we read the New Testament accounts of Jesus' life, we focus on his teachings and stories. But Don Everts draws our attention to the seemingly insignificant ''stage directions'' of the Gospels that describe the activity surrounding him. ''It's significant,'' Everts writes, ''that in the Gospels we don't just have a bullet list of quotes from Jesus.'' We also have observations of what he did and how people responded to him. By examining these simple phrases and casual comments, Everts assembles a startlingly fresh portrait of who Jesus was and is. While no one has seen the invisible God, when we look at the life of Jesus, we discover what his early followers discovered - that Jesus is the very flesh of God. ''Many people find themselves put off by Christianity but haunted and compelled by the figure of Jesus. In God in the Flesh, Don Everts reminds us why.

Download or read book Though My Heart and Flesh May Fail written by Melissa Justice and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2019-12-26 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever received news that was so scary it left you speechless? Thinking I had bronchitis or pneumonia, I was not prepared to hear the words, "You are in heart failure." As a 31-year-old woman, wanting nothing more than to be a mother, I was left contemplating what my future would look like - if I had a future. My doctors said my greatest chance of survival would be a heart transplant. God was gently teaching me to trust Him despite how physically unbearable life became. Over time, I began feeling distant from God's love, especially preceding my first open-heart surgery. But each time I cried out to God and searched His scriptures, I was reminded that He cares deeply for all who suffer. My prayers began to change from a daily plea for healing to a surrender of my future to His will. After surrendering fully to God's will, I had a moment of overwhelming love from my heavenly Father in which I felt His arms reach down and hold me with unimaginable love and peace. I am eternally grateful for the lesson I was reminded of first-hand: MIRACLES DO STILL HAPPEN! Through the heart-felt sharing of my testimony and true-to-life evidence of God's healing hand, I pray that Though My Heart and Flesh May Fail will motivate readers to put their faith and future in the hands of their divine Healer.

Download or read book Salvation in the Flesh written by David Trementozzi and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-02-01 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: David Trementozzi contends that conservative-traditional Christianity has uncritically adopted an intellectualist (i.e., rationally-driven) view of faith in its understanding and practice of salvation. Throughout, he maintains that an intellectualist soteriology should be rejected because it prioritizes the rational over other behavioral and affective aspects of faith. An intellectualist rendering of salvation is incomplete because human experience is neither abstract nor gnostic--it is embodied and experientially relevant. An intellectualist soteriology simply cannot account for the dynamic and transforming possibilities of saving grace. Salvation in the Flesh offers an innovative perspective on the embodied nature of faith and the centrality of the Holy Spirit in the Christian doctrine of salvation. Drawing from the cognitive neurosciences and psychology, Trementozzi argues for a holistic awareness of cognition to better inform an embodied understanding of faith. In dialogue with the cognitive sciences, he appropriates Jonathan Edwards' theology of religious affections, early church practices, and pentecostal spirituality to highlight the soteriological significance of orthodoxy, orthopraxy, and orthopathy for a renewal soteriology of embodiment. In doing so, Trementozzi offers a vision of salvation that more thoroughly accounts for the multifarious ways God's saving grace interacts with human flesh and blood.
Download or read book Renovation of the Heart written by Dallas Willard and published by Tyndale House. This book was released on 2014-02-27 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As Christians, we know that we are new creations in Jesus. So we try to act differently, hoping this will make us more like Him. But changing our outward behavior doesn’t change our hearts. Only by God’s grace can we be transformed internally. Renovation of the Heart lays a biblical foundation for understanding what best-selling author Dallas Willard calls the “transformation of the spirit”—a divine process that “brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God.” This fresh approach to spiritual growth explains the biblical reasons why Christians need to undergo change in six aspects of life: thought, feeling, will, body, social context, and soul. Willard also outlines a general pattern of transformation in each area, not as a sterile formula but as a practical process that you can follow without the guilt or perfectionism so many Christians wrestle with. Don’t settle for complacency. Accept the challenge Renovation of the Heart offers to become an intentional apprentice of Jesus Christ, changing daily as you walk with Him.
