Book excerpt: The authors present preliminary results of a search for several exclusive charmless hadronic B decays from electron-positron annihilation data collected by the BaBar detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. These include three-body decay modes with final states h"h{sup minus-plus}h" and h"h{sup minus-plus}pi°, and quasi-two-body decay modes with final states X°h and X°K{sub S}°, where h = pi or K and X° = eta-prime or omega. They find beta(B° --> rho{sup minus-plus}pi{sup "}) = (49"135{sup +6}) x 10−6 and beta(B --> eta-prime-K+) = (62"18{+-}8) x 10−6 and present upper limits for right other decays.

Book Two and Three Body Charmless B Decays at BaBar

Download or read book Two and Three Body Charmless B Decays at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 6 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We report recent measurements of rare charmless B decays performed by BaBar. The results are based on the final BaBar dataset of 424 fb−1 collected at the PEP-II B-factory based at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The study of rare B decays is a key ingredient to meet two of the main goals of the B-factories: assessing the validity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) picture of CP-violation by precisely measuring the elements of the Unitarity Triangle (UT), and searching for hints of New Physics (NP), or otherwise constraining NP scenarios, in processes which are suppressed in the Standard Model (SM). In loop processes, in particular, NP at some higher energy scale may manifest itself in the low energy effective theory as new couplings, such as those introduced by new very massive virtual particles in the loop. In NP searches hadronic uncertainties can play a major role, expecially for branching fraction measurements. Many theoretical uncertainties cancel in ratios of amplitudes, and most NP probes are therefore of this kind. In the following sections we report recent measurements, performed by the BaBar Collaboration, that are relevant to NP searches in charmless hadronic B decays.

Download or read book OBSERVATION OF EXCLUSIVE TWO BODY B DECAYS TO KAONS AND PIONS written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied two-body charmless hadronic decays of B mesons into the final states??, K?, and KK. Using 3.3 million B{bar B} pairs collected with the CLEO-II detector, we have made the first observation of the decays B° → K?−, B+ → K°?+, and the sum of B+ →?+?° and B+ → K+?° decays (an average over charge-conjugate states is always implied). We place upper limits on branching fractions for the remaining decay modes.

  • Pages : 654 pages

Download or read book Kaon Physics written by Jonathan L. Rosner and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2001-01-15 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1947, the first of what have come to be known as "strange particles" were detected. As the number and variety of these particles proliferated, physicists began to try to make sense of them. Some seemed to have masses about 900 times that of the electron, and existed in both charged and neutral varieties. These particles are now called kaons (or K mesons), and they have become the subject of some of the most exciting research in particle physics. Kaon Physics at the Turn of the Millennium presents cutting-edge papers by leading theorists and experimentalists that synthesize the current state of the field and suggest promising new directions for the future study of kaons. Topics covered include the history of kaon physics, direct CP violation in kaon decays, time reversal violation, CPT studies, theoretical aspects of kaon physics, rare kaon decays, hyperon physics, charm: CP violation and mixing, the physics of B mesons, and future opportunities for kaon physics in the twenty-first century.

Book The Physics of the B Factories

Download or read book The Physics of the B Factories written by Adrian Bevan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-03-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive work thoroughly introduces and reviews the set of results from Belle and BaBar - after more than two decades of independent and complementary work - all the way from the detectors and the analysis tools used, up to the physics results, and the interpretation of these results. The world’s two giant B Factory collaborations, Belle at KEK and BaBar at SLAC, have successfully completed their main mission to discover and quantify CP violation in the decays of B mesons. CP violation is a necessary requirement to distinguish unambiguously between matter and antimatter. The shared primary objective of the two B Factory experiments was to determine the shape of the so-called unitarity triangle, an abstract triangle representing interactions of quarks, the elementary constituents of matter. The area of the triangle is a measure of the amount of CP violation associated with the weak force. Many other measurements have been performed by the B Factories and are also discussed in this work.

Book Heavy Flavours

Download or read book Heavy Flavours written by A J Buras and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1992-11-26 with total page 803 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of review articles on the most outstanding topics in heavy flavour physics. All the authors have made significant contributions to this field. The book reviews in detail the theoretical structure of heavy flavour physics within the Standard Model and its confrontation with existing experimental data. The physics of the top quark and of the Higgs play an important role in this volume. Beginning with radiative electroweak corrections and their impressive tests at LEP and hadron colliders, the book summarizes the present status of quark mixing, CP violation and rare decays. The dynamics of exclusive D- and B-meson decays, the τ-lepton physics and the newly discovered heavy quark symmetries are discussed in detail. The impact of strong interactions on weak decays is clearly visible in many articles. The physics of heavy flavours at LEP, HERA and hadron colliders constitutes an important part of the book. Another significant topic is the possible role of heavy flavours in the spontaneous symmetry breaking of gauge symmetries. Finally the most recent advances in lattice calculations of the properties of heavy flavours and the lattice studies of the dynamics of heavy flavours are presented.
