Book Observation of B0 s Anti B0 s Oscillations

Download or read book Observation of B0 s Anti B0 s Oscillations written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 9 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors report the observation of B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations from a time-dependent measurement of the B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub s}. Using a data sample of 1 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, they find signals of 5600 fully reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, 3100 partially reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays, and 61,500 partially reconstructed semileptonic B{sub s} decays. They measure the probability as a function of proper decay time that the B{sub s} decays with the same, or opposite, flavor as the flavor at production, and they find a signal for B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a comparable signal is 8 x 10−8, which exceeds 5[sigma] significance. They measure [Delta]m{sub s} = 17.77 ± 0.10(stat) ± 0.07(syst) ps−1 and extract.

Book A Measurement of B0 Anti B0 Oscillations Using Fully reconstructed Hadronic B Decays at BaBar

Download or read book A Measurement of B0 Anti B0 Oscillations Using Fully reconstructed Hadronic B Decays at BaBar written by Benjamin Paul Brau and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flavor oscillations of neutral B mesons have been studied with e+e- annihilation data collected at center of mass energies near the [gamma](4S) at the PEP-II asymmetric collider with the BABAR detector. One B0 is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay to a flavor eigenstate. The flavor of the other B in the event is determined using an inclusive tagging algorithm which exploits the correlations between the flavor of the b quark and the charges of its decay products. By fitting the decay-time distribution of the observed mixed and unmixed final states, the oscillation frequency, [Delta]md, is determined to be 0.516 +/- 0.016 (stat.) +/- 0.010 (syst.) ps-l.

Download or read book Measurement of the B0 s Anti B0 s Oscillation Frequency written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors present the first measurement of the B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub s}. They use 1 fb−1 of data from p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The sample contains signals of 3600 fully reconstructed hadronic B{sub s} decays and 37,000 partially reconstructed semileptonic B{sub s} decays. They measure the probability as a function of proper decay time that the B{sub s} decays with the same, or opposite, flavor as the flavor at production and they find a signal consistent with B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations. The probability that random fluctuations could produce a comparable signal is 0.2%. Under the hypothesis that the signal is due to B{sub s}°-{bar B}{sub s}° oscillations, they measure [Delta]m{sub s} = 17.31{sub -0.18}{sup +0.33}(stat.) ± 0.07(syst.) ps−1 and determine.

Book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays

Download or read book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays written by Sabato Leo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on the final measurement of the flavor-mixing phase in decays of strange-bottom mesons (B_s) into J/psi and phi mesons performed in high-energy proton-antiproton collisions recorded by the Collider Experiment at Fermilab. Interference occurs between direct decays and decays following virtual particle-antiparticle transitions (B_s-antiB_s). The phase difference between transition amplitudes (“mixing phase”) is observable and extremely sensitive to contributions from non-standard-model particles or interactions that may be very hard to detect otherwise – a fact that makes the precise measurement of the B_s mixing phase one of the most important goals of particle physics. The results presented include a precise determination of the mixing phase and a suite of other important supplementary results. All measurements are among the most precise available from a single experiment and provide significantly improved constraints on the phenomenology of new particles and interactions.

Book Measurement of the Bs Anti Bs Oscillation Frequency Using Semileptonic Decays

Download or read book Measurement of the Bs Anti Bs Oscillation Frequency Using Semileptonic Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports a time dependent measurement of the B°{sub s}-{bar B}°{sub s} oscillation frequency [Delta]m{sub s} using semileptonic decays B°{sub s} → D−{sub s}l+X. We use a data sample of 1 fb−1 of p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider to reconstruct ≈ 61, 500 semileptonic B°{sub s} decays. This analysis of B°{sub s}-{bar B}°{sub s} mixing has a sensitivity of 19.4 ps−1 and shows an evidence of B°{sub s} oscillations at [Delta]m{sub s} ≈17.75 ps−1 with an amplitude significance of ≈2. In combination with the analyses of ≈ 8,700 hadronic B°{sub s} decays at CDF, we have made the first direct observation of time-dependent B°{sub s}-{bar B}°{sub s} flavor oscillations measuring [Delta]m{sub s} = 17.77 {sup +0.09}{sub -0.10} (stat) ± 0.07 (syst) ps−1. The obtained value of [Delta]m{sub s} agrees with the Standard Model expectation. When combined with the world average values for [Delta]m{sub d}, m{sub {bar B}0} and m{sub {bar B}0s}, along with other theoretical input, this result yields the ratio of CKM matrix elements.

This book was released on 2007 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The search for flavor oscillations in the neutral Bs - B meson system constitutes a flagship analysis of the Tevatron proton-anti-proton collider physics program and an important probe for effects due to new physics beyond the Standard Model of particles and interactions. In particular, the precise measurement of a process such as Boscillations sets a strong constraint on the parameters of quark-flavor mixing in the Standard Model. This dissertation reports the analysis which, for the first time, observed B- Bs oscillations, using data collected with the CDF detector. The sub-percent precision of the measurement is also noteworthy. The data sample used for this analysis includes fully and partially reconstructed Bdecays: ... The focus of this thesis is the algorithm of same-side-kaon tagging which provides _-0 a large fraction of the flavor-tagging power available to this analysis of B- B8 oscillations. Flavor tagging consists in assessing whether a B, meson is creates as a B_--0 or a B, state, and constitutes an important ingredient in the analysis presented in this document. The algorithm which is here described combines particle identification information and kinematic characteristics of the Bevent in an artificial neural network to provide improved tagging power E'2 of about 4.0 - 4.8%, depending on the data sample to which the algorithm is applied. The search for B1 oscillations is performed using an amplitude method based on a frequency scanning procedure. Applying a neural network-based combination of lepton, kaon and jet charge opposite-side tagging algorithms, with a total tagging power of ED2 = 1.8%, and the same-side-kaon tagging algorithm to a data sample of 1 fb-1, a signal of B- B_ oscillations with a significance greater than 5 standard deviations is found ...

This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A search for B[sub s][sup 0]-[bar B][sub s][sup 0] oscillations is performed using a sample of 400,000 hadronic Z[sup 0] decays collected by the SLD experiment. The B[sub s][sup 0] candidates are reconstructed in the B[sub s][sup 0][yields] D[sub s][sup -] X channel with D[sub s][sup -][yields][phi][pi][sup -], K*[sup 0] K[sup -]. The B[sub s][sup 0] production flavor is determined using the large forward-backward asymmetry of polarized Z[sup 0][yields] b[bar b] decays and charge information in the hemisphere opposite that of the B[sub s][sup 0] candidate. The decay flavor is tagged by the charge of the D[sub s][sup[+-]]. From a sample of 361 candidates with an average B[sub s][sup 0] purity of 40%, we exclude the following values of the oscillation frequency:[Delta]m[sub s]

Book Mechanics of Flow Induced Vibration

Download or read book Mechanics of Flow Induced Vibration written by Rajeev Jaiman and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-06-10 with total page 1028 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses various passive and active techniques for controlling unsteady flow dynamics and associated coupled mechanics of fluid-structure interaction. Coupled multiphysics and multidomain simulations are emerging and challenging research areas, which have received significant attention during the past decade. One of the most common multiphysics and multidomain problems is fluid-structure interaction (FSI), i.e., the study of coupled physical systems involving fluid and a structure that have a mechanical influence on each other. Regardless of the application area, the investigation toward modeling of fluid-structure interaction and the underlying mechanisms in dealing with coupled fluid-structure instability with real-world applications remains a challenge to scientists and engineers. This book is designed for students and researchers who seek knowledge of computational modeling and control strategies for fluid-structure interaction. Specifically, this book provides a comprehensive review of the underlying unsteady physics and coupled mechanical aspects of the fluid-structure interaction of freely vibrating bluff bodies, the self-induced flapping of thin flexible structures, and aeroelasticity of shell structures. Understanding flow-induced loads and vibrations can lead to safer and cost-effective structures, especially for light and high-aspect ratio structures with increased flexibility and harsh environmental conditions. Using the body-fitted and moving mesh formulations, the physical insights associated with structure-to-fluid mass ratios, Reynolds number, nonlinear structural deformation, proximity interference, near-wall contacts, free-surface, and other interacting physical fields are covered in this book. In conjunction with the control techniques, data-driven model reduction approaches based on subspace projection and deep neural calculus are covered for low-dimensional modeling of unsteady fluid-structure interaction.
