Book excerpt: Jesus is very candid about what He calls us to do, whether it's prayer, love, confession, judgment, or even just to trust in Him. But often the last thing we do is the first thing He requires, which is to simply obey. Obey is a candid look at the way Jesus calls us to live through His words and commands. It is a reflection of one follower's journey, beginning on a mission in poor, rural South Africa, to fully appreciate the power of obedience to Jesus. What he found was that Jesus never gave unclear, ambiguous instructions for life-He was very straightforward. While His commands are not always easy, they are life-changing for those who choose to listen, pray, and act on them. Obey provides a challenging, but inspirational, starting point to achieving the power of the obedient life.

Book The Jesus You Really Didn t Know

Download or read book The Jesus You Really Didn t Know written by Andy Angel and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2019-09-09 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem with too much Christianity today is that we replace the person of Jesus with a doctrine of grace. Living in denial of Jesus’ teaching on judgment and holiness, too many Christians take refuge from the sayings of Jesus in doctrines of forgiveness that they hope will bolster up their sense of self-worth before God. Andy Angel tackles this dysfunctional spirituality head-on, opening up the journey of learning and love into which the living Lord Jesus invites us all. Unpacking the Gospel of Matthew, he encourages us to rediscover the teaching ministry of Jesus in our own lives, and in doing so, to recover the riches and freshness of the gospel message and to rediscover the depths of love Jesus has for each one of us.

Book The Duty to Obey the Law

  • Author : William Atkins Edmundson
  • Publisher : Rowman & Littlefield
  • Release : 1999
  • ISBN : 9780847692552

Download or read book The Duty to Obey the Law written by William Atkins Edmundson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 1999 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The question, 'Why should I obey the law?' introduces a contemporary puzzle that is as old as philosophy itself. The puzzle is especially troublesome if we think of cases in which breaking the law is not otherwise wrongful, and in which the chances of getting caught are negligible. Philosophers from Socrates to H.L.A. Hart have struggled to give reasoned support to the idea that we do have a general moral duty to obey the law but, more recently, the greater number of learned voices has expressed doubt that there is any such duty, at least as traditionally conceived. The thought that there is no such duty poses a challenge to our ordinary understanding of political authority and its legitimacy. In what sense can political officials have a right to rule us if there is no duty to obey the laws they lay down? Some thinkers, concluding that a general duty to obey the law cannot be defended, have gone so far as to embrace philosophical anarchism, the view that the state is necessarily illegitimate. Others argue that the duty to obey the law can be grounded on the idea of consent, or on fairness, or on other ideas, such as community.

This book is all about HOW to forgive, how to dig into the Bible when you've been hurt and let the Word set you free. Forgiveness is how God does do-overs and it's how He makes things new and gives us a fresh start. You and I were made new because He forgave us. Book Why People Obey the Law

  • Release : 2021-06-08
  • ISBN : 1400828600

Download or read book Why People Obey the Law written by Tom R. Tyler and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People obey the law if they believe it's legitimate, not because they fear punishment--this is the startling conclusion of Tom Tyler's classic study. Tyler suggests that lawmakers and law enforcers would do much better to make legal systems worthy of respect than to try to instill fear of punishment. He finds that people obey law primarily because they believe in respecting legitimate authority. In his fascinating new afterword, Tyler brings his book up to date by reporting on new research into the relative importance of legal legitimacy and deterrence, and reflects on changes in his own thinking since his book was first published.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Obedience is defined as "compliance with an order, request, or law or submission to authority." It denotes an immediate response in action. This book is an endeavor to free people from the world's definitions of obedience and the bondage it holds us in by defining it through New Testament Grace. With the help of the Holy Spirit, in the pages of this book, we will understand that obedience is a gift of Grace; it is received and it bears fruit. We will also look at how much of what or how you're thinking is involved with New Testament obedience. This book provides many opportunities for your mind to be renewed or to stay where you're at in what you believe. Should you choose to allow the Holy Spirit to reveal what New Testament obedience is, you will never again be bound by guilt and condemnation when you are unable to immediately submit to or comply with anything you see in the Word of God.

Book Christians Too Must Obey

  • Author : Wayne Talbot
  • Publisher : Xlibris Corporation

Download or read book Christians Too Must Obey written by Wayne Talbot and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-01-05 with total page 615 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cursed is the one who will not uphold the words of this Torah, to perform them; and the entire people shall say, Amen (Deut. 27:26 TJB). King David wrote of Torah: The law of the Lord is perfect, converting my soul . . . the statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes (Ps. 19:78). He also wrote, I will delight myself in Your statutes, I will not forget Your word. . . . Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, for I delight in it . . . I will delight myself in Your commandments, which I love. . . . Your statutes have been my songs, in the house of my pilgrimage. . . . The earth, O Lord, is full of Your mercy, teach me Your statutes (Ps. 119) Centuries later, Martin Luther wrote: The law, when it is in its true sense, doth nothing else but reveal sin, engender wrath, accuse and terrify men, so that it bringeth them to the very brink of desperation. This is the proper use of the law, and here it hath an end, and it ought to go no further. Who was right? Was the Torah a gracious gift of a loving God, providing guidance for all generations and for all time, or was its giving a malicious act of God against the children of Israel? Did Jesus fulfill the law in such a way as to be not applicable to his followers even though his early followers, the apostles, and disciples did not believe so, continuing to be Torah observant and practicing Judaism in a Messianic context? When the Church of Rome condemned the Nazarenes as heretics, were they not also proclaiming the Jewish followers of Jesus as heretics, including the twelve apostles? This study attempts to answer those questions.

Book Trust and Obey Man s Part in Joining God s Family

Download or read book Trust and Obey Man s Part in Joining God s Family written by Ken Nissen and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2014-04 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can it be? How can salvation be God's gift of grace through faith and not by works; yet there are tons of Bible verses that connect eternal life directly to obedience and faithfulness? It was a great aid to me to see how both are given, and they do not conflict at all. I have written several papers to show this, and they have been helpful to a number of people. So I am enclosing these into a book form. Each paper shows in various ways how both the faith and obedience verses are valid and precious. "According to Scripture ... very good ... I agree with everything in it ... I don't think we will ever fully know God's part and our part, but this is the closest I have ever seen ... It is the best bridge I have seen ... I feel it is a unique and much needed contribution." (concerning Paradox). --Dr. Robertson McQuilkin, president emeritus of Columbia International University "Very thought-provoking! I've been aware of this Paradox, but having it presented like this highlights the grace-works elements in our faith which must be confronted. It also broadens one's appreciation for the Word." (concerning Paradox). --Dave Scovill, missionary, translator, missions counselor, administrator, and writer
