Book New Aspects of High Energy Proton Proton Collisions

Download or read book New Aspects of High Energy Proton Proton Collisions written by A. Ali and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Articles focus on the planned European proton-proton collider, and concentrate on physics issues, rather than the more technical concerns addressed in the three previous workshops. The use of energies much higher than those of the American Superconducting Super Collider is featured. Topics include reviews of current projects, hadron collisions, lep

Book High Transverse Momentum Phenomena Involving pi and Eta Mesons

Download or read book High Transverse Momentum Phenomena Involving pi and Eta Mesons written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inclusive production of $pi$ and eta mesons at theta/sub cm/ = 90$sup 0$ was measured for proton-proton collisions at five center-of-mass energies between 23.5 and 62.4 GeV. The momentum correlation of charged particles emitted together with a large transverse momentum $pi$ was also studied using two magnetic spectrometers each centered at theta/sub cm/ = 90$sup 0$. Book Transverse Momentum Structures of Charged Particle Final States from Proton proton Collisions with a Charged Trigger Particle of Large Transverse Momentum

Download or read book Transverse Momentum Structures of Charged Particle Final States from Proton proton Collisions with a Charged Trigger Particle of Large Transverse Momentum written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A sample of proton-proton collisions at .sqrt. s = 63 GeV with a (trigger) charged particle of transverse momentum in the range 4 to 12 GeV/c and vertical bar rapidity vertical bar 1 is studied. The events were obtained with the Axial Field Spectrometer at the CERN ISR (experiment R807). Preliminary results are reported from an investigation of the distribution of the transverse momentum vectors of the observed charged particles in the central rapidity region associated with the trigger particle. It is found that the pattern of transverse momentum vectors of the observed charged particles in the central rapidity region associated with the trigger particle. It is found that the pattern of transverse momentum vectors of the charged particles observed in a given event is strongly dependent on the amount of transverse energy which is carried by the associated charged particles observed in the event. When the transverse energy is large ( 10 GeV/c within vertical bar rapidity vertical bar

Book Measurement of Prompt J psi Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s

Download or read book Measurement of Prompt J psi Pair Production in Pp Collisions at sqrt s written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Production of prompt J/[psi] meson pairs in proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV is measured with the CMS experiment at the LHC in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 4.7 fb-1. The two J/[psi] mesons are fully reconstructed via their decays into [mu] + [mu] - pairs. This observation provides for the first time access to the high-transverse-momentum region of J/[psi] pair production where model predictions are not yet established. The total and differential cross sections are measured in a phase space defined by the individual J/[psi] transverse momentum (p T J/[psi] ) and rapidity (

Book An Assessment of U S Based Electron Ion Collider Science

Download or read book An Assessment of U S Based Electron Ion Collider Science written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-10-13 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding of protons and neutrons, or "nucleons"â€"the building blocks of atomic nucleiâ€"has advanced dramatically, both theoretically and experimentally, in the past half century. A central goal of modern nuclear physics is to understand the structure of the proton and neutron directly from the dynamics of their quarks and gluons governed by the theory of their interactions, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), and how nuclear interactions between protons and neutrons emerge from these dynamics. With deeper understanding of the quark-gluon structure of matter, scientists are poised to reach a deeper picture of these building blocks, and atomic nuclei themselves, as collective many-body systems with new emergent behavior. The development of a U.S. domestic electron-ion collider (EIC) facility has the potential to answer questions that are central to completing an understanding of atoms and integral to the agenda of nuclear physics today. This study assesses the merits and significance of the science that could be addressed by an EIC, and its importance to nuclear physics in particular and to the physical sciences in general. It evaluates the significance of the science that would be enabled by the construction of an EIC, its benefits to U.S. leadership in nuclear physics, and the benefits to other fields of science of a U.S.-based EIC.

Book The Rise of the Standard Model

Download or read book The Rise of the Standard Model written by Lillian Hoddeson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-11-13 with total page 746 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Editors Laurie Brown, Max Dresden, Lillian Hoddeson and Michael Riordan have brought together a distinguished group of elementary particle physicists and historians of science to explore the recent history of particle physics. Based on a conference held at Stanford University, this is the third volume of a series recounting the history of particle physics and offers the most up-to-date account of the rise of the Standard Model, which explains the microstructure of the world in terms of quarks and leptons and their interactions. Major contributors include Steven Weinberg, Murray Gell-Mann, Michael Redhead, Silvan Schweber, Leon Lederman and John Heilbron. The wide-ranging articles explore the detailed scientific experiments, the institutional settings in which they took place, and the ways in which the many details of the puzzle fit together to account for the Standard Model.
