Book Observation of a Peaking Structure in the J psi phi Mass Spectrum from B pm to J psi phi K pm Decays

Download or read book Observation of a Peaking Structure in the J psi phi Mass Spectrum from B pm to J psi phi K pm Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A peaking structure in the J/psi phi mass spectrum near threshold is observed in B(+/- ) to J/psi phi K(+/- ) decays, produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample, selected on the basis of the dimuon decay mode of the J/psi, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 inverse femtobarns. Fitting the structure to an S-wave relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape above a three-body phase-space nonresonant component gives a signal statistical significance exceeding five standard deviations. The fitted mass and width values are m = 4148.0 +- 2.4 (stat.) +- 6.3 (syst.) MeV and Gamma = 28 +15 -11 (stat.) +- 19 (syst.) MeV, respectively. Evidence for an additional peaking structure at higher J/psi phi mass is also reported.

Book Observation of a Near Threshold Enhancement in the P anti p Mass Spectrum from Radiative J psi Gamma p anti p Decays

Download or read book Observation of a Near Threshold Enhancement in the P anti p Mass Spectrum from Radiative J psi Gamma p anti p Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We observe a narrow enhancement near 2m[sub p] in the invariant mass spectrum of p[bar p] pairs from radiative J/[psi][yields][gamma]p[bar p] decays. No similar structure is seen in J/[psi][yields][pi][sup 0] p[bar p] decays. The results are based on an analysis of a 58 million event sample of J/[psi] decays accumulated with the BESII detector at the Beijing electron-positron collider. The enhancement can be fit with either an S- or P-wave Breit Wigner resonance function. In the case of the S-wave fit, the peak mass is below 2m[sup p] at M= 1859[sub -10][sup+3] (stat)[sub -25][sup+5] (sys) MeV/c[sup 2] and the total width is[Lambda]

Book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays

Download or read book CP Violation in B s 0 J psi phi Decays written by Sabato Leo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-07-24 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports on the final measurement of the flavor-mixing phase in decays of strange-bottom mesons (B_s) into J/psi and phi mesons performed in high-energy proton-antiproton collisions recorded by the Collider Experiment at Fermilab. Interference occurs between direct decays and decays following virtual particle-antiparticle transitions (B_s-antiB_s). The phase difference between transition amplitudes (“mixing phase”) is observable and extremely sensitive to contributions from non-standard-model particles or interactions that may be very hard to detect otherwise – a fact that makes the precise measurement of the B_s mixing phase one of the most important goals of particle physics. The results presented include a precise determination of the mixing phase and a suite of other important supplementary results. All measurements are among the most precise available from a single experiment and provide significantly improved constraints on the phenomenology of new particles and interactions.

Book Analysis of the P P bar Mass Spectrum in J Psi

Download or read book Analysis of the P P bar Mass Spectrum in J Psi written by A. W. Thomas and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The near-threshold enhancement in the p p-bar invariant mass spectrum of the reaction J/Psi --> gamma p p-bar, observed in an experiment by the BES Collaboration, is analysed. It is shown, within the Watson-Migdal approach to final state interactions, that the mass dependence of the p p-bar spectrum close to the threshold can be reproduced by the S-wave p p-bar interaction of the Jülich N N-bar model in the isospin I=1 state. Difficulties in the consistent interpretation of the p invariant mass spectrum of the reaction J/Psi --> pi^0 p p-bar, where there are no obvious signs for a final state interaction, are discussed.

Book Measurement of the CP Violating Phase Beta s in B s J psi Phi Decays

Download or read book Measurement of the CP Violating Phase Beta s in B s J psi Phi Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The CP violating phase [beta] j/[Psi][Phi]s is measured in decays of B0s → J/[Psi][Phi]. This measurement uses 5.2 fb-1 of data collected in √s = 1.96 TeV p$\bar{p}$ collisions at the Fermilab Tevatron with the CDF Run-II detector. CP violation in the Bs0-$\bar{B}$s0 system is predicted to be very small in the Standard Model. However, several theories beyond the Standard Model allow enhancements to this quantity by heavier, New Physics particles entering second order weak mixing box diagrams. Previous measurements have hinted at a deviation from the Standard Model expectation value for [beta]sJ/[Psi][Phi] with a significance of approximately 2[sigma]. The measurement described in this thesis uses the highest statistics sample available to date in the Bs0 → J/[Psi][Phi] decay channel, where J/[Psi] → [mu]+[mu]- and [Phi] → K+K-. Furthermore, it contains several improvements over previous analyses, such as enhanced signal selection, fully calibrated particle ID and flavour tagging, and the inclusion of an additional decay component in the likelihood function. The added decay component considers S-wave states of KK pairs in the Bs0 → J/[Psi] K+K- channel. The results are presented as 2-dimensional frequentist confidence regions for [beta]sJ/[Psi][Phi] and [Delta][Gamma] (the width difference between the Bs0 mass eigenstates), and as a confidence interval for [beta]sJ/[Psi][Phi] of [0.02,0.52] U [1.08, 1.55] at the 68% confidence level. The measurement of the CP violating phase obtained in this thesis is complemented by the world's most precise measurement of the lifetime [tau]s = 1.53 ± 0.025 (stat.) ± 0.012 (syst.) ps and decay width difference [Delta][Gamma] = 0.075 ± 0.035 (stat.) ± 0.01 (syst.) ps-1 of the Bs0 meson, with the assumption of no CP violation.

Book Measurement of the Dipion Mass Spectrum in X 3872 J psi Pi Pi Decays

Download or read book Measurement of the Dipion Mass Spectrum in X 3872 J psi Pi Pi Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors measure the dipion mass spectrum in X(3872) → J/???− decays using 360 pb−1 of {bar p}p collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector. The spectrum is fit with predictions for odd C-parity (3S1, 1P1, and 3D{sub J}) charmonia decaying to J/??+?−, as well as event C-parity states in which the pions are from?° decay. The latter case also encompasses exotic interpretations, such as a D°{bar D}*° molecule. Only the 3S1 and J/?? hypotheses are compatible with the data. Since 3S1 is untenable on other grounds, decay via J/?? is favored, which implies C = +1 for the X(3872). Models for different J/?-? angular momenta L are considered. Flexibility in the models, especially the introduction of?-? interference, enable good descriptions of the data for both L = 0 and 1.

Book Measurement of the Lifetime Difference and Cp violating Phase in B s J psi Phi Decays

Download or read book Measurement of the Lifetime Difference and Cp violating Phase in B s J psi Phi Decays written by and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decades the current theoretical description, the Standard Model of elementary particle physics, was solidified by many measurements as the basic theory describing fundamental particles and their interactions. It is extremely successful in explaining the high-precision data collected by experiments so far. The Standard Model includes several intrinsic parameters which have to be measured in experiments. Independent analyses of different physical processes can constrain those parameters. By combining those measurements physicists might be sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. If they are inconsistent it allows to get a hint on the theory that might supersede the Standard Model. The goal of the analysis presented in this thesis is to measure some of these parameters in the B{sub s} meson system. The B{sub s} meson, consisting of an anti-b and s quark, is not a pure mass eigenstate, thus allowing a B{sub s} meson to oscillate into its antiparticle via weak interacting processes. This is a general feature of any neutral meson. The history of meson mixing measurements is more then 50 years old. It was first observed in the kaon system. The oscillation in the B{sub d} system was measured very precisely by the B factories, whereas the oscillation frequency of the B{sub s} was measured with more than 5[sigma] significance last year by CDF and first evidence for mixing in the D0 system was presented only this year.

Book Study of the Pi pi J psi Mass Spectrum Via Initial State Radiation at BaBar

Download or read book Study of the Pi pi J psi Mass Spectrum Via Initial State Radiation at BaBar written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present an update of the study of the Y(4260) resonance, produced in the process ee− →?{sub ISR}?+?− J/? using initial-state radiation events at the PEP-II e+e− storage rings. This study is based on 454 fb−1 of data recorded with the BABAR detector at a center-of-mass energy in the?(4S) resonance region. From a fit with a single non-relativistic Breit-Wigner shape we obtain updated parameters for the Y(4260) resonance which are m{sub Y} = 4252 ± 6−3{sup +2} MeV/c2 and?{sub Y} = 105 ± 18−6{sup +4} MeV/c2; we also measure?(?+?− J/?)?{sub e{sup +}e−} = (7.5 ± 0.9 ± 0.8) eV. We cannot confirm the recent BELLE observation of a broad structure around 4.05GeV/c2 in this decay mode.
