Book Decarbonising Urban Mobility with Land Use and Transport Policies The Case of Auckland New Zealand

Download or read book Decarbonising Urban Mobility with Land Use and Transport Policies The Case of Auckland New Zealand written by OECD and published by OECD Publishing. This book was released on 2020-06-16 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents an in-depth analysis of various policies that aim to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of urban transport. Decarbonising transport lies at the core of efforts to mitigate climate change and has close links to urban sustainability and housing affordability. The report identifies the drivers of rising emissions in the urban transport sector and offers pathways to reduce them through a combination of transport and land use policies.

Book excerpt: Australia's freight transport system now has the highest proportion of truck use of any developed country in the world, and with New Zealand, its cities are heavily dependent on cars. Back on Track considers the historic, economic and political issues that have led to this situation, and concludes that the emergence of such a strongly road-oriented system has not been in the national interest, on both economic and environmental grounds. It develops a detailed analysis of Australia's 'road transport deficit'. The authors suggest that rail is the neglected element in Australian and New Zealand transport systems and despite a history of 'policy paralysis', they offer a rail-based ten point plan that could see both countries' transport systems 'back on track'. Using new data on transportation trends from Australia and around the world, the book sets out a vision for the future of freight and inter-capital transport in Australia and New Zealand, and offers innovative transport strategies for each of the major cities in both countries.

Book Low Carbon Land Transport

Download or read book Low Carbon Land Transport written by Daniel Bongardt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-05 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Practical guide for transport policymakers and planners to achieve low-carbon land transport systems. Based on wide ranging research, it shows how policies can be bundled successfully and worked into urban transport decision-making and planning strategies. With case studies from developed and developing countries, it outlines measures for reducing emissions, tailoring these to specific circumstances. It also highlights how greenhouse gas savings are measured, as well as success factors for implementing policies and measures in complex decision-making processes. For students of sustainable transport, professional planners and decision makers, Low-Carbon Land Transport is an invaluable reference for all those looking to help transport networks flow in a sustainable direction.

Book Transport Policy and Planning

Download or read book Transport Policy and Planning written by Brian T. Bayliss and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 1992-01-01 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1983 the Economic Development Institute (EDI) made three important decisions concerning its transport activities. First, it planned to shift the emphasis in these activities from teaching project analysis to helping countries strengthen their capability for policy analysis, formulation, and implementation. Second, the EDI decided to incorporate policy analysis into its transport activities as much as possible. And, third, it would try to develop this new strategy by using microcomputers to simulate policy options and explore their complex interrelationships, as well as the relationship between each policy and its stated goals. Because these objectives encompassed national and local policy along with a wide range of policy alternatives, a comprehensive transport model seemed appropriate. The purpose of this document is to demonstrate how such a model can be used to evaluate policies, to compare it with other kinds of models, and to examine the use of models in the wider context of policy objectives and instruments. It considers the relationship between policy objectives and instruments; places transport models in the context of policymaking; and demonstrates the use of a comprehensive model for testing policy strategies. This manual is intended for the policymaker who has little modeling expertise; it is designed to make the policymaker aware of the possible use of models in decisionmaking.

Book Low Carbon Mobility Transitions

Download or read book Low Carbon Mobility Transitions written by Debbie Hopkins and published by Goodfellow Publishers Ltd. This book was released on 2016 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: * A thorough exploration of low carbon mobility transitions from a range of disciplinary and theoretical perspectives;* A broad view of low carbon transition across travel, transport, tourism and mobilities studies;* A critical exploration of the global, regional and local prospects for low carbon mobility transitions; * Illustrating examples of low carbon transition, from leading scholars researching in a wide range of geographic contexts.Arranged in three interrelated sections; People and Place, Structures in Transition, and Innovations for Low Carbon Mobility, Low Carbon Mobility Transitions presents nineteen theoretically-informed, empirically grounded chapters and case studies that comprehensively address the prospects for global, regional, and local systemic transitions to low carbon mobility. Bringing together the work of leading researchers from 26 universities, research centres and consultancies, spanning six continents, it critically explores the wide-ranging regional contexts in which a low carbon transition has been, is being, or can be achieved. In doing so, it highlights the place-specific, geopolitical and cultural sensitivities of low carbon transitions at national, regional and local (urban) scales. The overlapping roles of technological innovation, behaviour change and policy frameworks are critically examined in this book, providing timely insights into the opportunities for decarbonising the current systems of transport, in order to achieve the radical emissions reductions required to prevent lasting impacts of climate change.Highlights of the book include:* Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary insights into low carbon mobility transitions;* Research-informed chapters and case studies including a range of geographic contexts across the global North and South;* New perspectives on the intersecting and overlapping roles of technological innovation, behaviour change and policy frameworks;* Expert assessments of systemic low carbon transition.About the EditorsDebbie Hopkins is a Research Fellow at the Transport Studies Unit, School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford (UK), and a Junior Research Fellow in Geography at Mansfield College, Oxford. James Higham is a Professor in the Department of Tourism, University of Otago (New Zealand), Visiting Professor, University of Stavanger (Norway) and co-editor of the Journal of Sustainable Tourism.
