Book The Art of Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities

Download or read book The Art of Turning Obstacles Into Opportunities written by Peter Clark and published by . This book was released on 2016-09-04 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you dread dealing with any type of obstacle? Most of us do. We want life to be easy, but it seems that obstacles continuously thwart our efforts and limit the quality of our lives. The good news is that obstacles don't have to be the vile thing you think they are.Obstacles can actually be a blessing! Obstacles are often the path to great success and achievement. The obstacle isn't really a roadblock. It's an opportunity. If there's one characteristic found in all successful people, it's the ability to persevere and overcome obstacles. Those that struggle with life invariably give up far too quickly. Overcoming obstacles requires three things:1. It begins with the ability to perceive the situation accurately. This requires having a true understanding of how the world works. It's important to be free of emotional distress and to maintain your composure. Excess emotion clouds perception and can inhibit your ability to take action.2. Act intelligently. With accurate perception, you have the ability to take appropriate action. All of us take actions every day. Even lying on the couch and watching television is a course of action. However, few of us take intelligent action. Intelligent action consists of actions that are most likely to lead to success.3. Accept and persevere. Creating opportunities from obstacles requires will. When placed in a situation with multiple obstacles and little hope, do you continue or do you give up? The ability to accept the situation makes intelligent action easier. Lacking acceptance, you'll face too much emotional struggle to perceive accurately or to act intelligently. This guide focuses on the details and enhancement of these three important traits. Enjoy!

Book The Obstacle Is the Way

Download or read book The Obstacle Is the Way written by Ryan Holiday and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: #1 Wall Street Journal Bestseller The Obstacle is the Way has become a cult classic, beloved by men and women around the world who apply its wisdom to become more successful at whatever they do. Its many fans include a former governor and movie star (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a hip hop icon (LL Cool J), an Irish tennis pro (James McGee), an NBC sportscaster (Michele Tafoya), and the coaches and players of winning teams like the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Cubs, and University of Texas men’s basketball team. The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” Ryan Holiday shows us how some of the most successful people in history—from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart to Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs—have applied stoicism to overcome difficult or even impossible situations. Their embrace of these principles ultimately mattered more than their natural intelligence, talents, or luck. If you’re feeling frustrated, demoralized, or stuck in a rut, this book can help you turn your problems into your biggest advantages. And along the way it will inspire you with dozens of true stories of the greats from every age and era.

Book Assessing and Managing the Ecological Impacts of Paved Roads

Download or read book Assessing and Managing the Ecological Impacts of Paved Roads written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2006-01-22 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All phases of road developmentâ€"from construction and use by vehicles to maintenanceâ€"affect physical and chemical soil conditions, water flow, and air and water quality, as well as plants and animals. Roads and traffic can alter wildlife habitat, cause vehicle-related mortality, impede animal migration, and disperse nonnative pest species of plants and animals. Integrating environmental considerations into all phases of transportation is an important, evolving process. The increasing awareness of environmental issues has made road development more complex and controversial. Over the past two decades, the Federal Highway Administration and state transportation agencies have increasingly recognized the importance of the effects of transportation on the natural environment. This report provides guidance on ways to reconcile the different goals of road development and environmental conservation. It identifies the ecological effects of roads that can be evaluated in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of roads and offers several recommendations to help better understand and manage ecological impacts of paved roads.

Book Clearing Obstacles to Work A Wise Giver s Guide to Fostering Self Reliance

Download or read book Clearing Obstacles to Work A Wise Giver s Guide to Fostering Self Reliance written by David Bass and published by The Philanthropy Roundtable. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cracks are becoming visible in American work habits. Whole subpopulations now have weak attachments to self-supporting labor. This worsens poverty and economic mobility. It also damages well-being in subtler ways—because work plays a vital role in building social connections, and boosting self-respect and happiness. Any sensible effort to improve American prosperity today must begin by bolstering work. Alas, government agencies have a very checkered history when it comes to helping those who have struggled in the workforce develop the capacities to do better in the future. Statistically, most government job-training programs are quite unimpressive. There are, however, many charitable programs that have demonstrated real success at leading unskilled persons, single mothers, inexperienced minorities, released prisoners, former addicts, and other at-risk populations into lasting, transformative employment. This book was written to help donors find those successful models and strategies. Because when it comes to curing deprivation, softening inequality, improving life satisfaction, and strengthening society, work works.
